Hvad må konventionel gylle koste? Organic Eprints
Hansen, Jesper.

Blumenstein, Benjamin; Siegmeier, Torsten; Selsam, Franziska; Hofmann, Frank; Zerger, Uli; Möller, Detlev.

Nutrient budgeting for trace elements: Examples from Scottish organic farms Organic Eprints
Owens, Katie; Watson, Christine.
This report was presented at the UK Organic Research 2002 Conference. Farmgate nutrient budgets have been calculated for Cu, Co and Mo for six farms in NE Scotland. All five livestock farms studied had a positive balance for Co, one showed a negative balance for Cu and two showed negative balances for Mo. The stockless farm studied showed a positive balance for Cu but negative balances for Co and Mo. These balances were calculated for a one-year period only and may thus have been strongly influenced by one-off purchases e.g. calcified seaweed. Future work will calculate budgets over whole rotations to provide a clearer picture of the long-term sustainability of trace element use on organic farms.

Ta fosforet tilbake Organic Eprints
Løes, Anne-Kristin; Eikås, Sondre.
Organic farming systems with restricted access to animal manure often experience decline in soil P concentrations. Nutrients should be cycled in society to maintain the long-term fertility of agricultural soil. One option for this may be precipitation of struvite (magnesium-ammonium phosphate) from sewage treatment plants, to be Applied as fertiliser. Struvite produced in a Norwegian sewage plant (Hias IKS)significantly increased yield levels and soil P concentrations, when applied in one season (2018) in a long-term experiment comparing two levels of manure application at Tingvoll research farm, NW Norway. Struvite has been proposed by the Expert Group EGTOP to be included in Annex 1, listing permitted fertiliser inputs in organic farming. However, a...

Biogas from manure – a new technology to close the nutrient and energy circuit on-farm Organic Eprints
Schäfer, W.; Evers, L.; Lehto, M.; Sorvala, S.; Teye, F.; Granstedt, A..
The Biodynamic Research Institute in Järna developed a two-phase on-farm biogas plant. The plant digests manure of dairy cattle and organic residues originating from the farm and the surrounding food processing units containing 17.7-19.6 % total solids. A new technology for continuously filling and discharging the hydrolysis reactor was developed and implemented. The output of the hydrolysis reactor is separated into a solid and liquid fraction. The solid fraction is composted. The liquid fraction is further digested in a methane reactor and the effluent used as liquid fertiliser. Initial results show that anaerobic digestion followed by aerobic composting of the solid fraction improves the nutrient balance of the farm compared to mere aerobic composting....

Effects of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) on yield, growth and nutrient contents in organically growing raspberry Organic Eprints
Orhan, Emine; Esitken, Ahmet; Ercisli, Sezai; Turan, Metin; Sahin, Fikrettin.
During 2003 and 2005, plant growth promoting effects of two Bacillus strains OSU-142 (N2-fixing) and M3 (N2-fixing and phosphate solubilizing) were tested alone or in combinations on organically grown primocane fruiting raspberry (cv. Heritage) plants in terms of yield, growth, nutrient composition of leaves and variation of soil nutrient element composition in the province of Erzurum, Turkey. The results showed that Bacillus M3 treatment stimulated plant growth and resulted in significant yield increase. Inoculation of raspberry plant roots and rhizosphere with M3 and/or OSU-142 + M3, significantly increased yield (33.9% and 74.9%), cane length (13.6% and 15.0%), number of cluster per cane (25.4% and 28.7%) and number of berries per cane (25.1% and...

Projektet...

CAUSES OF SOIL MALFUNCTIONING IN DEGRADED AREAS OF EUROPEAN AND TURKISH VINEYARDS Organic Eprints
Costantini, E.A.C.; Priori, S.; Giffard, B.; Fulchin, E.; Tardaguila, J.; Schroers, H.J.; Pelengic, R.; Akca, E.; Tangolar, S.; Valboa, G..
A study was carried out in nineteen vineyards of five countries, well representative of major viticultural districts, which showed areas with fertility problems, consequence of strong soil erosion occurred during either pre-planting or ordinary cultivation. The comparison between degraded and non-degraded areas highlighted that the soil features limiting water nutrition and enhancing potential water stress were the most frequent discriminant soil conditions. Low nitrogen availability was the second most important cause of soil malfunctioning, together with low organic matter content. The degradation was also reflected in the very low values of the C/N ratio, pointing to a difficulty of microbiota in synthetizing humus. Other limiting factor were excessive...

