| Tritia reticulata (Gastropoda) is widely distributed in various biotopes of the Black sea ad differs by its high resistance to unfavourable conditions, which makes it a convenient object when studying the effect of environmental fluctuations on the organism and population. | An experimental study was performed in the sea to elucidate the influence of the mussel populations on formation of the benthic community on the sandy-shelly ground. The presence of mussels is shown to produce a certain effect on the population on formation of the benthic community on the sandy-shelly ground. The presence of mussels is shown to produce a certain effect on the populating of the loose substrate by the benthic animals but this influence is observed to be stronger with respect to the quantitative development of the community than relative to its qualitative composition. |

| Metabolism intensity and changes in the body composition are compared in mollusks of different size (different age): Mytilus galloprovincialis L. and Rapana thomasiana Crosse. It is shown that changes in the ratio of the body components (fresh and dry mass of the body, mantle fluid, shell) and in the protein content in Mytilus galloprovincialis L. and Rapana thomasiana Crosse groups of different size are of different character and connected with the age peculiarities of the mollusks. The mentioned changes in the body composition do not affect a regular decrease in the metabolism intensity with an increase in the animal mass. | The study was made for macrozoobenthos of bottom sediments filling spaces between rocks. Four bays influenced by the anthropogenic factors of different intensity are compared with the open sea coast. Bottom sediments belong to carbonate organic debris sand ones and are characterized by the large size grains, low natural humidity (less than 40%), positive redox potential, weak alkali environmental reaction, relatively low accumulation of allochthonic substances. As compared with fine-grained bottom sediments of the same regions they are inhabited by a richer, as to species and quantity, macrozoobenthos represented mainly by sestonophages. | Zinc accumulation in the organs and tissues of mussels (gills, liver, gonads, muscles) and in algae (ulva, enteromorpha) was registered 24 hours after the effect of the toxicant. Simultaneously a decrease of zinc concentration in water was observed as well. Its maximum accumulation in the organs and tissues of mussels is determined during the first 48 hours. Translocation of the living organisms into pure sea water resulted in a gradual decrease of zinc content in them. Toxic effect of zinc for mussels was found on the 8-9th day at a concentration of 0.5%mg, and on the 12th day at concentrations of 0.1 and 0.3 mg%. | The article deals with the unknown before in science phenomenon of Lepas anatifera oviposition on the surface of the house in case of its settling on oil aggregates. | Active strains of phenol-decomposing microorganisms isolated from the Black sea shelf zone water are able to grow on mono- bi- and triatomic phenol compounds. Bacterial cultures suggested for the experiment grew well on monophenol and o-cresol, gave worse results with resorcin and floroglucin applied and practically did not grow on hydroquinone at all. |

| The effect of DDT on respiration of the isolated mussel hepatopancreas mitochondria as well as of mitochondria of mussels that were from 15 min to 24 h in sea water containing DDT (0.1 mg/ml) and B-complex vitamins was studied. The mitochondria were isolated by the method of Schnieder and Hogebum, their respiration was determined polarographically in the Gubler medium. DDT is established to decrease the hepatopancreas mitochondria respiration both in the in vivo and in vitro experiments. The DDT effect is based on influencing biomembrane permiability and on disturbance of redox processes. The complex vitamins somewhat prevent this effect thus increasing the membrane resistance to the DDT action. |

| The article deals with the results of experimental studies in the effect of nitrogen, phosphorus and trace elements on productivity of the Platymonas accumulative culture. The method of the experiment planning was used to determine the concentrations and trace elements ratio in the nutrient medium favourable for the highest alga productivity, other culture conditions being preset. The nutrient medium is composed which yields the Platymonas concentration reaching 4.5 g of dry biomass per liter in the accumulation process. The highest productivity of Platymonas (for a 3 cm suspension layer and 30-35 Wm^-2 PAR) of the culture in the accumulation process was 22.5 g of dry biomass/(m^2*day). |

| The currents are calculated by the dynamic method relative to a 1500 m horizon. The space structure of geostrophic currents is studied. It is shown that in the frontal zone the current is more intensive and represents comparatively narrow stream penetrating to a considerable depth. The current is parallel to the axis of the temperature and salt-bearing front but the meadstream of the current on the surface is 20-40 miles displaced to the left (as seen along the current) of the front axis. | Data on composition and distribution of main groups of phytoplankton in the Mediterranean basin seas (the Black, Ionian, Sardinian seas) and in the Southern Atlantic were obtained on the basis of organisms calculations in the "living" drop. In a series of the studied seas the phytoplankton amount changed from 113.3 mill.cell/m^3, 315.5 mg/m^3 in the Black sea to 26.4 mill. cell/m^3, 14.4 mg/m^3 in the Sardinian sea. In the Atlantic Ocean region near the Straight of Gibraltar the number of phytoplankton cells was the same as in the Black sea and biomass amounted to 50 mg/m^3. | The degree of mollusks effect on the fouling community microconditions at the stage of dynamic equilibrium is presented based on the results of studies in oxygen uptake by mussels and the dynamics of dissolved organic substance (DOS) excretion. The exponential equations are obtained reflecting the dependence of specific rate of DOS excretion on the mass of mussels. It is shown that the delivery of external metabolites to the environment in time is described in most cases by the second order equations. The regression equation is derived which reflects the interrelation between mollusks respiration and DOS content. | The behaviour of four ontogenetic developmental stages was studied in Euchaeta marina: egg (last embryonic stage), nauplial stage II, copepoditic stage I and stage of female. The quantitative and qualitative changes in the locomotor activity characteristics were analyzed in ontogenesis, the specimens being kept on the Gyrodinium fissum alga 3mg/l concentration and without food (control conditions). It is shown that diversity of the behavioural actions and the active phase period (locomotion time) increase in ontogenesis. | The number of sound-scattering layers (SSL) in the south-western part of the anticyclonic circulation of the Southern Atlantic increased from the equatorial water mass south-westward. Most frequently three distinctly pronounced SSL were observed, but in regions with elevated level of biological production their number reached seven. Diurnal vertical distribution of SSL was characterized by their sinking to the depth in the morning and upwelling to the surface in the evening. |
