A synopsis of the Pterophoridae (Lepidoptera) of the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador Naturalis
Landry, B.; Gielis, C..
The habitus and genitalia are illustrated for the twelve species of Pterophoridae known from the Galápagos Islands (Ecuador). The status of one species is discussed, as it may be the unknown female of Postplatyptilia minima spec. nov. Five species are described as new: Postplatyptilia huigraica, P. minima, Platyptilia nigroapicalis, Oidaematophorus cristobalis and O. devriesi. Redescriptions and/or diagnoses are given for the other seven species. Lectotypes are designated for Pterophorus nephogenes Meyrick and Platyptilia brevipennis Zeller. A key based on adult external features is provided. Four species were found to be possibly endemic to the archipelago. New foodplant records are given for two species.

Diopsis (Diopsidae, Diptera) with unusual wing spots: two new species from Malawi with a longer eye span in females than in males Naturalis
Feijen, H.R.; Feijen, C..
Diopsis malawiensis spec. nov. and D. vanbruggeni spec. nov. are described from Malawi. Subgeneric grouping of Diopsis Linnaeus, 1775, is briefly discussed, but the genus awaits revision. A redescription is given of Diopsis micronotata Brunett i, 1926, from the D.R. of Congo, as this species might be confused with D. vanbruggeni. The two new species and D. micronotata are closely related and are tentatively placed in the absens Brunett i group. Diopsis surcoufi Séguy, 1955, from Mozambique and Tanzania, is redescribed because of its superficial resemblance to D. malawiensis. All four species are characterised by tiny, but distinct, apical or subapical wing spots. In D. malawiensis, D. micronotata and D. vanbruggeni, eye span is, in absolute and relative...

Three new species of the genus Adelophryne (Amphibia: Anura: Leptodactylidae) from northeastern Brazil, with remarks on the other species of the genus Naturalis
Hoogmoed, M.S.; Borges, D.M.; Cascon, P..
In the present paper three new species of the genus Adelophryne from the coastal Atlantic forest in Brazil are described. The species are separated from the two species formerly known from the Amazon forest by caatinga vegetation and a distance of at least 1600 km. A. pachydactylus from Bahia has a reduced number of phalanges in the fourth finger, and large subdigital pads under fingers and toes. A. baturitensis has distinct subarticular tubercles under the toes and a relatively large size. A. maranguapensis has large discs on fingers and toes and is boldly patterned. During fieldwork in Amapá two specimens of A. gutturosa were collected and based on them additional data are provided and some concepts from the original description are revised. Literature...

Doesburg, P.H. van; Cassis, G.; Monteith, G.B..
A new species belonging to the genus Proxylastodoris Heiss & Popov, 2002, P. kuscheli spec. nov., of the subfamily Xylastodorinae Barber, 1920 (Heteroptera: Thaumastocoridae) is described from New Caledonia. It is the first recent record outside the western Hemisphere of the Xyalstodorinae and is the largest known member of the family Thaumastocoridae. The new species was collected on inflorescences of the native New Caledonian palm species Burretiokentia vieillardii (Brongn. & Gris) Pichi-Serm. The habitat, collecting methods, host plant and biology of the new species are described. The biogeography of the Thaumastocoridae and Xylastodorinae is discussed and suggestions for further research are proposed. This discovery is characterised as the...

Peristenus varisae spec. nov. (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) parasitizing the European tarnished plant bug, Lygus rugulipennis Poppius (Heteroptera: Miridae) Naturalis
Varis, A.-L.; Achterberg, C. van.
Nymphs and adults of Lygus species, mainly L. rugulipennis Poppius were collected from wheat fields in southern Finland, near Helsinki. The parasitization rate of braconid species was determined by dissection of the hosts. Parasitoids were reared from separate samples from the same fields. The parasitization rate was low, the maximum percentage occurring during the season, examined in 10-day periods, was 14%. All nymphal instars, except the first one, were found to be parasitized; the mean varied from 3% (third instar) to 6.5% (fourth instar). In adult hosts the mean parasitization rate was 2% in males and 4% in females. The percentage of parasitization in both nymphs and adults was higher in wheat bordering fields with a mixture of field bean and oats or...
