Habitat preferences of coral-associated wentletrap snails (Gastropoda: Epitoniidae) Naturalis
Gittenberger, A.; Hoeksema, B.W..
Examination of about 60,000 scleractinian corals of the families Dendrophylliidae, Euphylliidae and Fungiidae for the presence of associated wentletrap snails (Gastropoda: Epitoniidae) revealed various ectoparasitic life history strategies. Twenty Indo-Pacific wentletrap species were found, which were either host-specific or generalist. Most species were associated with mushroom corals, especially free-living species belonging to the Fungiidae. Snails showed different preferences with regard to their position relative to mushroom corals, the host’s size and its substrate. No preferences for depth were found. Infestation rates of mushroom corals in multi-species assemblages were negatively correlated with coral densities, which indicates that epitoniid...

Bruyne, R. de; Wallbrink, H.; Gmelig Meyling, A..

A new species of living scallop of the genus Anguipecten (Bivalvia, Pectinidae) from the tropical Indo-Pacific Naturalis
Dijkstra, H.H..
Introduction During the Indonesian-French Karubar cruise to eastern Indonesia a new scallop was found near the Kai Islands, which was provisionally identified by Dijkstra & Kastoro(1997: 279, figs 156-159), based on a few dead specimens from the upper bathyal depths. Subsequently, more material was collected by the French Musorstom 9 cruise to the Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia), sufficient to describe it herein. All specimens (empty shells) were deposited in MNHN, with voucher specimens in the private pectinoid reference collection of the author.

Die Cypraeidae von Niederländisch Ost Indien Naturalis
Schilder, M.; Schilder, F.A..

On Iberian Cochlicopidae and the genus Cryptazeca (Gastropoda, Pulmonata) Naturalis
Gittenberger, E..
Some new data concerning the four species of Cochlicopidae known from the Iberian peninsula, viz., Azeca goodalli, Hypnophila boissii, Cochlicopa lubrica, and C. lubricella, are presented. In addition, Hypnophila malagana spec. nov. is described (by Gittenberger & Menkhorst). Cochlicopa lubrica (Müller, 1774) is designated (by Gittenberger & Waldén) as the type-species of Cochlicopa Férussac, April 1821. It is shown that the genus name Cionella Jeffreys, 1829, should not be used instead of Cochlicopa Férussac, April 1821. The genus Cryptazeca, still of uncertain systematic position, but conchologically similar to the Cochlicopidae, is revised. Anatomical characters could not be used. The data concerning Cryptazeca monodonta, C. subcylindrica, and...

Comments on some new occurrences of heteromorph ammonites in the Lower Cretaceous (late Valanginian — early Barremian) of the Eastern Alpine and Western Carpathian systems Naturalis
Vasícek, Z..
New records of heteromorph ammonites from the Silesian Unit of the Outer Western Carpathians (Czech Republic) are represented especially by small pyrite steinkerns with suture lines preserved. A lesser proportion of them belongs to representatives of the subfamily Bochianitidae from the Valanginian. Among the most interesting is Baculina rouyana d’Orbigny. Another group consists primarily of lower Barremian Leptoceratoidinae. In addition to commonly occurring species of Hamulinites and Leptoceratoides, an Eoheteroceras assemblage is often found, represented partially by new elements. Heteromorphs from the Northern Calcareous Alps (Austria) come from marly Hauterivian limestones. Ptychoceras meyrati is present through most of the Hauterivian. Well-dated...

Boesveld, A.; Kalkman, V.J..

Vitrinellidae (Marine Mollusca Gastropoda) from Holocene deposits in Surinam (Dutch Guiana) Naturalis
Regteren Altena, C.O. van.
Five species of Vitrinellidae have been found in the Holocene shell ridges of Surinam. Of these, Vitrinella (Striovitrinella) cupidinensis,Cochliolepis surinamensis, and Solariorbis guianensis are new species, while Cyclostremiscus caraboboensis Weisbord is known from Pliocene beds in Venezuela and Teinostoma (Pseudorotella) schumoi Vanatta belongs to the Recent fauna of Guatemala. A paratype of Vitrinella cupidinensis spec. nov. was found on Olinda beach near Recife, Brazil, and clearly is a Recent shell. It seems possible, and even likely, that eventually all five species will appear to be still living in the same general region.

Deinse, A.B. van.

Supplement to a monograph of the Indo-Australian Clausiliidae Naturalis
Loosjes, F.E..
Since the publication of my monograph of the Indo-Australian Clausiliidae (Loosjes, 1953) I obtained some additional information, consisting mainly of new distribution records and data on shell-structures. The present paper deals with these additional data, while furthermore two new species are described. The specimens concerned were obtained on loan from the following Museums: Zoölogisch Museum, Amsterdam (Z.M.A.), Rijks Museum van Natuurlijke Historie, Leiden (R.M.N.H.), Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Genova (M.C.G.), Natur-Museum Senckenberg, Frankfurt am Main (S.M.F.), Ueberseemuseum, Bremen (U.M.B.). 2. Catalogue of the Cymatiidae in 's Rijks Museum van Natuurlijke Historie Naturalis
Bayer, Ch..
In continuation of the "Catalogue of the Bursidae" (cf. „Zoologische Mededeelingen", vol. 14, p. 224, 1932), I now publish a list of the Cymatiidae in the collection of our Museum, after having revised that family. We are indebted to the work of KESTEVEN, DALL, PILSBRY & VANATTA, IREDALE, and others, for a more rational classification of the Cymatiidae. This family was formerly composed of two genera, viz. "Ranella" and "Triton" of older authors. In this century, however, as a result of researches on the dentition and the characters of the shell, these two genera have been placed into two separated families: the Cymatiidae and the Bursidae; moreover, according to the above-mentioned characteristics, the tritonoid "Ranellae", belonging to the sections...

On six species of marine Mollusca from suriname, four of which are new Naturalis
Regteren, C.O. van.
Four new species are here described in order to have their descriptions published before "Seashells of Wia Wia" by D. J. Green & R. H. Hill and the second part of my paper on the Holocene and Recent marine Mollusca of Suriname will appear. Notes are added on two species for which names are used different from those in previous publications. The description of Solen rosewateri n. sp. is nearly completely based on specimens obtained during the Research of the Continental Shelf of Suriname (Onderzoek Continentaal Plat Suriname: O.C.P.S.), which dredged off the Suriname coast in 1966 and 1969. As large parts of the O.C.P.S. material have not yet been sorted out, there is a possibility that specimens of the other new species described in the present paper...
