Prediction of the Chemical Composition and Fermentation Parameters of Pasture Silage by Near Infrered Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS) Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Ibáñez,Lorena; Alomar,Daniel.
The capability of near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) was evaluated to predict the content of total ash (TA), crude protein (CP), crude fiber (CF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and metabolizable energy (ME); as well as pH and ammonia nitrogen content (N-NH3), in pasture silage, with and without additives. Nine hundred and twenty dried and ground samples of pasture silage, with known chemical composition, were scanned over the visible and NIR region (400 to 2500 nm) at 2 nm intervals. Calibration equations were developed by modified partial least square regression models (MPLS) with different mathematical treatments and light scatter correction as standard normal variation and Detrend (SNV & D) of the spectra....

Dynamics of change in fermentation and fatty acid profiles in high moisture alfalfa silage during ensiling at different temperatures Ciência Rural
Liu,Qinhua; Dong,Zhihao; Shao,Tao.
ABSTRACT: The objective of present study was to investigate the dynamics of change in fermentation and fatty acid profiles in high moisture (DM=232g/kg FW) alfalfa silages during ensiling at 45°C, 30°C and 15°C. After ensiling for 1, 3, 7, 21, 39 and 65 days, silages was sampled and examined. Lactic fermentation changing into butyric fermentation in silage ensiled at 30°C and 45°C occurred on ensiling for 21 and 65 days, respectively, as accompanied with high ammonia-N content ( >150g/kg N), which subsequently resulted in a sudden increase of pH (P < 0.05). In contrast, the increase of lactic acid content was observed in silage ensiled at 15°C during ensiling for 65 days (P<0.05). As the ensiling temperature rose, considerable losses in total FA,...

Adding distiller's grains and molasses on fermentation quality of rice straw silages Ciência Rural
Yuan,XianJun; Dong,ZhiHao; Desta,Seare Tajebe; Wen,AiYou; Zhu,Xiaoxuan; Rong,Ting; Shao,Tao.
ABSTRACT: Ensilage is a simple and low-cost strategy to enable long term preservation and environmentally friendly utilization of agricultural by-products, such as straws and distiller's grains (DG) for ruminants. Effect of mixing different proportions of DG and rice straw (i.e. 0, 10, 20 or 30% of DG) with or without 5% molasses addition on fermentation and chemical variables of silages was evaluated. The study was conducted as a randomized blocks design in a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement, with three replications, using laboratory silos of 1L capacity (n=24). Despite a significant interaction (P<0.01) between DG and molasses addition was observed for most variables, in general the increased addition of DG linearly decreased the pH value, acetic acid...

Evaluation of sugar cane bagasse subjected to haying and ensiling Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Pereira,Rosana Cristina; Evangelista,Antônio Ricardo; Muniz,Joel Augusto.
This work aimed to evaluate sugar cane bagasse from cachaça production, subjected to hay-making and ensiling. The experiment was conduced at Universidade Federal de Lavras, MG, using the completely random delineation (CRD), with seven treatment and three repetitions. The treatments were constituted of in natura sugar cane bagasse (INB), manually hayed and baled sugar cane bagasse, mechanically hayed and baled, manually baled INB and mechanically baled INB, whole ensiled INB and chopped ensiled INB. Bromatological composition, tampon capacity (TC), pH values and total sugar rate of the INB were evaluated. For the ensilage, there were used cistern silos and for the baling, manual and mechanical balers. The bagasse was baled in natura, or after reaching 89%...
