Remote sensing (RS) is the most widely adopted technique for crop monitoring in precision viticulture (PV).  Recent research looks at the development of proximal sensing technologies alternative to RS.  The present work considers the possible use of proximal sensing optical devices for diagnosis in vineyard; in particular, we evaluated the GreenSeeker RT100 and the Crop Circle (two commercial optical sensors) in detecting different levels of grapevine downy mildew symptoms.  The analysis was conducted on vine leaves that had been picked from plants of cv.  Cabernet Franc infected by Plasmopara viticola.  Leaves were divided into homogeneous infection classes and then analyzed through the optical devices and a portable Vis/NIR (visible/near infrared)...

Sporothrix schenckii and sporotrichosis Anais da ABC (AABC)
Lopes-Bezerra,Leila M.; Schubach,Armando; Costa,Rosane O..
For a long time sporotrichosis has been regarded to have a low incidence in Brazil; however, recent studies demonstrate that not only the number of reported cases but also the incidence of more severe or atypical clinical forms of the disease are increasing. Recent data indicate that these more severe forms occur in about 10% of patients with confirmed diagnosis. The less frequent forms, mainly osteoarticular sporotrichosis, might be associated both with patient immunodepression and zoonotic transmission of the disease. The extracutaneous form and the atypical forms are a challenge to a newly developed serological test, introduced as an auxiliary tool for the diagnosis of unusual clinical forms of sporotrichosis.

Subclinical Diabetes Anais da ABC (AABC)
LIMA,LUÍS M.T.R..
ABSTRACT Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasing in prevalence worldwide, and those non-diagnosed or misdiagnosed comprise a significant group compared to those diagnosed. Accumulated scientific evidence indicate that the current diagnostic markers (fasting glycemia, 2h glycemia after an oral glucose load and HbA1c) are indeed late diagnostic criteria when considering the incidence of diabetes-related complications and comorbidities, which are also at high risk in some groups among normoglycemic individuals. Additionally, the earlier identification of future risk of diabetes is desirable since it would allow better adherence to preventive actions such as lifestyle intervention, ultimately avoiding complications and minimizing the economic...

COSTA,VIVIANE A.N.; BRENER,BEATRIZ; FONSECA,ANA BEATRIZ M.; SUDRÉ,ADRIANA P..
ABSTRACT Giardia duodenalis is a worldwide intestinal parasite and is one of the most frequent protozoa species infecting dogs and cats. This study aimed to modify the methodology of Alere GIARDIA Ag TEST KIT for its use in frozen fecal sediments with different storage times in a freezer (-20°C), thus expanding the range of use of this methodology. One hundred fecal sediments from dogs (n=50) and cats (n=50) previously examined by optical microscopy for Giardia cysts were selected for this study. The agreement between the modified immunochromatography and microscopy results was calculated by Kappa coefficient. To evaluate the performance of the modified immunochromatography assay on samples with different storage time, the fecal sediments were divided into...

Winter dysentery in cows associated with Bovine Coronavirus (BCoV) Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Brandão,P.E.; Gregori,F.; Sforsin,A.J.; Villarreal,L.Y.B.; Jerez,J.A..

Evaluation of western blotting for the diagnosis of enzootic bovine leukemia Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Gonzalez,E.T.; Oliva,G.A.; Norimine,J.; Cid de la Paz,V.; Echeverría,M.G..
A western blotting (WB) procedure has been developed for detecting antibodies to bovine leukosis virus (BLV) in cattle sera. Two hundred and thirty three serum samples from naturally infected cattle with BLV virus and serial bleedings from experimentally BLV infected cows were used. An agar gel immunodiffusion test (AGID) was used for comparing with the results obtained by WB. The AGID positive sera showed a different degree of reactivity by WB test against the two most important viral antigens (gp51 and p24), or against one of them. Other proteins (gp30, p15, p12 and p10) were not detected with any AGID positive sera, being observed occasionally three bands corresponding to the p24 protein. Using sera obtained by BLV experimental inoculation, the...

Altered indirect hemagglutination method for easy serotyping of Haemophilus parasuis Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Lorenson,M.S.; Miani,M.; Guizzo,J.A.; Barasoul,B.; Martínez-Martínez,S.; Rodríguez-Ferri,E.F.; Gutiérrez-Martín,C.B.; Kreutz,L.C.; Frandoloso,R..
ABSTRACT Glässer's disease is an emergent bacterial disease that affects swine husbandries worldwide causing important economic losses. The aetiological agent, Haemophilus parasuis, is currently divided in fifteen serovars but an increasing number of non-typeable serovars have been reported. Indirect hemagglutination (IHA) is indicated as a serotyping method for H. parasuis. In the present study, we describe an additional step that aims to work around a possible obstacle in the original protocol that may compromise the outcome of this assay. We observed that the choice of anticoagulant for blood collection influences and/or impairs spontaneous adsorption of H. parasuis antigens on sheep red blood cells (SRBCs). However, regardless of the anticoagulant...
