Avaliação de fungicidas para o controle de Colletotrichum gloeosporioides em cebola Trop. Plant Pathol.

A antracnose foliar causada por Colletotrichum gloeosporioides é a doença mais importante da cebolicultura (Allium cepae) em Guidoval e Guiricema, MG. Para controle da doença, utilizam-se intensivamente fungicidas, principalmente benomil (Ben), o que tem sido pouco efetivo. Neste trabalho, testou-se a hipótese da existência de isolados de C. gloeosporioides resistentes ao Ben e se comparou a eficiência de diferentes fungicidas no controle do patógeno. Nas concentrações testadas, Ben impediu o crescimento micelial do fungo, e a germinação de conídios decresceu com o aumento da concentração do produto. Evolución del contenido de elementos nutrientes en suelos cultivados con cebolla de bulbo Acta Agron. (Palmira)

RESUMEN El objetivo del estudio fue determinar la evolución del contenido de nutrientes en suelos destinados al cultivo comercial de cebolla de bulbo (Allium cepa) en el municipio de Tibasosa, Boyacá. En un suelo sulfic endoaquepts se establecieron tres tratamientos: Sin fertilización (T1), con fertilización convencional de la zona (T2) y fertilización con base en el análisis de suelos (T3). Se recolectaron muestras para análisis 20 días antes de la siembra y a los 45, 90 y 120 días después de la siembra (DDS). Los contenidos de macroelementos se presentaron en el orden N>Ca>K>Mg>S>P y los de micronutrientes Mn>Fe>Zn>Cu>B existiendo interacciones positivas entre N/Fe, P/K, P/Ca, P/Mg, K/Mg, K/S, Mg/S, B/Zn y Cu/Mn y negativas...

The increase in consumption of water, the destruction of riparian forests and the pollution caused by humans, have severely degraded several water resources. Numerous stream crisscross the city of Maringá, Paraná state, Brazil and most of their sources are scattered through the urban region. Current analysis assesses the cytotoxic potential of water from the Corregozinho, Isalto, Morangueira and Ozório streams, located within the high-populated northeastern region of Maringá, inside the urban perimeter. O estudo avalia a toxicidade, citotoxicidade, genotoxicidade e análises físico-químicas e microbiológicas de amostras de águas coletadas em dois pontos (nascente e foz) do Rio da Ilha - um dos principais afluentes do Rio dos Sinos, RS, Brasil - em dois períodos: inverno (2014) e verão (2015), através do bioensaio com Allium cepa que fornece esses dados através da mensuração das raízes dos bulbos, índice mitótico e presença de aberrações cromossômicas. Os resultados demonstraram níveis de citotoxicidade principalmente na foz do rio, e alguns parâmetros (DBO5, fósforo, alumínio, chumbo, ferro, níquel e coliformes termotolerantes) acima da legislação estabelecida, mesmo a região sofrendo pouco impacto de origem antrópica.

Food flavorings in general are few studied for the toxicological aspect. This condition justifies toxicity, cytotoxicity and genotoxicity assessments of the substances. In the present study, the toxicity of banana, cherry and hazelnut flavorings was evaluated in meristematic cells of roots of Allium cepa, in pure form (as marketed) and in the concentrations of 12.5; 25 and 50%, after 24 and 48 hours of exposure. S. australis inflorescences and leaves of two accessions were used for aqueous extract preparation at concentrations: 0.003 g/ml and 0.012 g/ml. ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the antiproliferative, cytotoxic and genotoxic potential of salty liquid synthetic flavorings of Butter, Cheddar Cheese and Onion. The antiproliferative potential (2.9-1500 µg/mL) was assessed by MTT assay after 72h using the human tumor lines SF-295 (glioblastoma), OVCAR-8 (ovarian), HCT-116 (colon) and HL-60 (promyelocytic leukemia) and primary cultures of murine Sarcoma 180 (S180) and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Antiproliferative action of aqueous extracts of Hymenaea stigonocarpa Mart. (Fabaceae) on the cell cycle of Allium cepa L. Anais da ABC (AABC)

In this study we evaluated the action of crude aqueous extracts obtained from rhytidome of Hymenaea stigonocarpa (jatobá-do-cerrado) on Allium cepa meristematic root cells in three concentrations: 0.082, 0.164, 0.328g/mL, at exposure times of 24 and 48 h. The slides were prepared by the crushing technique, and cells analyzed throughout the cell cycle, totaling 5000 for each control group and concentration. Flutuação populacional de tripes, Thrips tabaci Lind., em cebola em Ituporanga, Santa Catarina Anais da SEB

The population dynamics of Thrips tabaci Lind. was evaluated for onion (Allium cepa) planted in July, August and September at the Ituporanga Experimental Station, EPAGRI S.A., Santa Catarina State, Brazil, from 1985 to 1988. For each planting date cv. Baia Periforme, Jubileu, EMPASC 351 Sel. Crioula and Norte 14 were used. Severe infestation in all cultivars was observed after mid-October. The population peak of T. tabaci occurred between the end of October and mid-November. Cultivars transplanted early tended to escape from high population densities. Populations of T. tabaci peaked during bulb formation and decreased thereafter.

