Genetic linkage map of Phaseolus vulgaris and identification of QTLs responsible for resistance to Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli Trop. Plant Pathol.
Santos,Amaury S.; Bressan-Smith,Ricardo E.; Pereira,Messias G.; Rodrigues,Rosana; Ferreira,Claudia F..
Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) cultivars with a high degree of resistance to Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli (Xap) are not available in Brazil. Despite many studies, a low degree of resistance to Xap continues to exist due to its complex genetic inheritance, which is not well known. The objectives of this research were to complement a common bean genetic map based on the cross between a susceptible genotype 'HAB-52' and a resistant genotype 'BAC-6', and to map and analyze genomic regions (quantitative trait loci – QTLs) related to Xap resistance. Eleven linkage groups were determined using 143 RAPD markers, covering 1,234.5 cM of the genome. This map was used to detect QTLs associated with Xap resistance on leaves and pods. The averages of disease...

Screening common bean germplasm for resistance to genetically diverse Sclerotinia sclerotiorum isolates from Argentina Agronomy
Abán, Carla Luciana; Taboada, Gisel Maria; Casalderrey, Norma Beatriz; Maggio, Maria Elisa; Chocobar, Mario Osvaldo; Spedaletti, Yamila Andrea; Gonzalez, Mónica Alicia Aparicio; Vizgarra, Oscar Vicéforo; Galván, Marta Zulema.
White mold caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary is a devastating disease that affects the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris. L) crop worldwide. In Argentina, white mold has been detected in all bean production areas, reaching seed yield and quality losses up to 100% on susceptible common bean cultivars under favorable weather conditions. The aim of this study was to screen the physiological resistance of 20 common bean accessions to five genetically distinct isolates of S. sclerotiorum collected from the main common bean growing area of Argentina, using the greenhouse straw test. The white mold reaction was scored at 7, 14, and 21 days post-inoculation using a 1 (no disease symptoms) to 9 (severely diseased or dead plants) scale and the area...

Screening of melon populations for resistance to Didymella bryoniae in greenhouse and plastic tunnel conditions BABT
Tsutsumi,Cláudio Yuji; Silva,Norberto da.
Studies were carried out to evaluate melon populations for resistance to Gummy Stem Blight, caused by Didymella bryoniae for use in breeding programs under greenhouse and plastic tunnel conditions. Were evaluated reactions of half-sib populations of PI 140471 and Anô nº 2 had as with susceptible check Eldorado 300. Plants were inoculated 45 days for needle prickling followed by application of 0.05 ml of 5.0 x 10(5) spores/ml suspension in axis of third and fourth true leaves.Resistance evaluation was made after 90 days of age using a scale varying one to five. PI 140471 and Anô nº 2 progenies were found superior and differed significantly with the checker Eldorado 300 for the F Test. Anô nº 2 possessing multiple resistance to diseases and desirable...

Evaluation of soybean breeding lineages to new sources of root-knot nematode resistance Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Hamawaki,Osvaldo Toshiyuki; Hamawaki,Raphael Lemes; Nogueira,Ana Paula Oliveira; Glasenapp,Jacqueline Siqueira; Hamawaki,Cristiane Divina Lemes; Silva,Carolina Oliveira da.
ABSTRACT In Brazil, as the soybean crop expands the losses caused by nematodes as well as its incidence in producing areas have increased. Therefore, this work aimed to develop a non-genetically modified soybean which combines desirable traits as the root-knot nematode resistance, early-maturity, high seed yielding, and high oil and protein contents. Consequently, seeds (F2) derived from the double-crossing between (Guarani x Sambaiba) x (M Soy 6101 x Conquista) were bulked to grow the F3 generation. Following generations were advanced by the SSD method of breeding until F6. Thus, plants showing superior characteristics were planted separately to perform progeny tests and then advanced breeding lines were thoroughly tested and compared to standards in...
