La conchyliculture, et principalement l’élevage de l’huître creuse, Crassostrea gigas, constitue la principale activité aquacole française. Cette activité repose, en grande partie, sur le recrutement naturel de l’espèce qui assure 70% des besoins en jeunes huîtres (naissain) : cette activité de collecte s’appelle le captage. Les deux principaux centres de captage en France sont les bassins d’Arcachon et de Marennes-Oléron. Or, depuis une dizaine d'années, sur le bassin d'Arcachon, le captage devient très variable: à des années de captage nul (par exemple les années 2002, 2005, 2007) ou faible (2009, 2010, 2011) succèdent des années excellentes voire pléthoriques (les années 2003, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2013). Nitrogen loading to the Bassin d'Arcachon coastal lagoon (SW France) was evaluated by studying land-use and nitrogen output in its 3001 km(2) catchment. At present, the catchment is dominated by forestry (79%), while intensive agriculture occupies 9% of the surface. The N-output of two hydrological subunits, i.e. the Tagon subunit dominated by pine forestry and the Arriou 11 subunit comprising both forestry and intensive agriculture, were monitored for a seven year period (1996-2002). From these observations it was calculated that forestry contributes on average 1.6 kg total N ha(-1) yr(-1), which is dominated by organic nitrogen (DON+PON are 70% of N). This study aimed to characterize the ecology of the seagrass Zostera noltii in the Bassin d'Arcachon. These seagrasses, which belong to the family of Potamogetonaceae occupy in the Bay for about three quarters of the area of intertidal areas. Despite their large size and ecological importance, this grass never had previously be studied. This thesis deals with eelgrass populations (distribution, growth, production and recycling) and the macrofauna associated with them (spatial and temporal variation of the nature and structure of animal populations). In addition to this descriptive approach, this work has also helped to quantify the participation of seagrass beds on the balance sheet of the organic matter in the Arcachon basin. |

The consequences of a sudden decrease in water salinity on a macrophyte community dominated by the marine species Zostera noltii were investigated in a shallow coastal lagoon (Southern France). The expected change in the community assemblage was a competitive displacement of Z. noltii by Potamogeton pectinatus and Ruppia cirrhosa. However, the results of an eight-year survey did not validate this hypothesis. Zostera noltii remained dominant after three years at low salinity (ca. 5) and then suddenly disappeared within one year. The decline of Z. noltii was not associated with an increase of other species. While they had previously presented a hight stability, unlike in many coastal sites worldwide, eelgrass beds (Zostera noltii and Zostera marina) of Arcachon Bay have declined sharply since the 2000s. Various causes have been invoked to explain this phenomenon: climate anomalies, disease, over-grazing by herbivorous birds, contamination by herbicides, mechanical destruction during clam fishing. Le projet IDHEBARC s’intéresse à l’impact potentiel des travaux maritimes (nettoyage des friches ostréicoles, dragage des ports, …) sur les herbiers de zostères du Bassin d’Arcachon. Ce projet pluriannuel comporte des actions de modélisation hydrosédimentaire visant à cartographier l’intensité des impacts potentiels, et un suivi de l’évolution de l’emprise et du recouvrement des herbiers et de la composition de leur fond sédimentaire. Ce rapport présente les premiers résultats du suivi réalisé dans le secteur des Jacquets (Bassin d’Arcachon) où des travaux d’entretien du Domaine Public Maritime ont été réalisés en février et mars 2019. |

La Directive Cadre sur l’Eau 2000/60/CE établit un nouveau cadre pour une politique communautaire dans le domaine de l’eau. Elle fixe comme objectif général d’atteindre, à l’horizon 2015, un bon état écologique et chimique des masses d’eau souterraines et de surface, ces dernières incluant les eaux côtières (MEC) et les eaux de transition (MET). Dans ce cadre, un certain nombre d'éléments de qualité sont suivis, dont l'élément de qualité "Angiospermes" dans les masses d'eau où les herbiers de zostères sont présents. Ce rapport contient les résultats du suivi mis en oeuvre entre 2007 et 2013 et son classement écologique au sens de la DCE pour cet élément de qualité dans la masse d'eau « Lac d’Hossegor ». |

Each summer, the IFREMER laboratory of Arcachon monitors, in the scope of an agreement with the Regional Conchological Comity of Arcachon, the reproduction of Pacific oysters in the Arcachon Bay. This monitoring aims to provide oyster farmers with information necessary to the spat collecting: - dates and amount of spawn, - larval development speed, - presence of the most evolved stages in the habitat (close to fixation).
