| Crop rotations of organic farms without livestock were compared on three sites for three years in three replications. The crop rotations consisted of a kernel legume and two cereals. Different distances in the rows of kernel legumes and various ways of intercropping after them should improve the yield of cereals. Within the kernel legumes peas (5.5 tons/ha) and faba beans (5.2 tons/ha) had high, lupins (2.5 tons/ha) low yields. The following crop winter wheat reached high yields (6.0 tons/ha) with no differences depending on the species of kernel legumes, their distances in rows or the variations in intercropping. | Achieving high baking quality and sufficient yield is often a challenge in organic wheat production. Two varieties of winter wheat and seven varieties of spring wheat in autumn sowing (End of October) were compared regarding winter hardiness, grain yield and baking quality. The field trial was conducted between 2010 and 2013 on a sandy loam nearby Freising, Bavaria. In 2011, the results for winter hardiness were only available due to a damage of hail. With one exception spring wheat showed comparable winter hardiness to the two varieties of winter wheat. | French organic farmers are asked to increase Grain Protein Content (GPC) of organic winter wheat to guarantee the breadmaking quality required from millers. Facing with the recent depletion of organic products, farmers also need to stabilize and increase the yield performance. | In order to obtain a high and stable yield of organic spring barley, production should be optimized according to the specific environment. To test the performance of spring barley varieties under varying cropping conditions, a field experiment was carried out in 2003 and 2004 in a six-field mixed organic crop rotation. | La qualité du blé biologique suisse est bonne, dit-on, mais les centres collecteurs continuent de recevoir régulièrement des lots dont la qualité ne correspond pas aux normes exigées. Bio Suisse voulait savoir à quoi en est réellement la qualité du blé biologique suisse et s’il y a besoin de prendre des mesures. Elle a donc lancé en 2009 avec le FiBL un projet national de recensement et si nécessaire d’amélioration de la qualité du blé. Les résultats de cette étude de trois ans sont maintenant connus. |

| Intake of phytosterols (and -stanols) has been shown to decrease the level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and thus protect against development of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, studies on the cultivar and year-to-year variation in phytosterol content in rye grains have been performed. The phytosterol content and composition of different rye cultivars, grown under identical conditions on the same field in three consecutive years, were analyzed. Both cultivar and year-to-year variation in sterol content were statistically significant (p < 0.0001). Die mehrfaktoriellen Feldversuche werden als randomisierte Streifenanlagen, an jeweils drei Orten mit anfälligen und weniger anfälligen Weizen- und Dinkelsorten mit unterschiedlichen Infektionsstufen und vier Wiederholungen durchgeführt. Grain legume performances in the cropping system are highly dependent upon N nutrition of the crop relying on root assimilation of soil N in combination with symbiotic fixation of atmospheric dinitrogen. | In Austria organic soybeans are mainly produced in the eastern part of the country due to its temperature requirements. To examine genotypic differences with respect to seed quality a three-year field trial with seven soybean cultivars was conducted. The cultivar `Essor´ showed significantly higher (p<0,05) values for corn yield, thousand grain weight and seed protein content in all three years compared to to the early maturing cultivar `Merlin´. Ært er den bedst tilpassedeproteinafgrøde til danske forhold med hurtig udvikling, rettidig afmodning og et højt udbyttepotentiale. Ærts svage sider er tørkefølsomhed specielt under blomstring, lille afgrødehøjde ved høst, et middel proteinindhold og en svag konkurence evne over for ukrudt, desuden kan ært ikke vende oftere tilbage i sædskiftet end hver 4 år for at undgå ærtetræt jord.