Nitrogen balances in Dutch organic greenhouse production Organic Eprints
Cuijpers, Ir. W.J.M.; van der Burgt, Ir. G.J.H.M.; Voogt, Dr. W..
The organic greenhouse production in the Netherlands is limited with regard to the number of growers, but plays an important role in EU organic greenhouse production. In the high-technology greenhouses a high production level is realized but nitrogen balances of this production system have been questioned. In order to document and improve the nitrogen balance, the production of seven greenhouses was monitored and soils were repeatedly analysed. The model “Bemestingsrichtlijn biologische kasteelten” (Fertilization Guide Organic Greenhouse Production) has been developed to simulate nitrogen availability and to fine-tune manure applications to crop demand. In the course of four years the overall nitrogen surpluses decreased sharply, but due to the...

Influence of Agricultural Service Crops on the fluctuations of the soil mineral composition Organic Eprints
Lepse, Liga; Jansone, Inga.
Usage of organic fertilizers and agricultural service crops (ASC) are the main tools to ensure soil fertility to obtain high quality organic vegetables. The most popular used ASCs are green manure, catch-crop, and living mulch. Efficiency of ASC crops under Latvia agro-ecological conditions for vegetable growing has not been investigated till now. Field trials where established in the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Economics during the season of 2015/2016 in Dižstende, Latvia with the aim to clarify the influence of ASC application on cabbage and onion crops yield and compare with traditional soil management systems: (i) green manure - in which ASC biomass of winter rye (Secale cereale L.) and winter rape (Brassica napus L.) was incorporated in...

Ashes for organic farming Organic Eprints
Kousa, T.; Heinonen, M.; Suoniitty, T.; Peltonen, K..
Nowadays only eight percent of the cultivated field area is used for organic farming. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has published the guidelines for the program of organic farming to diversify the supply and the consumption of organic food. The aim is to increase organically arable land to 20% by the year 2020.The demand of organic fertilizer products is strongly increasing. Interest in forestry by-products (ash, bark, zero fiber, etc.) for use in organic production has recently been exceptionally high. For example, development of pelleted fertilizers with zero fiber, ash and a nitrogen-containing fertilizer material is in progress. The ash fertilizer contains many valuable nutrients in fairly optimal ratios: these include phosphorus, potassium,...

Rapid Monitoring of Organic Foliar Fertilizer Treatments on Organic Spelt by a Portable SPAD Meter and Field Spectroscopy Organic Eprints
Drexler, Dora; Hegedus, Boglarka; Gyuricza, Csaba; Sardi, Katalin; Jung, Andras; Vohland, Michael.
Remote sensing techniques are widely used for farming applications but are less widespread in the organic sector. This technique offers great perspective for organic farms as field scale spectroscopy could provide rapid monitoring of nutrient imbalances or stresses and the efficiency of organic foliar fertilizer treatments. One of our objectives is to decrease time and budget currently needed for destructive chemical analysis and increase the accuracy of on-site and quasi-real-time analysis of major constitutes.

The use of computer modelling to evaluate the agronomic, economic and environmental impacts of N management in contrasting organic rotations Organic Eprints
Rayns, Francis; Schmutz, Ulrich; Firth, Chris; Thorup-Kristensen, Kristian; Zhang, Kefeng; Rahn, Clive.
A new computer model (EU-ROTATE_N) has been developed with the aim of improving nitrogen management on all farms across Europe which include fi eld vegetables in their rotations. It brings together aspects of many existing models and contains a number of features to make it applicable to organic producers (e.g. taking account of nitrogen fixation by legume containing leys, nitrogen conservation by winter cover crops and nitrogen supply by manures and composts). A key feature is the model’s ability to simulate economic output and this enables it to be of value to policy makers when considering the impact of new measures to reduce environmental pollution. This paper describes the model and some initial work that has been conducted to evaluate it under UK...
