Soest, R.W.M. van; Weerdt, W.H. de.
Three species of the sponge genus Xestospongia (Haplosclerida) are newly recorded for the south Caribbean island of Curaçao, Xestospongia arenosa n. sp., X. caminata Pulitzer-Finali (1986) and X. deweerdtae Lehnert & Van Soest (1999). The species are described and compared with Xestospongia species already known from Curaçao and other Caribbean localities. A key to the Curaçao species of Xestospongia is provided.

Discovery of the subfamily Microtypinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) in Egypt, with the description of a new species Naturalis
Edmardsah, Y.A.; Gadallah, N.S.; Achterberg, K. van.
The subfamily Microtypinae Szépligeti, 1908 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is recorded for the first time for Egypt. The present study is based on specimens collected from Gebel Elba, Wadi Allaqi, St. Catherine, and Fayoum, as well as specimens deposited in various entomological collections in Egypt. Four species belonging to the genus Microtypus Ratzeburg, 1848 (M. algiricus Szépligeti, 1908; M. desertorum Shestakov, 1932; M. vanharteni van Achterberg, 2010 and M. aegypticus sp. n.) are reported for the first time from Egypt.

Zoantharia (Cnidaria: Anthozoa: Hexacorallia) of the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand: a species list based on past reports and new photographic records Naturalis
Reimer, J.D.; Wee, H.B.; Put, A.; Hoeksema, B.W..
This study is the first review of Zoantharia species in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand. In addition to past literature records, new field observations are added from previously unexamined countries and regions. In total 16 species are listed, 15 of which belong to suborder Brachycnemina, and only one to suborder Macrocnemina. Two species are undescribed. The lack of Macrocnemina species is not likely indicative of a low diversity of this suborder in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand, but instead of an absence of research below shallow subtidal depths. As the majority of the new records from this study were randomly compiled by researchers who are not experts of Zoantharia, specific surveys by experts are needed in these two marine regions....

The genus Telmatactis Gravier, 1916 (Actiniaria: Acontiaria: Isophelliidae) in Greece and the eastern Mediterranean Naturalis
Hartog, J.C. den.
Three species of the actinian genus Telmatactis Gravier, 1916, viz. T. forskalii (Ehrenberg, 1834), T. solidago (Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864) and T. cricoides (Duchassaing, 1850), occurring in Greece and the eastern Mediterranean, are described and discussed. Detailed data on the cnidom of the three species are provided. The characteristic penicilli of members of the genus Telmatactis are discussed. These penicilli were classified by Schmidt (1969, 1972) as p-rhabdoids (= penicilli) B1b, but it is here claimed that they actually belong in Schmidt's B2 group (provisionally as penicilli B2c). They correspond in general form and as to their distribution in the actinian polyp with the more usual penicilli B2a sensu Schmidt (1969), but unlike these, they...

Species of Schizotricha Allman, 1883 (Cnidaria, Hydrozoa) from recent antarctic expeditions with R.V. 'Polarstern', with the description of a new species Naturalis
Peña Cantero, A.L.; Svoboda, A.; Vervoort, W..
Five species of the genus Schizotricha Allman, 1883, one of which is new to science, have been studied. The material originates from the Weddell Sea region and from off Elephant Island and it was collected during several antarctic expeditions with the R.V. Tolarstern'. Each species is described and figured and its systematic position among allied species discussed. The type material of Schizotricha glacialis (Hickson & Gravely, 1907) and S. turqueti Billard, 1906 has been re-examined and is also described and figured.

New hydroptilid caddisfly species from southern Sulawesi (Insecta: Trichoptera: Hydroptilidae) Naturalis
Wells, A.; Huisman, J..
Six new species of micro-caddisfly (Trichoptera: Hydroptilidae) are described from southern Sulawesi in the genera Chrysotrichia (1 species), Niuginitrichia (1, being the first record of Niuginitrichia outside New Guinea), Hydroptila (1) and Orthotrichia (3). The faunal list for Sulawesi is increased further by addition of a second widespread SE Asian species of Oxyethira and three other species of Orthotrichia; and distributions of several species previously recorded from the island are extended. Thirty-one hydroptilid species in eight genera are now recorded for Sulawesi; a ninth genus is listed, but solely on the basis of larvae.

Invasion of the Indo-Pacific blenny Omobranchus punctatus (Perciformes: Blenniidae) on the Atlantic Coast of Central and South America Neotropical Ichthyology
Lasso-Alcalá,Oscar; Nunes,Jorge L. S.; Lasso,Carlos; Posada,Juan; Robertson,Ross; Piorski,Nivaldo M.; Tassell,James Van; Giarrizzo,Tommaso; Gondolo,Guilherme.
We examined 308 specimens of the Indo-Pacific blenniid Omobranchus punctatus deposited in four museum collections, and analyzed data on their collection locations to assess its invasion on the Atlantic coast of Central and South America. This species occurs in shoreline estuarine and marine habitats in the Indo-West Pacific. Previous sampling and recent records in the Tropical West Atlantic from 1930 to 2004 produced 20 records for: Panamá, Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad and Brazil. In this work, we provide data on 17 new records for the Gulfs of Venezuela and Paria in Venezuela, as well as four records for Maranhão and Pará states in NE Brazil. The temporal pattern of collections (1930 - 2009) and the proximity of most localities to ports and zones of ship...

Carvalho,Fernando R.; Langeani,Francisco.
Hyphessobrycon uaiso is described from the upper rio Paraná basin, rio Grande drainage, Minas Gerais State. The new species differs from its congeners by the short anal fin with 12-17 branched rays, and dorsal fin with ii,7-8 rays. Besides, it can be distinguished by the presence of i,5-6 pelvic fin rays, and by the coloration of the eyes (in life), slightly blue on the lower half and blackish on the upper half. New records of Hyphessobryconare recognized for the upper rio Paraná basin: H. eilyos Lima & Moreira, H. guarani Mahnert & Géry, and H. herbertaxelrodi Géry. The knowledge status about the ichthyofauna from the upper rio Paraná basin and comments about the type material of some species of Hyphessobrycon are briefly discussed.

Villamar, F.; Cruz, M..
The biogeogeographical distribution of Platasterias latiradiata Gray, considered a "living fossil" is extended to Ecuador, which has been founded close to the coast of Mexico and Central America. A map gives the new distribution, as well as a comparative study of the external morphology in a similar way as the reports and contributions of Caso, M. (1961, 1976). It is also included a table with measurements of several parts of the body, considered of taxonomic importance and pictures, showing predation on the gastropod, Olivella semistriata like one of its common food of preference.
