Records of some rare Pontoniid Shrimps from Australian Waters, with remarks upon the Mouthparts of some species of the genus Periclimenes Costa, 1844 Naturalis
Bruce, A.J..
Recently made collections have indicated that the pontoniid shrimp fauna of the east coast of Australia, including the Great Barrier Reef, is still poorly known. Material obtained by the staff of the Australian Museum from their collections at One Tree Island and Heron Island in the Capricorn Group on the Great Barrier Reef has provided some interesting material new to the Australian fauna and their collections have provided specimens of Periclimenes lanipes which were collected by the Fisheries Investigation Ship "Endeavour", but not included in the report on the Decapoda Natantia by Schmitt (1926). With two exceptions the remaining species included in this report are also new to the Australian fauna and four are known only from the original type...

Fish, fans and hydroids: host species of pygmy seahorses Naturalis
Reijnen, B.T.; Meij, S.E.T. van der; Ofwegen, L.P. van.
An overview of the octocoral and hydrozoan host species of pygmy seahorses is provided based on literature records and recently collected field data for Hippocampus bargibanti, H. denise and H. pontohi. Seven new associations are recognized and an overview of the so far documented host species is given. A detailed re-examination of octocoral type material and a review of the taxonomic history of the alcyonacean genera Annella (Subergorgiidae) and Muricella (Acanthogorgiidae) are included as baseline for future revisions. The host specificity and colour morphs of pygmy seahorses are discussed, as well as the reliability of (previous) identifications and conservation issues.

Genetic diversity and geographic structure in Aglaia elaeagnoidea (Meliaceae, Sapindales), a morphologically complex tree species, near the two extremes of its distribution Naturalis
Muellner, A.N.; Greger, H.; Pannell, C.M..
Aglaia elaeagnoidea is the most widespread and one of the more morphologically diverse complex species in the largest genus of the mahogany family (Meliaceae, Sapindales). We performed maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian analyses (nuclear ITS rDNA) to estimate genetic relations among samples of Aglaia elaeagnoidea, and their phylogenetic position within Aglaia (more than 120 species in Indomalesia, Australasia, and the Pacific islands). Based on 90 accessions of Melioideae (ingroup) and four taxa of Cedreloideae (outgroup), this study 1) provides a first assessment of the genetic diversity of Aglaia elaeagnoidea; 2) investigates the geographic structure of the data in selected eastern and western regions of its distribution; and 3) suggests...

Notes on the nasal tract complex of the Boutu, Inia geoffrensis (De Blainville, 1817) (Cetacea, Platanistidae) Naturalis
Schenkkan, E.J..
The anatomy of the nasal passage of three specimens of the Boutu has been studied. The various diverticula appear to be aberrant from those described for other Platanistidae. The vestibular airsac system has developed into one enormous diverticulum. Except for a narrow region caudal to the blowhole, the total maxillary area caudal to the orbits is covered by this somewhat dome-shaped airsac system. The dorsal and rostral aspects of the vestibular system are strikingly symmetrical as are also the deeper parts of the nasal passage. The caudal parts of the nasofrontal diverticula are well developed, rostral parts are tubular and relatively small. Accessory air sacs are lacking and the premaxillary diverticula are broad, but their lumina rostral to the bony...

Das accessorische Schalenstück von Corbula Naturalis
Martin, K..

West Indian Crabs of the genus Calappa, with a description of three new species Naturalis
Holthuis, L.B..
In recent years several extensive collections of West Indian Decapod Crustacea have been received for identification by the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie. On various visits to the Netherlands Antilles Dr. P. Wagenaar Hummelinck, Curator of the Zoological Laboratory at Utrecht, collected numerous Decapoda including many most interesting forms. Dr. J. S. Zaneveld, Director of the Caribbean Marine Biological Institute at Curaçao, not only assisted Dr. Hummelinck on his last (1955) visit to that island, but also sent in to the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie important material which he had collected before and since; furthermore, during my own stay in the Netherlands Antilles (November 1956 to April 1957), Dr. Zaneveld did everything in his power...

Exkretionssystem und systematische Stellung Kubanischer Fledermaustrematoden Naturalis
Odening, Klaus.
1. Eight species of Cuban bat trematodes have been examined, and their excretory system established. 2. In Urotrema scabridum Braun a small V-shaped excretory bladder and the flame cell formula 2[(2+ 2+2) + (2+2+2)] were ascertained. This enabled us to affiliate the family Urotrematidae to the Microphalloidea sensu Odening (1964) within the suborder Plagiorchiata. A new key to the families of the Microphalloidea is given. 3. The genus Ochoterenatrema characterized by a pseudogonotyl is divided into the two subgenera Ochoterenatrema (with pretesticular vitellaria) and Morenodendrium n.subgen. (with posttesticular vitellaria). Both subgenera have a V-shaped excretory bladder and the flame cell formula is 2[(2+2+2) + (2+2+2)], as stated for the species O....

A revision of Anthoxanthum including Hierochloë (Gramineae) in Malesia and Thailand Naturalis
Schouten, Yolanda; Veldkamp, J.F..
A revision is given of the taxa in Malesia and Thailand usually included in Anthoxanthum L. and Hierochloë R. Br. (Gramineae). There are two species, A. horsfleldii (Bennett) Reeder with 7 varieties in Malesia and 1 in Thailand, and A. redolens (Vahl) Royen with 2 varieties in New Guinea. A survey of the characters generally employed to distinguish the genera is given and briefly discussed to show that these give an untenable separation. Some new combinations in Anthoxanthum are proposed.

Phenetic relationships in the genus Myotis Naturalis
Findley, James S..
The genus Myotis is of interest to the evolutionist because of its diversity and because of its nearly cosmopolitan distribution. An understanding of the biology of this remarkable genus may provide insight into its success, as well as the success of other expansive groups of mammals. As part of an overall study of Myotis, I subjected measurements of 48 morphological traits from most of the described species to standard numerical taxonomic analysis. I hoped to delineate phenetic groupings in the genus, and to learn if these groupings provide insight into adaptive diversification of species, into the history of the genus, and into a replicable approach to its classification. Phenograms based on Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients and on...

IAWA Bulletin, New Series. Quarterly periodical of the International Association of Wood Anatomists. Annual subscriptions Dfl. 40.00 (Dfl. 30.00 for personal members of IAWA). Volume 1, 1980. From its foundation in 1931 the International Association of Wood Anatomists has promoted international contacts through the publication of News Letters, which were later transformed into a News Bulletin, also containing review articles. From 1970 onwards a more pretentious IAWA Bulletin made its appearance, which not only aimed at publishing notes, requests and review articles, but also original scientific publications. The latter category increased in relative importance, and forced the editors to change from the large, yet rather unprofessional magazin size to that...

Notes on the genus Psathyrella—III. Unorthodox approach and key to section Atomatae Naturalis
Kits van Waveren, E..
The species of the genus Psathyrella listed by Romagnesi (1953: 355) in the groups of Atomatae and Pronae are brought into one section, section Atomatae. This section is divided into a coprophilous and a non-coprophilous group. Fifty-four collections of species, belonging to this section were examined, including type material of Drosophila picta Romagn., D. orbitarum Romagn., and D. albidula Romagn.; herbarium material of Psathyrella atomata (Fr.) Quél, and Drosophila infida Quél., received from Prof. H. Romagnesi; type material of Psathyrella coprophila Watling, P. fimetaria Watling, and P. vinosofulva Orton. A new species, P. Romagnesii Kits van Wav. and a new variety, P. prona var. utriformis Kits van Wav. are described and it is argued that the latter...