Evaluation of cytotoxic potential of latex of Calotropis procera and Podophyllotoxin in Allum cepa root model Biocell

In the present study we have utilized the Allium cepa root tip meristem model to evaluate the cytotoxic and anti-mitotic activities of latex of Calotropis procera (DL) and podophyllotoxin. Standard cytotoxic drug cyclophosphamide and non-cytotoxic drugs cyproheptadine and aspirin served as controls. Like cyclophosphamide, both DL and podophyllotoxin significantly inhibited the growth of roots and mitotic activity in a dose-dependent manner. However, podophyllotoxin was more potent in this regard and produced root decay. Cyproheptadine and aspirin, on the other hand, showed a marginal effect on the root growth and mitotic activity at much higher concentrations.

Free-radical scavenging capacity and antioxidant properties of some selected onions (Allium cepa L.) and garlic (Allium sativum L.) extracts BABT

The radical scavenging activity (RAS), chain-breaking activity, H2O2-scavenging, reducing capacity and total phenolics of four types of onions (Green onion, Yellow, Red and Purple) and garlic were investigated. Total phenolics varied from 30 mg (green onion) to 49 mg.100 g-1 fresh weight (garlic). Garlic extract showed the highest RAS, while green onion showed the lowest one. The chain-breaking activity of green onion extract was higher (0.48) than garlic extract (0.029). Chain-breaking activity of yellow, red and purple onion extracts was 0.19, 0.048 and 0.032 respectively. However, heating treatment (90 ºC, 3h) caused an increase in this activity. ABSTRACT Perlatolic acid (1), methyl perlatolate (2), and the products of perlatolic acid alcoholysis-namely, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, iso-propyl, n-butyl, sec-butyl, tert-butyl, n-pentyl, and n-hexyl 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-6-n-pentylbenzoate (3-11)-were evaluated for their herbicidal potential on Lactuca sativa L. (lettuce) and Allium cepa L. (onion) seeds. The compounds exhibited low phytotoxicity on L. sativa germination. Perlatolic acid (1) proved the most active compound (20%). Activity was lowest for n-hexyl 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-6-n-pentylbenzoate (11) (3.5%). Environmental degradation caused by the excessive use of pesticides has motivated studies aimed at the discovery of new formulations for pest control. The bioassays carried out under laboratory conditions for the present study involved the germination and seedling growth of Lactuca sativa cv. Grand Rapids and Allium cepa cv. Baia Periforme treated with lecanoric acid or one of seven esters obtained from the alcoholysis of the acid. Each substance was tested at concentrations of 10-3, 10-5, 10-7 M, and 10-9 M. Laurus nobilis L. is a large shrub belonging to the Lauracea family. Its leaves are widely used for food seasoning as well as in folk medicine. Various studies have demonstrated the antiproliferative, antifungal and antibacterial effects of Laurus nobilis, but no studies have investigated the genotoxic effect of the aqueous extract of the plant. The objective of this study was to analyze the genotoxic potential of an aqueous extract of leaves, using the Allium cepa assay and mouse peripheral blood cell micronucleus test. A study of the phytotoxic effects of the aerial parts of Senecio westermanii Dusén (Asteraceae) on Lactuca sativa L. and Allium cepa L. seeds BJPS

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the ethanolic crude extracts and fractions of the species Senecio westermanii Dusén on Lactuca sativa L. (lettuce) and Allium cepa L. (onion) seeds. We assessed the germination, growth, root respiration and photosynthesis of the target species in Petri dishes (9.0 cm diameter) containing filter paper n°6. The study was conducted using 50 seeds per plate and held in 4 replicates per concentration of each sample. In the germination there was an inhibitory effect of fractions hexane (FH) and chloroform (FCl) at concentrations of 500 and 1000 µg/mL. Divergência genética entre populações de cebola com base em marcadores morfológicos Ciência Rural

Bulbos de 16 acessos do Banco Ativo de Germoplasma de Cebola (Allium cepa) da Embrapa Clima Temperado foram avaliados quanto a peso, diâmetro, altura, coloração das túnicas externas, formato, uniformidade e conservação pós-colheita nas condições ambientais de Pelotas - RS, com o objetivo de estimar a divergência genética entre populações de cebola. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos a análises de agrupamento e de componentes principais. Foi evidenciada a presença de variabilidade genética para os caracteres considerados.
