Factors affecting the performance of Pantaneiro horses R. Bras. Zootec.
Souza,Geraldo da Silva e; Gomes,Eliane Gonçalves; Santos,Sandra Aparecida; Rezende,Adalgiza Souza Carneiro de; Andrade,Débora Roque de Freitas; Nogueira,Márcia Furlan; Trigo,Pablo; Abreu,Urbano Gomes Pinto de.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to assess the physical performance of Pantaneiro horses with and without equine infectious anemia (EIA) under functional conditions of cattle management. The horses were subjected to a performance test and split into two groups according to a completely randomized design: animals were chosen from populations testing positive and negative for EIA. Performance was measured as a function of a data envelopment analysis (DEA) model considering four outputs and one unitary input. The output measures were the distance achieved in the performance test, hematocrit as a weighted average over the test duration, respiratory rate as weighted average over the test duration, and the level of lactic acid at the test termination. Weights for the...

Visual assessment of pasture degradation: validation by ground cover and seasonal variation Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Monteiro,Edevaldo de Castro; Burak,Diego Lang; Cunha,Alexson de Mello; Passos,Renato Ribeiro; Mendonça,Eduardo de Sá.
ABSTRACT Visual assessments of pasture degradation levels are widespread because they are rapid, practical and inexpensive. However, they can be subjective, making it difficult to distinguish between degradation levels to establish management practices. This fact, in association with the lack of standardization of the number of levels and the assessment periods, suggests a need for further studies. The objective of this study was to evaluate the relation between the degradation levels of visually evaluated pastures and the soil cover measured in fields in summer and winter. Percentages of Brachiaria grass, bare soil, spontaneous vegetation (broad and narrow leaf) and mulch were evaluated in 35 areas with different levels of visual degradation. Canonical...

Heterozygosity level and its relationship with genetic variability mechanisms in beans Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Melo,Rita Carolina de; Trevisani,Nicole; Pereira,Thayse Cristine Vieira; Guidolin,Altamir Frederico; Coimbra,Jefferson Luís Meirelles.
ABSTRACT Heterozygosity is an extremely important resource in early breeding programs using autogamous plants because it is usually associated with the presence of genetic variability. Induced mutation and artificial hybridization can increase distinctly the proportion of loci in heterozygosis. This study aimed to compare segregating and mutant populations and relate the mechanisms used to generate variability with their respective heterozygosity levels tested. The treatments mutant populations (M2, M3, M4, M5, M6 and M7), segregating populations (F4, F5 and F6) and lines (BRS Pérola and IPR Uirapuru) were evaluated by multivariate analysis and compared by orthogonal contrasts. The canonical discriminant analysis revealed which response variables...

Alternative for the evaluation of coffee seedlings using Fisher's discriminant analysis Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Campos,Katia Alves; Morais,Augusto Ramalho de; Paixão,Crysttian Arantes.
ABSTRACT One of the applications of Fisher's linear discriminant function (FDF) is its use in transforming multivariate data into a new univariate variable. This then makes possible a new option for the variance analysis of multivariate data, in addition to the multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). The aim of this work was to select groups of seven characteristics of quality in coffee seedlings using six criteria for selection, to use the FDF to transform such groupings of characteristics into a new variable, and then to compare interpretation of the results obtained from the univariate and multivariate analyses of variance of the characteristics and this new variable, with a view to its use in evaluating coffee seedlings. A randomised block design...
