ABSTRACT The objective of the present research was to study the incidence of broiler carcass condemnations over eleven years and identify the productive phase that causes greater loss in slaughter process. The origin of these condemnations was determined before and after fasting. Evaluated broilers were reared in positive pressure warehouses and slaughtered between 28 and 34 days old with carcass weight ranging from 0.7 to 1.4 kg. Fasting occurred, on average, 9 h before the slaughter. Condemnation and slaughter data were collected from 2004 to 2014 in a slaughterhouse with slaughter capacity of 120,000 broilers/day. The causes of rearing condemnations were airsaccullitis, arthritis, abscess, ascites, cachexia, cellulitis, colibacillosis, dermatosis,...

Perception of nutritionists on the use of growth hormones in the broiler industry in Maceió, Alagoas, Brazil MV&Z
Silva Camargo, Karine; Cavalcante Lira, Rosa; Auto Lopes, Levi; Helena Barros Tavares, Maria.
This study evaluated the level of knowledge of nutritionists in Maceió, in the state of Alagoas, Brazil, regarding the myth of the use of hormones in broilers. Eighty-two nutritionists living in the city were interviewed and 79.27% of them considered themselves to be poorly informed about the composition of chicken diets, but 54.87% stated that chicken meat contains hormone, making evident the lack of information on feeding and hormone use in the diet of broilers. Thus, it is clear the need for greater exposure on the ban of the use of hormones in broiler production.

TEMPERATURE-HUMIDITY INDEX AND THERMAL COMFORT OF BROILERS IN HUMID TROPICS. CIGR Journal
Omomowo, Oluwafemi Owodunni.
In improving broiler welfare and ensuring better productivity thermal comfort of broilers is of utmost interest. To estimate the thermal comfort of broilers, the THI model was developed using commonly available meteorological parameters, namely temperature and relative humidity. This research re-examined the model by using the Levenberg-Marquardt Algorithm (Excel Solver) based nonlinear regression model to reduce the error space and generate new model constants unique to Akure, South West, Nigeria. Physiological data (cloacal temperature and body weight) were collected for a period of 6 weeks from 50 broilers raised in a developed adaptive poultry housing. Environmental data on temperature and relative humidity were used to calibrate the THI of the...

Enzymatic programs for broilers BABT
Sorbara,José Otávio Berti; Murakami,Alice Eiko; Nakage,Eliane Saiuri; Piracés,Francisco; Potença,Alexandra; Guerra,Rafael Lachinski Holanda.
Two trials were conducted on floor pens to evaluate the performance of broilers fed with diets contained different carbohydrases enzyme programs at different ages. Trial 1- The body weight gain (BWG) was affected by the Negative Control (NC) treatment (P<0.05). However, when the birds were fed with the NC diet + Amilase (AMY)+Xilanase (XYL), the BWG improved and reached the same level as the Positive Control (PC). Trial 2- The birds received enzymes supplementation in the total phase and others only in the grower phase. The ME reduction by 120 kcal/kg increased the feed conversion ratio (FCR) (P<0.05) when compared to PC and none of the enzyme programs was able to recover the performance. It can be concluded that it is possible to supplement with AMY...

Lopes,Marcos; Paroul,Natalia; Barbosa,Juliana; Valduga,Eunice; Cansian,Rogerio Luis; Toniazzo,Geciane; Oliveira,Débora.
ABSTRACT Among the nutrients involved in the chicken diet, the microminerals deserve attention as they exert essential functions in the organism. These compounds can be provided in inorganic (traditional) and organic (chelate) forms. In organic form, the micromimerals can attend a new concept related to a better bio-availability. In this sense, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the partial and total substitution of inorganic by organic sources of microminerals on the animal diet, assessing its concentration in the blood and liver after 21 and 40 days and also in the bones after 40 days. Moreover, the effect on the physical-chemical and sensory characteristics of the muscle after 15 days of storage at 4°C was also evaluated. The...
