Evaluation of a simplified model for estimating energy balance in broilers production housing AGRIAMBI
Silva,Mariano P.; Baêta,Fernando C.; Tinôco,Ilda F. F.; Zolnier,Sérgio; Ribeiro,Aristides.
The simulation of poultry house thermal behavior with and without Adiabatic Evaporative Cooling (SRAE) allows the decision makers to evaluate the economical feasibility and the installation costs of a poultry production business. The first step in this research investigation was test the thermal behavior model developed by Gates et al. (1995) for broiler houses in the United States based on the hypothesis that this model, using climatized sheds, as proposed by the authors, could be used under Brazilian conditions. The model is suitable for the proposed objective in the form proposed by Gates et al. (1995) for poultry houses with an elevated mass air flow rate (120.8 kg air s-1 or higher). A correction factor referring to a series of heat sources not...

Kinetics of transit and degradation of the fiber from guinea grass silages enriched with waste from soybean pre-cleaning R. Bras. Zootec.
Fialho,Filipe Ton; Villela,Severino Delmar Junqueira; Leonel,Fernando de Paula; Tamy,Wagner Pessanha; Araujo,Raphael Pavesi; Machado,Henrique Valentim Nunes.
The objective was to study the kinetics of transit and degradation of the fiber from guinea grass and the waste from soybean pre-cleaning (WSPC), ensiled with different proportions of mass (0, 100, 150, and 200 g WSPC/kg total mass). Four crossbred (Gyr × Holstein), fistulated cattle with an average body mass of 400±50 kg were organized in a 4 × 4 Latin square experimental design. The fiber utilized in the study of the transit kinetics was stained with chromium mordant, whereas the in situ technique was adopted for the degradation kinetics. The level of inclusion of WSPC only affected the true digestibility and the mean retention time. The addition of waste from soybean pre-cleaning to the silage of guinea grass is beneficial, in terms of kinetics of...

Energetic efficiency of protein and body fat retention in crossbred Bos indicus and Bos Taurus × Bos indicus raised under tropical conditions R. Bras. Zootec.
Henrique,Douglas Sampaio; Queiroz,César de; Vieira,Ricardo Augusto Mendonça; Botelho,Mosar Faria.
The efficiency of fat and protein retention by Bos indicus and its cross-breds was estimated from data obtained in the literature to verify possible differences between these animals and Bos taurus. After estimating the efficiencies, a correction factor was used to discount the metabolizable energy fraction that was spent in the maintenance and support metabolism processes. The efficiencies were then estimated again, assuming that all the remaining energy would correspond to the metabolizable energy available for body mass retention. The correction value used was considered satisfactory to discount energetic losses for maintenance and support. The efficiency values of partial body fat and protein retention in Bos indicus and its cross-bred were very...

Ability of non-linear mixed models to predict growth in laying hens R. Bras. Zootec.
Galeano-Vasco,Luis Fernando; Cerón-Muñoz,Mario Fernando; Narváez-Solarte,William.
In this study, the Von Bertalanffy, Richards, Gompertz, Brody, and Logistics non-linear mixed regression models were compared for their ability to estimate the growth curve in commercial laying hens. Data were obtained from 100 Lohmann LSL layers. The animals were identified and then weighed weekly from day 20 after hatch until they were 553 days of age. All the nonlinear models used were transformed into mixed models by the inclusion of random parameters. Accuracy of the models was determined by the Akaike and Bayesian information criteria (AIC and BIC, respectively), and the correlation values. According to AIC, BIC, and correlation values, the best fit for modeling the growth curve of the birds was obtained with Gompertz, followed by Richards, and then...

Ellery,Everardo Ayres Correia; Watanabe,Pedro Henrique; Bertol,Teresinha Marisa; Freitas,Ednardo Rodrigues; Nascimento,Germano Augusto Jerônimo.
ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to determine and validate prediction equations for digestible (DE) and metabolizable energy (ME) of soybean meal for growing pigs. The prediction equations were developed using data from chemical composition, digestibility and metabolizability of soybean meal samples (n = 25) evaluated in essays at Embrapa Suínos e Aves. The equations were estimated through regression analysis, using the REG procedure of SAS and adjusted R² was the criterion of choice to select the best models. Two equations were estimated for DE and two for ME. To validate the equations, one experiment with two essays was performed to determine the values of DE and ME of five samples of soybean meal. In each essay, 24 growing pigs with an initial weight...

MATHEMATICAL MODELS IN CROP PROTECTION Rev. Protección Veg.
Levins,Richard; Miranda,Ileana.
In the present work, the models of dynamics ecological populations were described. The development of the models, in order to describe these populations was presented. They have evolved from an independent way to the models that represent the evaluation of epidemiology in humans. The differential equations that describe the relationships prey-predator, crop-pest and migration effect were shown. It was also described the possibility to represent these models by means of equations in difference and computerized simulation systems. The interconnection between a mathematical model and the ecosystem stability according to the biological parameters was showed. Ecological questions that can be answered analyzing the models were approached.

