Roman, William; Pelletier, Dominique; Wickel, Julien; Giannasi, Paul.
• This work deals with coral reef fish resources and communities in the Natural Marine Park of Mayotte, Western Indian Ocean). It relies on remote unbaited underwater video observations, using the STAVIRO rotating technique. • This document is complementary to the main assessment report: William Roman and Dominique Pelletier, 2016. The STAVIRO video technique for monitoring fish resources and reef ecosystems in the Natural Marine Park of Mayotte (Western Indian Ocean). Pilot study and recommendations for monitoring. EXPLOCEAN-IFREMER Report. • It pertains to the assessment of resources with respect to fishing pressure and factors related to local habitat and reef geomorphology. • It comprises the description of the metrics used for the assessment:...

Are commercial logbook and scientific CPUE data useful for characterizing the spatial and seasonal distribution of exploited populations? The case of the Celtic Sea whiting ArchiMer
Verdoit, Marion; Pelletier, Dominique; Bellail, Robert.
A statistical approach is proposed to utilize the information contained both in scientific surveys and commercial fishing logbooks, in order to determine spatial and temporal distributions of recruiting and spawning fish of exploited populations. The approach is based on multivariate descriptive methods including ordination methods and classification techniques. A typology involving a principal component analysis (PCA), followed by a hierarchical ascending classification (HAC), is applied to both scientific and commercial data. PCA that accounts for spatial and temporal contiguities were performed. These analyses allow to compare structures observed at global and local scales, with those observed without focusing on a particular scale. The method is...

L'Ifremer entre ciel et mer. Dossier ArchiMer
Chopot, Sandrine; Loubersac, Lionel; Laugier, Thierry; Chim, Liet; Pelletier, Dominique.
It is about an article presenting the institute, its history, its presence and the projects it leads in New Caledonia. After a first part of general presentation of Ifremer a focus is placed on the strengthening of the presence of the institute in New Caledonia. 3 points are developed by L. Loubersac on the in-house organization, the strategy and examples of works realized within the framework of the buildind up of the lagoons integrated project. Then a spotlight is offered toward 3 projects: DEDUCTION 2 which aims at optimizing the performances of the shrimp aquaculture sector (T. Laugier), AMICAL which focuses on micro-algae aquaculture (L. Chim) and AMBIO centred on the monitoring and the definition of performance indicators for management of Marine...

Changes in the catch composition of artisanal fisheries attributable to dolphin depredation in a Mediterranean marine reserve ArchiMer
Rocklin, Delphine; Santoni, Marie-catherine; Culioli, Jean-michel; Tomasini, Jean-antoine; Pelletier, Dominique; Mouillot, David.
There is increasing evidence from previous studies, and from fishers' observations, that coastal dolphins use fishing nets as an easily accessible feeding source, damaging or depredating fish caught in the nets. This study investigates the impact of dolphin depredation on artisanal trammelnets by analysing the catch composition of 614 artisanal fishing operations in the Bonifacio Strait Natural Reserve (France). Common bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) attacked, on average, 12.4% of the nets and damaged 8.3% of the catch. However, attacked nets were characterized by statistically significantly higher catch per unit effort than unattacked ones. Catch composition also differed significantly after dolphin attacks; bentho-pelagic fish were more...
