| Le but de cette mission, demandée par la Préfecture du Département, était d'étudier les possibilités d'un développement de la conchyliculture sur le littoral de l'Ile. Il convenait de faire l'inventaire des ressources naturelles en huîtres et moules comestibles pouvant permettre le développement d'une ostréiculture et d'une mytiliculture analogues à celles qui existent en métropole. Dans le cas où il n'y aurait pas de gisements naturels exploitables, la mise en élevage de jeunes huîtres et moules importées à partir de pays producteurs devait être envisagée. |

| While only 4 species were known for the family Nannastacidae in West Africa, a recent study has revealed 11 more species - Procampylaspis maurini, P. arguini, P.thalassae, Cumella africana, Schizotrema atlantica, Campylaspis macrophthalma, C. mauritanica, C. bonetti, C. legendrei africana, C. jonesi. Of these, S. atlantica and the last 4 Campylaspis species are new species, and are described. Both male and female adults are described, with explanatory diagrams, and additional observations are included. The species of Campylaspis are incorporated modified form. It is thought that this description completes not only acquaintance with the fauna of the Saharian section of the Atlantic, but also the whole of the Atlantic Ocean. |

| Sleep (1971) has presented some very interesting observations on the exponential decrease of the subsidence rate in coastal basins. He shows that the time constant of this exponential decrease is of the same order of magnitude that the thermal time constant of a lithospheric plate. He then makes calculations with a physical model combining erosion and thermal contraction. | Introduction: Measuring the chemical oxygen demand (COD) is a way of determining the organic matter in water based on its oxidisibility by bichromate. The presence of organic matter in sea water is one of the factors that determines the productivity of the oceans: whether this organic matter will be absorbed directly or must first be transformed into nutritive substances by bacteria. This beneficial action also has its limits. On the one hand, consumption of organic matter remains limited; when it exceeds a certain rate, there is no longer any increase in productivity. | Mature eggs were expressed from captured female and fertilised artificially with slightly bloody sperm, in dry conditions or in a humid atmosphere, both at 13 degree C. The best incubation conditions proved to be 13 degree C, with streptomycin and penicillin. Another sample was kept at 18 degree C. Hatching occurred after 4 or 5 days, larvae showing positive phototropism. The system of renewal of water and artificial food is described. The embryonic reserve drop of lipid disappeared between day 14 and 16. | The anatomy of the masticatory part of the mandible (the pars molaris) has been studied throughout the moult/intermoult cycle in some peracacarid crustacean species, by scanning electron microscopy. Species examined were: Ligia oceanica, Sphaeroma serratum, Idotea balthica, Talitrus saltator, Hyale nilssoni, Gammarid amphipoda and the mysid Pranus flexuosus. Feeding is known to decline near moulting; this may be because the chewing surfaces become loosened before moulting. Also the surfaces are worn down and useless, and feeding ceases. Very long intermoult periods, as found in old individuals, may thus cause long periods of starvation and this could enhance the symptoms of senescence. |
