There should be careful consideration of organic standards generally, and the new EU organic livestock production standards specifically, with regard to animal health and welfare, with a greater emphasis on disease control and eradication on a herd basis. 2. | This factsheet describes an Organic Centre Wales, supported by Farming Connect, project to benchmark organic dairy, beef and sheep enterprises. The results provide a good basis for understanding the financial contribution of individual enterprises to the farm business, as well as a better basis for price setting. In 2004/5, data from over 50 organic farms in Wales (almost 10% of the total) was collected and analysed using standard Farm Business Survey methods. Data are presented and findings for variable costs and sales and the future for the organic market explained. |

| As a consequence of organic standards and principles, organic dairy producers are frequently faced with a different set of management considerations than those found in conventional dairy systems. The broad objective of this study was to examine in detail the production characteristics of 13 well-established organic dairy herds, and to relate these to the specific conditions that exist within organic dairy farming. | Ziel der Forschungsarbeit war es, Wissenslücken zur Berufsbildung im Ökologischen Landbau (ÖL) im Bereich Landwirtschaft zu schließen. Untersucht wurden insbesondere die betriebliche Ausbildungssituation, das Lehrangebot an Berufs-, Fach- und Technikerschulen der relevanten Bundesländer sowie die fachliche Ausbildung zum ÖL an Fachhochschulen und Universitäten. Zweites zentrales Ziel war die Entwicklung von Strategien zur Verbesserung der Situation in der Berufsbildung im ÖL. | • Mobile-phone videos could be accessed by people with limited or no contact with information sources, such as younger women, and video based information was found to be understandable for illiterate farmers. • The use of video on mobile phones is a novel approach to farmer-to-farmer exchange and has great potential for enhancing dissemination programs or specific research and development projects to enable more resilient, inclusive and democratic agricultural information systems. • Of the farmers who had watched one of the videos (N = 148), 60.1 % had adopted at least one of the videos’ innovations. • Farmers who received the videos on their mobile phones shared them via Bluetooth with an average of 6 other farmers, quickly expanding their outreach. |

| Ziel des Projektes ist es, Forschungsergebnisse zu sichten, zusammenzufassen und in einer verständlichen und praxisorientierten Form und Sprache an verschiedene Akteure im Ökolandbau zu vermitteln. Letzteren wird damit die Teilnahme am Wissensfortschritt durch Weiterbildung ermöglicht. Die Forschungsergebnisse aus dem Bundesprogramm Ökologischer Landbau finden bei den Veranstaltungen besondere Berücksichtigung. In 2009 werden rund 50 Seminare und Veranstaltungen mit voraussichtlich über 1.000 Teilnehmenden durchgeführt. Inhaltliche Schwerpunkte sind Lebensmittelqualität und ganzheitliche Untersuchungsmethoden sowie Ausbringungstechnik von Pflanzenstärkungsmitteln. |
