The paper refers a field day arranged in stange, Hedmark in July 2016 to learn about cereal breeding with the national breeding company, Graminor, which also has an interest to breed varieties for organic growing. Increased interest is also found for varieties with high qualities for food consumption, such as higher contents of micro minerals, where old varieties often have higher contents than modern varieties. Breeding for high gluten contents to produce high loafs is controversial and some blame modern varieties for contributing to the increased intolerance for industrial cereal products.

Evaluierung von Genressourcen von weißer Lupine zur Verbesserung der Resistenz gegen den Anthraknose - Pilz zur züchterischen Entwicklung von hochwertigen Eiweißpflanzen für die menschliche und tierische Ernährung mit Eignung für den Anbau im ökologischen Landbau Organic Eprints
Im Projekt zur Evaluierung von Genbanklinien von Lupinus albus L. konnte gezeigt werden, dass Variabilität in der natürlichen genetischen Resistenz gegen den pilzlichen Erreger der Anthraknose (Colletotrichum lupini) vorhanden ist. Acht Prüfstämme (BGRC-3931, LUP 2029, BGRC-3920, LUP 210, LUP B 1097, BGRC-3907, LUP 2042, BGRC-3907, LUP 2042, BGRC-3969) zeigten in zwei Untersuchungsjahren eine deutlich bessere Resistenz als der Durchschnitt. Der Stamm mit der besten Resistenz (BGRC-3931) zeigte im zweijährigen Durchschnitt etwa 25 Prozent der Anfälligkeit der anfälligsten Sorte.

Agronomic characteristics of the spring forms of the wheat landraces (einkorn, emmer, spelt, intermediate bread wheat) grown in organic farming Organic Eprints

Organic farmers look to the possibilities of growing neglected crops, such as the spring forms of hulled wheat – einkorn, emmer and spelt – for support in developing the organic farming system. In 2008, 169 landraces from the gene bank at the Crop Research Institute in Prague were tested on certifi ed organic plots. The experiment was aimed at fi nding suitable varieties for the organic farming system. In summary, our fi ndings show that einkorn (Triticum monococcum L.) and emmer wheat [Triticum dicoccum Schrank (Schuebl)] are resistant to powdery mildew and brown rust, spelt wheat (Triticum spelta L.) is less resistant to these two diseases, and the intermediate forms of bread wheat are very sensitive to such infestation. The aim of the project is to use an ecological approach to analyse the interactions of a range of key agronomic variables in organic wheat production (wheat genotype, spatial arrangement of seed, seed density and wheat/white clover bi-cropping) to determine an optimal approach to improved and stabilised production. The fi rst set of data revealed that seedling competition was infl uenced by seed rate and drilling arrangement. Furthermore, the variety Hereward had increased emergence and establishment to Aristos. Aufgeführt sind die Sorten, die sich in der Biosortenprüfung von Agroscope FAL Reckenholz und in den Praxisversuchen des FiBL und der kantonalen Biofachstellen bewährt haben und in der Empfohlenen Sortenliste 2011 (swissgranum, FAL, RAC) und/oder im Nationalen Sortenkatalog aufgeführt sind. Im Vergleich zum konventionellen Landbau müssen die regionalen Unterschiede von Klima und Bodenbeschaffenheit im ökologischen Landbau mehr berücksichtigt werden. Eine eigene Züchtung für diese Vielfalt der Anbaubedingungen war nicht nur notwendig, weil der Züchtungsfortschritt im konventionellen Landbau immer weniger den Bedürfnissen im ökologischen Landbau entspricht, sondern auch, weil die neueren Züchtungsmethoden – bis hin zur Gentechnik – nicht mit dessen Prinzipien vereinbar sind. European bird cherry, as a varietive, tolerant and ornamental wild species, is able to contribute to the biodiversity of rural and urban ecosystems in Nordic countries. Therefore field studies to select the best origins for landscape horticulture are recommended. The analyses of the leaf chemical profiles of different varieties would further enlighten the taxonomy and the insect resistance (parasite-assisted or stress-mediated) of this valuable woody species.

Die Verfügbarkeit von ökologisch vermehrtem Saatgut bzw. die Sortenauswahl wird insbesondere bei Gemüse als unzureichend eingestuft. Die verwendeten Sorten sind bei vielen Gemüsekulturen zum überwiegenden Teil Hybriden, die für eine /On-farm/-Erhaltung ungeeignet sind oder im Falle von aus Zellfusion (Protoplasten- oder Cytoplastenfusion) stammenden CMS-Hybriden nicht mehr fertil und auf Betrieben der Ökolandbauverbände per Richtlinie verboten sind. Diese beiden Aspekte der Saatgutfrage waren maßgebend für den Start dieses Projektes. Sorten und Saatgut für den ökologischen Landbau Organic Eprints

Bei der Diskussion um den ökologischen Landbau entsteht häufig der Eindruck, dass die bisher geprüften und zugelassenen Sorten für den ökologischen Landbau nicht geeignet sind. Aus diesem Grunde hat das Bundessortenamt in Versuchsserien zugelassene Sorten geprüft, sowohl auf konventionell bewirtschafteten Flächen als auch auf ökologisch bewirtschafteten Flächen. Ein Vergleich der Versuchsergebnisse zeigt, dass sich die Sorten in den unterschiedlichen Nutzungsweisen ähnlich verhalten, d. h. die Sortenrelationen bleiben gleich. The Critical Point of Conventionally Bred Soft Wheat Varieties in Organic Farming Systems Organic Eprints

Nowdays, wheat is the most important crop for organic farming system. However, the varieties breeded and tested in the conditions of organic farming system are still missing. It gives rise to very low level of yield in the Czech Republic (less than 50% of level of convention one in the same conditions). One of the reasons is that the ideotype of organic breeded variety is different from conventional one. The varieties suitable for organic farming system differ in many respects from those adopted in conventional farming.
