Modelling of marketing strategies for the single markets vs marketing strategy for the global market: Case study mobiExplore AgEcon
Seric, Neven; Vinko, Maljic; Perisic, Mate.
A successful treating of a single, national, market through new challenges of marketing management is notably different than treating of the global market. The paper provides the case study of Gideon Multimedia, IT firm from Croatia. The company’s main product is mobiExplore, touristic guide platform for mobile phones. The application could be adapted to different marketplaces - global and national, for different countries. Because of different dynamic of the growth of national mobile markets even the global marketing strategy for the mobiExplore applications needs to be adapted to each national case. Establishing of the national strategy needs to be adapted through market research of the local market. The paper argues that customized for UK market...

A turizmus szerepe a Mátravidéken AgEcon
David, Lorant; Toth, Geza.

Henneberger, Fred; Ziegler, Alexandre.
This paper analyses the potential employment effects of foreign direct investment in the Swiss services industry. First, the theoretical analysis considers the consequences on domestic employment resulting from the specific characteristics of services compared with those of industrial goods. It is demonstrated that conventional research in this field systematically ignores important factors which influence domestic employment. We point out that, not only the degree of tradability of services, but also the mobility of consumers and producers, as well as the motives underlying the decisions for foreign investment have a crucial influence on the consequences to be expected for the domestic labour market. Second, an initial attempt was undertaken to...

NEW TYPES OF TOURISM AND TOURISM MARKETING IN THE POST-INDUSTRIAL WORLD AgEcon
Arva, Laszlo; Deli-Gray, Zsuzsa.
At the end of the 20th century in the most developed countries economy and society went through profound transformation. The emerging post-industrial society can be characterised by the dominance of service industry, more leisure time of the population, higher disposable income and more conscious consumers. These conscious consumers are more and more quality orientated and reject undifferentiated mass products. New customers of tourism and hospitality industry are not only more affluent – so less price conscious – and more quality orientated but they are also seeking activity, participation, fantasy, and experience. These new types of tourists are interested rather in aesthetic aspects of life and are seeking highly differentiated, personalised experience....

The Contribution of the Grape and Wine Industry to Idaho’s Economy: Agribusiness and Tourism Impacts AgEcon
Foltz, John C.; Woodall, Stacie; Wandschneider, Philip R.; Taylor, R. Garth.
The impact of Idaho’s wine and grape industry was assessed as an agribusiness and as a tourist industry. Idaho’s grape and wine industry is in its infancy, with wine sales of $15 million from 15 wineries and growers cultivating about 1,000 acres, primarily in southwestern Idaho’s Canyon County. Synthesized output multipliers for wine tourism were virtually identical to the agribusiness output multipliers (1.86 and 2.10 for Canyon County and the state of Idaho, respectively). The wine and grape industry’s agribusiness impact is $15 million in sales and 120 jobs in Idaho, and $23 million and 140 jobs for Canyon County. In contrast, tourism expenditures stimulate other businesses in addition to the agribusiness linkages of grape and wine production. Thus,...

Valuation of Tourism's Natural Resources AgEcon
Tisdell, Clement A..
Discusses the implications of the economic valuation of natural resources used for tourism and relates this valuation to the concept of total economic valuation. It demonstrates how applications of the concept of total economic valuation can be supportive of the conservation of natural resources used for tourism. Techniques for valuing tourism’s natural resources are then outlined and critically evaluated. Consideration is given to travel cost methods, contingent valuation methods, and hedonic pricing approaches before concentrating on current developments of valuation techniques, such as choice modelling. The general limitations of existing methods are considered and it is argued that more attention should be given to developing guidelines that will...

A területhasználat néhány változása és következményei a Tisza-tónál AgEcon
Vasvari, Agnes; David, Lorant; Szabo, Szilard.
A Tisza-tó jelentős változásokat idézett elő a térség életében, módosult a települések térbeli kiterjedése. Ez a fajta térmódosulás a tanulmányban bemutatott ábrákon kiválóan végigkövethető. Sarud, Abádszalók és Tiszafüred esetében egyértelműen megállapítható, hogy a települések térszerkezetének eltolódása a Tisza-tó partján kínálkozó turisztikai lehetőségek hatására következett be. A településkép beépítettségében, új településrészek kialakításában, a település arculatának módosulásában szintén közrejátszott a Tisza-tó léte. A strandok településformáló hatása is jelentős a feléjük vezető lineáris infrastruktúrák fejlődésében, az út mentén lévő telkek árainak felértékelésében és a parton végbemenő változásokban (például Abádszalók). Az elárasztással...

