A baixa...

An Analysis of Organic Agriculture in Turkey: The Current Situation and Basic Constraints - The Updated and Revised Version Organic Eprints
Özbilge, Zeynep.
This article gives information about the current situation of Turkish organic agriculture, especially by comparing the official recognition for organic farming in the European Union with that of Turkey and summarizes the existing constraints. The analysis indicates that the further development of Turkish organic agriculture depends upon the development of the domestic organic market and Turkey has to fulfil a number of conditions to provide it. It is needed that the Turkish state both encourages organic production for the domestic market and supports organic agriculture by all means.

Houeto, Justin A.; Vodouhê, Simplice D..

Roderick, Stephen; Burke, Jean.
A detailed survey of organic farming in Cornwall was completed duing the period August 2002 to February 2003. One of the main objectives of the survey was to describe current practices and constraints to organic production so as to aid the Organic Studies Centre in developing a research and training strategy that meets the needs of Cornish organic farmers. all 130 registered producer members of the Soil Association Certification Ltd (SACert) and Organic Farmers anf Growers Ltd (OF&G) were contacted. Of these, 120 were farming and 119 were interviewed. Data collected through closed questioning reflected a wide range of land-use, enterprise, marketing, husbandry, management, certification, income and environmental issues. Comments from farmers,...

Sustainability assessment of the farmers market. A case study in Tuscany Organic Eprints
Migliorini, Paola; Scaltriti, Bruno.
To assess the sustainability of the agricultural sectors of three farming systems of the Province of Massa (Tuscany, Italy) the analysis was performed on agro-environmental and economic aspects of 5 farms with different management systems: conventional and organic. The agro-environmental sustainability was measured through indicators of the soil, water, air and landscape-biodiversity. Economic indicators was carried out by detecting economic synthesis. The result shows that the analysed farms reach a good level of sustainability with regard to economic aspects and have positive impact on the environment in particular when managed as organic.

The use of computer modelling to evaluate the agronomic, economic and environmental impacts of N management in contrasting organic rotations Organic Eprints
Rayns, Francis; Schmutz, Ulrich; Firth, Chris; Thorup-Kristensen, Kristian; Zhang, Kefeng; Rahn, Clive.
A new computer model (EU-ROTATE_N) has been developed with the aim of improving nitrogen management on all farms across Europe which include fi eld vegetables in their rotations. It brings together aspects of many existing models and contains a number of features to make it applicable to organic producers (e.g. taking account of nitrogen fixation by legume containing leys, nitrogen conservation by winter cover crops and nitrogen supply by manures and composts). A key feature is the model’s ability to simulate economic output and this enables it to be of value to policy makers when considering the impact of new measures to reduce environmental pollution. This paper describes the model and some initial work that has been conducted to evaluate it under UK...

Die Bestimmungsgründe der deutschen Landpachtpreise in Abhängigkeit vom Flächenstatus Organic Eprints
Schmidtner, Eva; Lippert, Christian; Dabbert, Stephan.
The BÖLN-funded project assesses the current situation of the land rental market in Germany and, thereby, accounts for spatial aspects. We will draw on secondary data from the official German farm census conducted in 2010 to analyse determinants of land rental prices and their potential differences in space. Using spatial econometric methods we aim at analysing information on organic and conventional farms. To fill gaps in knowledge and experience and to ensure the practical relevance of the results, we will additionally perform explorative interviews with organic landlords and conduct a one-day workshop with experts from the organic farming sector. Based on two different empirical approaches, recommendations enhancing the competitiveness of organic...

Managementstrategien in der ökologischen Agrar- und Ernährungswirtschaft?! Organic Eprints

Sørheim, Kristin Marie; Johanssen, Juni Rosann E.; Ebbesvik, Martha.
The Norwegian Centre for Organic Agriculture (NORSØK), in collaboration with the Norwegian Agricultural Extension Service (NLR), Debio and the Norwegian Association of Sheep and Goat Farmers (NSG), has written this report to provide practical solutions to meet the requirements of the EU-regulation about a solid lying area for at least 0,75 m2 of 1,5 m2 per sheep and 0,18 m2 of 0,35 m2 per lamb in organic production. In a survey done by Debio, which was answered by 354 of Norwegians 579 organic sheep producers, 37 % answered that they either had to make changes with the new regulations or that they didn’t know. Half of these respondents thought it would be difficult and comprehensive to adapt to the new requirements. Some of them would rather switch to...
