Economic aspects of production of Caiman crocodilus yacare Anais da ABC (AABC)
Carreira,Laura B.T.; Sabbag,Omar J..
The breeding of crocodilians is still a recent activity in Brazil. Its peak was in the 1990's, but it has gaps in its production, as there are no norms for the commercial breeding of these animals in captivity. However, its economic potential is great, and the search for ecological balance and viability of commercial production has become a challenge among farmers of this activity. Therefor, the objective of the study was to economically analyze the production of Caiman crocodilus yacareon a farm located in Caceres, state of Mato Grosso, identifying relevant items of costs in the activity, as well as the parameters related to the profitability and viability of the activity. The economic results for the breeding of this animal were positive, with...

Bovine meat and bone meal is an economically viable alternative in quail feeding in the initial phase Anais da ABC (AABC)
Pizzolante,Carla C.; Kakimoto,Sérgio K.; Moraes,José E.; Saccomani,Ana Paula O.; Soares,Daniela F.; Paschoalin,Gustavo C.; Budiño,Fábio E.L..
Quail egg production has experienced a steep rise in the last decade. Nutrition is the main factor affecting productive potential in the poultry industry, as appropriate nutritional management is necessary to ensure the maintenance of optimal physical conditions, growth and the production of high quality products. Meat and bone meal (MBM) has often been used in the poultry industry as an alternative and cost-effective source of protein in partial replacement of corn and soybean meal. However, there have been no studies to date that have investigated the effect of dietary MBM on the performance of quail or on the costs of production in the starter phase. This is particularly important considering that this phase is characterized by large investments by...

Modelling and Optimisation of Stabilisation Ponds System for the Treatment of Swine Wastes: organic Matter Evaluation BABT

Economic impact of treatment for surgical site infections in cases of total knee arthroplasty in a tertiary public hospital in Brazil BJID
Dal-Paz,Karine; Oliveira,Priscila RD; Paula,Adriana P de; Emerick,Maria Cristina da S; Pécora,José Ricardo; Lima,Ana Lucia LM.
The aim of this study was to estimate the additional cost of treatment of a group of nosocomial infections in a tertiary public hospital. A retrospective observational cohort study was conducted by means of analyzing the medical records of 34 patients with infection after total knee arthroplasty, diagnosed in 2006 and 2007, who met the criteria for nosocomial infection according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To estimate the direct costs of treatment for these patients, the following data were gathered: length of hospital stay, laboratory tests, imaging examinations, and surgical procedures performed. Their costs were estimated from the minimum values according to the Brazilian Medical Association. The estimated cost of the antibiotics...

Clinical and economic impact of generic versus brand name meropenem use in an intensive care unit in Colombia BJID
Ordóñez,Karen; Feinstein,Max M.; Reyes,Sergio; Hernández-Gómez,Cristhian; Pallares,Christian; Villegas,María V..
Abstract Background: Recent studies suggest that sustained use of generic antibiotics may be associated with clinical failure and emergence of antibacterial resistance. The present study was designed to determine the clinical outcome between the use of generic meropenem (GM) and brand-name meropenem (BNM). Additionally, this study evaluated the economic impact of GM and BNM to determine if the former represents a cost-effective alternative to the latter. Methods: Patients treated between January 2011 and May 2014 received GM while patients treated between June 2014 and March 2017 received BNM. Mortality was compared between groups. Total infection cost was defined by the cost of antimicrobial consumption, length of stay, and laboratory and imaging exams...

The organization of Hospital Infection Control Committees and their importance in Brazil BJID
El Far,Fabiane; Marino,Cristiane G. J.; Medeiros,Eduardo Alexandrino Servolo.
The importance of Hospital Infection Control Committees (HICC) increases every year due to the emergence of multiresistant bacterial strains, hospital outbreaks, and other factors that cause HI. This demonstrates the fragility of the quality of hospital and medical care. Having a well-organized HICC benefits hospitals by improving quality, lowering costs and, most important, reducing patient morbidity and mortality. This review records the history of the development of HICCs, their present organizational structure, and offers recommendations for the best methods of infection surveillance.

A.P. Restrepo, J. Garcia-Garcia, R. Moral, F. Vidal, M.D. Pérez-Murcia, M.A. Bustamante, and C. Paredes. 2013. A comparative cost analysis for using compost derived from anaerobic digestion as a peat substitute in a commercial plant nursery. Cien. Inv. Agr. 40(2): 253-264. The aim of this study was to evaluate the economic feasibility of using compost made from anaerobically digested cattle slurries in a commercial nursery. Using a comparative cost analysis, commercial peat substrate growing media has been partially substituted with increasing proportions of compost (25, 50 and 75% v/v of compost). This experiment was intended to establish the conditions under which the use of these composts is feasible and competitive relative to commercial peat, at both...

Rezende,Lucas Alberto Teixeira de; Teixeira,Júlio César; Evangelista,Antônio Ricardo; Pérez,Juan Ramón Olalquiaga; Muniz,Joel Augusto; Gonçalves,Clenderson Corradi de Mattos.
This work was carried out to evaluate the effect of supplements based on non-protein nitrogen (NPN) as: urea, amirea and multinutritional block, on live weight gain and cost analysis for cattle kept in pastures. During a period of 104 days(April to July 2004), 40 crossbreed bulls, uncastrated and initial average weight of 379kg, were allocated into 4 paddocks with Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu, in continuous pasture system receiving, in troughs, the following treatments: mineral salt (control), protein supplement containing amirea, protein supplement containing urea and multinutritional block. The experimental design used was randomized blocks with repetition within the block. Results of availability bromatological composition of pasture, supplement...
