Lycastis meraukensis n. sp. Dr. J. W. R. Koch, member of the New-Guinea expedition of the Kon. Nederl. Aardrijkskundig Genootschap in 1904, found at Merauke in decayed wood of the Sago-palm 9 specimens of this worm, viz. 2 large ones, one of which is incomplete and 7 smaller ones. Unfortunately it is not mentioned whether the tree was met with in fresh or brackish water of the river or in salt water at the sea-shore. The dorsal side of some of the worms is dark flesh-coloured, whereas a red brown ring occurs around the anal segment. The largest specimen measures about 150 mm. in length and has a breadth of 7 mm. in the median body-region (without the parapodia); the number of its segments amounts to 170. One of the smaller specimens has a length of 60 mm.... |

Among the Polychaeta of the Leyden Museum I met with a large Nereis-specimen, presumably collected in Japan, that in the structure of its parapodia so much agrees with Ner. ijimai1) described by Izuka from that country, that in my opinion it must be identified with this species, though there are some discrepancies in the armature of the proboscis. Nereis ijimai, like as Ner. oxypoda Marenz, Ner. virens Sars a. o. are characterized by the presence of a large, foliaceous dorsal ligula at the parapodia of the median body region and were ranged by Kinberg in his genus Alitta2). Unfortunately Izuka had only a single female specimen at his disposal, that was sexually mature and showed some epitocous transformation after the 40th parapodium by the presence of... |

— Oberkiefer: I) Zange; II) 8 resp. 9 Zähne; III) 6 Zähne; IV) ca. 7 resp. ca. 10 Zähne; V) 0 resp. 0 Zähne. Genus APHRODITELLA Roule 1). Mc Intosh 2) in 1885 first described a minute Aphroditean-worm from the West-Indian abyss, the ventral bristles of which are „ densely pilose almost to the terminal hook and provided with a spur as in Laetmatonice" (Aphrod. intermedia); two years thereafter Ehlers 3) among the Annelids of the Blake, from a depth of 1719 M., met with an Aphrodite, that possesses ventral bristles, provided on one side with a beard of hairs (Aphrod. obtecta). Finally Roule among the Annelids of the Travailleur and the Talisman found an Aphrodite from a depth of 1084 M., that also possesses ventral setae with a pinnate appearance; with the two preceding species he ranges this form in a new genus Aphroditella. Several species of this genus appear to... |

INTRODUCTION During the week 7th to 12th June, 1971 opportunity was taken of accompanying members of the I.B.P. team based at the Tjeukemeer, the Netherlands, on a boat journey through the Friesland lakes. The main aim of the author was to collect Turbellaria (Tricladida and Microturbellaria) from the vegetation and stones in the littoral zone of 16 lakes (see Table 1). However, any specimens of Gasteropoda and Hirudinea obtained in samples were also noted. METHODS In the reed beds, mostly Phragmites (see Table 1), an F.B.A. net (60 meshes/inch = approx. 23.6 meshes/cm) mounted in a square frame on a 5 ft. (1.524 metres) pole was used to sweep through the vegetation and top layers of substratum for a given period of time (minimum 15 minutes). The contents... |

Nereis (Perinereis) vallata Gr. Fundort: Tobelo. Halmaheira. 31. III. 1910. — A. Huetink. |

Five Scolelepis species from the Gulf of Mexico and Western Atlantic Ocean are reported and certain species previously synonymized with Scolelepis (S.) squamata are revised. Four species are reinstated: S. (S.) goodbodyi (Jones, 1962), S. (S.) minuta (Treadwell, 1939), S. (S.) acuta (Treadwell, 1914), and S. (S.) agilis (Verrill, 1873); and two are described as new: S. (S.) lighti n. sp., and S. (S.) vossae n. sp. Scolelepis (Scolelepis) goodbodyi (Jones, 1962) n. comb., S. (S.) minuta (Treadwell, 1939) n. comb., S. (S.) acuta (Treadwell, 1914), and S. (S.) agilis (Verrill, 1873) are removed from synonymy with S. (S.) squamata Müller, 1806. The record of Scolelepis (P.) texana Foster, 1971 from the Grand Caribbean region is confirmed. A key to all... |
