Perception paysanne et adoption des biopesticides et/ou extraits botaniques en production maraîchère au Bénin AgEcon
Adekambi, Souleimane Adeyemi; Adegbola, Patrice Ygue; Arouna, Aminou.
The importance of farmers’ perceptions of characteristics on agricultural innovation adoption has increased these two decades. Empirical studies revealed that in addition to farmers’ socioeconomic characteristics and institutional factors, farmers’ perceptions of the innovation-specific characteristics are particularly important in determining whether or not to adopt them. This study assessed vegetables farmers’ perceptions of botanical extracts and biopesticides compared with current chemical pesticides. It also examined the relationship between farmers’ perceptions and the adoption of botanical extracts and biopesticides. Data were collected from a stratified randomly sample of 198 vegetables farmers selected in vegetable producing zones in Benin and...

UNTER WELCHEN UMSTANDEN WURDEN DEUTSCHE LANDWIRTE GENTECHNISCH VERANDERTEN RAPS ANBAUEN? EIN DISCRETE CHOICE EXPERIMENT (German) AgEcon
Breustedt, Gunnar; Muller-Scheessel, Jorg; Meyer-Schatz, Henrika Marie.

CROP BIOTECHNOLOGY FOR AFRICA: WHO WILL GAIN FROM BT MAIZE IN KENYA? AgEcon
Owuor, George; Smale, Melinda; De Groote, Hugo.
Bt maize in Kenya is promising biotechnology innovation for poor households. Econometric prediction from a trait-based model of variety adoption indicates that the choice of host variety has equity and efficiency implications related to heterogeneity in maize growing environments and pest pressures, as well as the differences among farm households in terms of wealth, income, and market access.

Adoption and Abandonment of Precision Soil Sampling in Cotton Production AgEcon
Walton, Jonathan C.; Lambert, Dayton M.; Roberts, Roland K.; Larson, James A.; English, Burton C.; Larkin, Sherry L.; Martin, Steven W.; Marra, Michele C.; Paxton, Kenneth W.; Reeves, Jeanne M..
Adoption of precision agriculture technology has arrived considerable attention, but abandonment has received little. This paper identified factors motivating adoption and abandonment of precision soils sampling in cotton. Younger producers who farmed more cotton area, owned more of their cropland, planted more non-cotton area, or used a computer were more likely to adopt precision soil sampling. Those with more cotton area or who owned livestock were more likely to abandon, while those who used precision soil sampling longer, or used variable-rate fertilizer application were less likely to abandon precision soil sampling.

Property rights and crop choice in rural Peru, 1994-2004 AgEcon
Field, Alfred J.; Field, Erica Marie; Torero, Maximo.
The period of 1994 to 2004 was one in which rural households in Peru experienced dramatic changes in ownership rights through a large nation-wide land titling program and a significant opening of the economy to international trade. This paper takes this prime opportunity to examine whether lack of ownership rights presents a significant barrier to the adoption of commercial crops and/or modern farming practices as a result to changes which reduced domestic market distortions, opened up the economy and thereby presumably altered relative prices between traditional agricultural crops and those produced primarily for export. To the extent that participation was quasi-exogenous to other household features influencing production choices, the titling program...

The Impact of Access to Credit on the Adoption of hybrid maize in Malawi: An Empirical test of an Agricultural Household Model under credit market failure AgEcon
Simtowe, Franklin; Zeller, Manfred.
Guided by the frame work of a household model under credit market failure, this paper aims at investigating the impact of access to credit on the adoption of hybrid maize among households that vary in their credit constraints. The data used in the study is from Malawi collected by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).Using the direct elicitation approach; households are classified into constrained and unconstrained regimes. The impact of access to credit is estimated using a switching regression in a Double-Hurdle model. Results reveal that while access to credit increases adoption among credit constrained households, it has no effect among unconstrained households. Results also show that factors that affect adoption among credit...

An Economic Evaluation of Adoption of the Conservation Compliance Program: A Stochastic Dominance Approach AgEcon
Govindasamy, Ramu; Cochran, Mark J..
Using stochastic dominance, this paper examines the adoption of the Conservation Compliance Program (CCP) in twelve Iowa soil types. Subsidies necessary to compensate producers for the increased risk of compliance strategies are estimated. Results indicate that to promote voluntary compliance with the CCP, the government should provide a subsidy of between $4.55 to $19.88 per acre, depending on the soil type.

ข้าวลูกผสม: งานวิจัยที่ยาวนานสำหรับทางเลือกการผลิตข้าว Thai Agricultural
Boriboon Somrith.
Hybrid rice is one of technological means to increase rice production. Research and development on hybrid rice has been conducted for more than 40 years. This article reviews the hybrid rice impacts on increasing rice production through hybrid rice technology in China, Vietnam and India. Status of hybrid rice research in Thailand from the past to present was summarized. Furthermore, consideration, especially on production cost and benefit in adoption of hybrid rice technology at farmer level was also proposed.

Socio-economic determinants of the awareness and adoption of citrus production practices in Pakistan Ciência Rural
Ashraf,Saleem; Khan,Ghazanfar Ali; Ali,Shoukat; Iftikhar,Muhammad.
Citrus is the leading fruit of Pakistan and famous worldwide especially kinnow cultivar because of its pleasant taste and remarkable quality. The yield of citrus per hectare in Pakistan is almost half of potential due to non-adoption of recommended horticultural practices by citrus growers. Adopting a decision regarding the improvement of practices is usually influenced by various factors including farmers' socio-economic attributes. In order to determine the relationship between socio-economic aspects and the awareness and adoption of recommended citrus production practices the present study was carried out in Sargodha district from central Punjab, Pakistan. The Study was based upon cross sectional survey research design due to availability of sampling...
