Essais d'amélioration de la qualité des huîtres creuses, Crassostrea gigas, en milieu naturel (claires) ArchiMer

Depuis l'extension de la culture de Crassostrea gigas, la qualité de ces huîtres creuses apparaît très variable au moment de leur commercialisation en fin d'année. En vue d'essayer d'améliorer la qualité de ces bivalves, nous nous sommes efforcés de comparer simultanément l'influence de différents apports nutritifs sur des huîtres provenant d'un lot homogène, mises à l'affinage en claires : bassins creusés dans des terrains plats et argileux, dont l'alimentation en eau de mer se fait à certains coefficients de marée. Les anciens marais-salants de la région de Marennes-Oléron, aujourd'hui presque tous désaffectés, ont été pour la plupart transformés en claires à huîtres

Observations sur la résistance d'huîtres du genre Crassostrea au cours de la mortalité massive de 1970-1971 dans le bassin de Marennes-Oléron ArchiMer

Depuis plusieurs années on a constaté une baisse sensible de la productivité dans l'exploitation des parcs et claires à huîtres du bassin de Marennes-Oléron. En outre l'huître portugaise (Crassostrea angulata Lmk) élevée dans cette zone ostréicole devait subir en 1966 et 1967 les effets de la maladie des branchies qui entraîna des pertes appréciables (Franc & Arvy, 1970). Au cours de l'été 1970, parallèlement à des perturbations dans la reproduction, s'amorça une mortalité massive qui au printemps 1971 affectait environ 70% du cheptel.

Bilan des connaissance et des enjeux relatifs aux ressources marines de l'estuaire de l'Odet ArchiMer

The estuary of the Odet, which can be defined as a ria, is an integral part of SAGE, taken on by SIVALODET. This space was hardly studied and it seemed important to perform a full assessment of knowledge and issues relating to this ria's fragile and unstable ecosystem. This assessment must be performed according to several points of focus; it must first of all strive to retrace the history of the fisheries in the Odet, then make it possible to identify as clearly as possible the marine habitats that make up this site. With that, it must then bring to light the potential resources of the estuary and finally resituate the Odet in relation to the other Breton estuaries.

Il y a un siècle, le savant naturaliste COSTE concevait les principes d'une technique ostréicole complète et/en faisant la démonstration pratique. Né en 1807 à Castries (Hérault), mort en 1873, Jean Coste entra à l'Académie des Sciences en 1851. Il fut également membre de l'Académie de Médicine et professeur au Muséum puis au Collège de France; il fonda le laboratoire de zoologie et physiologie maritimes de Concarneau et en fut le premier directeur. En 1892, il se vit confier la charge d'inspecteur général de la pêche fluviale et de la pêche côtière maritime. The interest for the understanding of the immune mechanisms in the oyster, Crassotrea gigas has been considerably increased these last years, mainly because of economie losses due to diseases which affected the continuity of this species. The studies of these mechanisms contributes to a better understanding of the differential susceptibilities observed in this species against various pathogens. Viral particles, associated with high mortality rates, have been reported among larvae and juveniles in different marine bivalve specie and characterized as member of the Hespesviridae family. Most studies focused on the detection of such viral infections among economically important species. However, the persistence of bivalve herpes viruses in marine environment is poorly documented. This topic appears as an important research domain in order to clarify the natural infection cycle of the herpesvirus of marine bivalves.

This study (“Risco”), implicating both industry, socio-economic experts and biologists, was funded by the Regional Council of Brittany, for 3 years (2010-2012), to investigate about the causes of oysters (Crassostrea gigas) mortalities in the bay of Quiberon (South Brittany, France). The protocol including both a sonar and video visualization of the bottom, and a monthly survey of 15 experimental oyster structures, allowed to assess the risk due to predation. A clear spatial distribution of the predatory effect was evidenced, with starfish (Asterias rubens and Marthasterias glacialis) predominating in the North-East sector, and boring snails (Ocenebra erinacea and Pterophora inornata) in the South-Center area.. Impact du sédiment sur les mortalités estivales de naissain d'huîtres creuses Crassostrea gigas en baie de Quiberon ArchiMer

The phenomenon of summer mortalities of the Pacific cupped oyster Crassostrea gigas is observed in France since the beginning of the 90's. These mortalities are classically associated to younger stages and summer temperatures and occur during the reproduction period of the animal. The studies undertaken during the project Morest (2001-2005), showed that a number of biological and environmental risks, the interaction of them induces lethal stresses for animals in physiological weakness, exists in summer. Among these risks, that which is withstood by the oysters bred close to the sediment proved to be significant in intertidal areas.