The objective of this work was to study and model the drying process of corn ears at different air temperatures. Thermodynamic properties associated with the drying process of this product were also determined. Corn ears with initial moisture content of 0.45 dry basis (kgw kgdm-1) were dried until they reached a final moisture content of 0.12 (kgw kgdm-1) at temperatures of 45, 55 and 65°C. Traditional models used to describe the drying process of several agricultural products were employed to fit the observed data of the drying process of corn ears. The effective diffusion coefficient (Def) was determined by means of an analytical solution of Fick’s second law. It was concluded that the Logarithmic model was the one that best fit the observed data...

Mathematical models of geometric sizes of coffee beans as dependent random variables CIGR Journal
Sheremeta, Roman; Kuzminskyj, Roman.
Dimensions of 100 randomly selected coffee beans of the Arabica and Robusta variety were determined by measuring their length (l), width (b) and thickness (h). The results of the measurements were processed by the methods of mathematical statistics. Parameters of distributions of separate sizes as random variables are determined. By the value of the coefficient of variation, the density function of normal distribution (Gaussian distribution) is taken as a model of separate sizes of beans. Models of two-dimensional distributions of beans sizes as independent random variables are presented. The coefficients of correlation between the geometric sizes of beans are calculated. The obtained values of the correlation coefficients indicate that the geometric sizes...

FERNANDES,FRANCISCO S.; GODOY,WESLEY A.C.; RAMALHO,FRANCISCO S.; GARCIA,ADRIANO G.; SANTOS,BÁRBARA D.B.; MALAQUIAS,JOSÉ B..
ABSTRACT Population dynamics of aphids have been studied in sole and intercropping systems. These studies have required the use of more precise analytical tools in order to better understand patterns in quantitative data. Mathematical models are among the most important tools to explain the dynamics of insect populations. This study investigated the population dynamics of aphids Aphis gossypii and Aphis craccivora over time, using mathematical models composed of a set of differential equations as a helpful analytical tool to understand the population dynamics of aphids in arrangements of cotton and cowpea. The treatments were sole cotton, sole cowpea, and three arrangements of cotton intercropped with cowpea (t1, t2 and t3). The plants were infested with...

Modelling the steady state and dynamic conditions of a biotrickling filter treating styrene and acetone in air BABT
Gerrard,Andrew Mark; Havranek,Josef; Novak,Vratislav; Halecky,Martin; Jones,Kim; Soccol,Carlos Ricardo; Paca,Jan.
The aim of this work was the study a trickling biofilter, where water was circulated throughout the bed. In the first steady state experiment, the packing materials used were 25mm Pall rings. The airflow rate was increased gradually and the concentration of styrene in the air stream was held constant. In the second experiment, 15mm Pall rings were used. In this case, the feed contained both styrene and a small amount of acetone. The concentration of acetone and the air flow rate were kept constant, but the styrene inlet concentration was increased. The concentrations were measured at the input, and also at an intermediate and the outlet position in the biotrickling filter to determine the concentration profile along the reactor. Using the values of...

Prediction of soil organic matter and clay contents by near-infrared spectroscopy - NIRS Ciência Rural
Lazzaretti,Bruno Pedro; Silva,Leandro Souza da; Drescher,Gerson Laerson; Dotto,André Carnieletto; Britzke,Darines; Nörnberg,José Laerte.
ABSTRACT: Among the soil constituents, special attention is given to soil organic matter (SOM) and clay contents, since, among other aspects, they are key factors to nutrient retention and soil aggregates formation, which directly affect the crop production potential. The methods commonly used for the quantification of these constituents have some disadvantages, such as the use of chemical reactants and waste generation. An alternative to these methods is the near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) technique. The aim of this research is to evaluate models for SOM and clay quantification in soil samples using spectral data by NIRS. A set (n = 400) of soil samples previously analyzed by traditional methods were used to generate a NIRS calibration curve. The clay...

Hygroscopic behaviour of cassava flour from dry and water groups Ciência Rural
Chisté,Renan Campos; Cardoso,Jonnahta Monteiro; Silva,Diego Aires da; Pena,Rosinelson da Silva.
Cassava flour from dry and water groups are important starch products widely consumed in the Amazonian region of Brazil. In this study, the moisture sorption isotherms of cassava flour from dry and water groups were obtained in the water activity (aw) range from 0.09 to 0.94 (dry group) and 0.07 to 0.93 (water group) at 25°C and the applicability of eight mathematical models in data prediction was evaluated. Both cassava flour from dry and water groups exhibited type II isotherms (sigmoid) and the hysteresis effect between adsorption and desorption isotherms was shown almost over the entire range of aw. The moisture of cassava flour from dry and water groups should not exceed 11.3g H2O 100g-1(aw=0.6) to ensure the theoretical microbiological stability and...
