Músculos Fibulares Largo, Corto... y Mínimo: ¿Por qué no? International Journal of Morphology

Raju,N. K. B; Ramesh,Geetha; Basha,Sabiha Hayath; Ushakumary,S; Kishore,P. V. S.
The tissue pieces of palatine tonsil were collected from different postnatal age groups of sheep from the Corporation Slaughter House, Perambur, Chennai. The palatine tonsil consisted of a surface epithelium, capsule, tonsillar lobes, crypts, crypt epithelium and tonsillar follicles. The surface epithelium over the palatine tonsil was made up of non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium in all the postnatal age groups studied. The palatine tonsil was clearly demarcated from the surrounding structures by a distinct connective tissue capsule and one septa dividing the tonsil into two lobes. The surface epithelium was invaginated into the substance of the tonsil to form primary and secondary crypts in each lobe. The crypt epithelium covered the regions...

Prevalence of Obesity in a Sample of Schoolchildren from Municipalized Schools in the IX Region of Chile 2008-2009 International Journal of Morphology
Carrasco,Vanessa; Martínez,Cristián; Silva,Héctor; Collipal,Erika; Campos,Christian; Silva,Tamara.
Obesity is a prevalent disease in Chile. The multitude of cause factors makes it a complex disease and therefore very difficult to treat, since its roots lie in the earliest stages of life. We evaluated pupils from 21 municipalized primary schools, in rural and urban communities from the 10 districts of the IX Region. The sample consisted of 275 subjects in Kindergarten and first year primary school in the year 2008, who were monitored over two years. The results show a trend indicating an increase in the prevalence of obesity in the sample, the difference being statistically significant, p=0.000. These results show that obesity is increasing, and that more action is needed to slow this disease occurring from early childhood.

The radial nerve is a terminal branch of the brachial plexus that innervates the entire posterior compartment of the upper limb. Researches have shown that the branches can contribute to innervation of the muscles from the anterior compartment of the arm. This study sought to identify branches of radial nerve for brachialis and coracobrachialis muscles and its clinical value during surgery. Dissection was performed in 60 arms, from 30 corpses selected from the Human Anatomy Laboratories of Universidade Estadual de Ciências da Saúde de Alagoas (UNCISAL). In each arm, three segments of the same proportion were considered (proximal, middle and distal) in order to observe the number of radial nerve branches to brachialis and coracobrachialis muscles. Branches...

Ultrastructural Characterization of the Pars Distalis of the Indian Female Sheath-Tailed Bat, Taphozous longimanus (Hardwicke) International Journal of Morphology
Nerkar,Archana A; Gadegone,Mohan M.
The present ultrastructural observations demonstrate the presence of six cell types in the pars distalis of non-pregnant and pregnant bats of Taphozous longimanus. In the pars distalis of T. longimanus, STH cells are round to oval with eccentrically placed nucleus, numerous secretory granules and well developed Golgi indicate a cell under vigorous synthetic activity while those filled with secretory granules with reduced Golgi complex suggest reserve or storage state of cells. LTH cell is characterized by the large secretory granules, dilated endoplasmic reticulum and numerous mitochondria in the cytoplasm which indicate that these cells are hypertrophied and synthetically very active during pregnancy. ACTH cells are found either singly or in groups and...

Anomalous Branching Pattern of Lateral Cord of Brachial Plexus International Journal of Morphology
Das,Srijit; Paul,Shipra.
During routine dissection, an unusual formation of median nerve was detected in the right upper limb of a 55 year old male cadaver. The median nerve had an additional contribution from lateral cord. The two branches of the lateral cord designated as upper and the lower branches were observed at different levels. The upper branch was in close contact with the third part of the axillary artery and it crossed the vessel anteriorly to unite with a branch of the medial cord to form the median nerve. The median nerve thus formed was related medially to the axillary artery (instead of the normal position of being anterolateral). The median nerve descended below and was joined by an additional lower branch from the lateral cord. Interestingly, the ulnar nerve...