Wildlife-based Tourism and Increased Tourist Support for Nature Conservation Financially and Otherwise: Evidence from Sea Turtle Ecotourism at Mon Repos AgEcon
Tisdell, Clement A.; Wilson, Clevo.
Arguments of most conservationists supporting ecotourism have been based upon the views that it is environmentally friendly as a resource-use and that receipts from it can counter demands to use the natural resources involved for more extractive economic purposes. But wildlife-based ecotourism can also have positive impacts in itself on the willingness of tourists to pay for wildlife conservation, strengthen the pro-conservation attitudes of tourists and foster personal actions by them which contribute to wildlife conservation. These aspects are explored in this article on the basis of a survey of tourists visiting Mon Repos Beach near Bundaberg, Queensland for the purpose of watching marine turtles. The results enable several of the conservation...

Birds - Their importance to visitors to an Australian Rainforest AgEcon
Tisdell, Clement A.; Wilson, Clevo.
Lamington National Park in Queensland, Australia is noted for its rainforest and is part of Australia’s fourteen World Heritage listed properties but no systematic study has been done of the importance of birds to its visitors. This study rectifies this situation. It is based on data from survey forms handed to visitors at an important site in this park and completed by visitors following their visit. This yielded 622 useable replies. These enabled us to establish the comparative importance of birds as an attraction to this site. Furthermore, logit regression is used to analyze and to identify factors that increase the likelihood of a visitor saying that birds are an important attraction. In addition, the relative importance to visitors of various...

Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Strategies In Italy. An Economic Assessment AgEcon
Carraro, Carlo; Sgobbi, Alessandra.
In this paper, the economic value of the impacts of climate change is assessed for different Italian economic sectors and regions. Sectoral and regional impacts are then aggregated to provide a macroeconomic estimate of variations in GDP induced by climate change in the next decades. Autonomous adaptation induced by changes in relative prices and in stocks of natural and economic resources is fully taken into account. The model also considers international trade effects. Results show that in Italy aggregate GDP losses induced by climate change are likely to be small. However, some economic sectors (e.g. tourism) and the alpine regions will suffer significant economic damages.

Valuing the Otago Peninsula: The Economic Benefits of Conservation AgEcon
Tisdell, Clement A..
It is suggested that valuing objects is a distinctive human trait. It is a prerequisite for rational behaviour. Factors that are likely to influence valuations, the difficulties of getting agreements about valuations and the limited perspective of economics as a basis for valuation are discussed generally. Attributes of Otago Peninsula that seem to be valuable and worth conserving are listed and discuss taking into account possible conflicts in getting maximum value from these attributes. Particular attention is given to the economic value of conserving wildlife species on the Otago Peninsula. It is estimated that as a result of the presence of these species and their use for tourism, expenditure of over $100 million annually is generated in the Dunedin...

THE ROLE OF RESORT PLANNING IN SUSTAINING TOURIST DESTINATION IMAGE AgEcon
Ozdemir, Gocke.
The environmental quality is recognized to be an important factor while making decisions upon the destination to visit. The image of the resort will likely to be more realistic but also complex after the tourists’ visit. The complex image of the resort, where the tourist has about after visiting it, is crucial for creating loyalty and also word of mouth advertising. Therefore, if the tourists visiting the resort are to complain then the intermediaries will likely to reduce the tourism activities through that resort or the tourism activities will turn into a more hotel facility based activity. Resort planning is a continous process and defines the systemized and controlled development of the resort. Resort planning can be implemented in an actual resort or...

Recreation, Tourism, and Rural Well-Being AgEcon
Reeder, Richard J.; Brown, Dennis M..
The promotion of recreation and tourism has been both praised and criticized as a rural development strategy. This study uses regression analysis to assess the effect of recreation and tourism development on socioeconomic conditions in rural recreation counties. The findings imply that recreation and tourism development contributes to rural well-being, increasing local employment, wage levels, and income, reducing poverty, and improving education and health. But recreation and tourism development is not without drawbacks, including higher housing costs. Local effects also vary significantly, depending on the type of recreation area.

Outbound Business Travel Depends on Business Returns: Australian Evidence AgEcon
Collins, Darrian; Tisdell, Clement A..
In an earlier note, Collins and Tisdell (2002b) explored the possibility of a long-run relationship between Australian business returns and international business travel. Using annual data they found that such a relationship exists. The purpose of this study is to further examine this relationship using quarterly data for the time frame 1974:1 to 1999:4. In addition, previous studies on international business travel have offered some but not strong evidence for the existence of a positive relationship between the level of international business travel and real GDP of the origin country. This study suggests that the aggregate return on business investments is a superior predictor of international business travel than GDP. The Engle-Granger and Johansen’s...
