Mit Bio-Züchtung gegen Mehltau? Neue Strategien zur Salatzüchtung in der Zusammenarbeit von Kultursaat e.V. und Julius-Kühn-Institut Organic Eprints

Der Falsche Mehltau an Salat gilt als gefürchtetste Krankheit mit hohen Ertragsverlusten. Veränderte Klimabedingungen begünstigen seine Ausbreitung; neue Denkansätze in der Resilienzzüchtung sind nötig. Zwei vom BÖLN geförderte Projekte wurden von 2011 bis 2014 durchgeführt. Im Projekt zur dezentralen Salatzüchtung konnten bei den Kopfsalatlinien keine stabilen Feldresistenzen gefunden werden. Die Anpassungsleistung fertiger Linien an regionale Bedingungen ist gering, die Selektion bereits während des Züchtungsganges an den Standorten ist zu empfehelen. Our apple breeding program is based entirely on the results of our work to safeguard, evaluate and valorize the rich heritage of apple tree genetic resources in our regions. Since 1975, no fewer than 1800 introductions have been collected in our collections and, taking into account duplicates, errors and synonyms, this represents a total of about 850 distinct cultivars. These are systematically evaluated in experimental orchards that do not undergo any treatment. Some cultivars that are highlighted for their high level of resistance to the main diseases as well as for their agronomic and quality characteristics of trees and fruits are used as parents. Die Ansprüche des ökologischen Landbaus an Kartoffelsorten unterscheiden sich zum Teil erheblich von denen des konventionellen Anbaus. Dies ist bedingt durch den alternativen Pflanzenschutz mit mechanischer Unkrautbekämpfung sowie durch eine in der Regel geringere Stickstoffversorgung der Pflanzen. Darum benötigt der ökologische Landbau spezielle Sorten, die neben den vom Verbraucher gewünschten Qualitätsmerkmalen auch eine hohe Widerstandsfähigkeit gegenüber Krankheiten und Schädlingen besitzen, durch schnelle Jugendentwicklung das Unkrautwachstum unterdrücken und eine hohe Nährstoffeffizienz aufweisen. Developing crop varieties that are less dependent on the heavy application of synthetic fertilizers is essential for the sustainability of agriculture. Here we report the development of a new rice cultivar, the first of its kind possessing the general criteria for an organic rice variety, at the same time suitable for chemical agriculture as well, and with favourable cooking and nutritive qualities. In Central Europe low temperature is limiting soybean growth and biological nitrogen fixation (BNF). The BNF efficiency was shown to increase with bradyrhizobia strains selected for their cold tolerance. Significant bradyrhizobia x soybean variety interactions were reported. Co-inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi (AMF) may promote bradyrhizobia and improve plant phosphorus uptake. The aim of this study is to identify (i) bradyrhizobia showing improved nodulation under cool conditions, (ii) bradyrhizobia x soybean variety and (iii) bradyrhizobia x AMF interactions. How to optimize fruit and berry cultivar selection for organic farmers ? A comparison of European approaches. Organic Eprints

Most of the currently grown commercial fruit cultivars remain unsuitable to low-input or sustainable organic farming systems. The major reason is that they have been developed and selected under high input cultivation, and without sufficient attention to susceptibility to pests and diseases. Some of these cultivars are nevertheless marketed as resistant because they carry genetic markers for major resistance genes but these are unfortunately prone to break-down (most of apple resistant cultivars relay only on the Vf). As a result, new fruit cultivars tend to reveal unexpected and often undesirable traits when grown in commercial organic orchards, and thus fail to bring about the much needed expansion in organic production and market availability. COBRA - Coordinating Organic Plant BReeding Activities - for diversity Organic Eprints
The proceedings contain a complete program for the COBRA Final Conference, a list of the participants and abstracts describing the presentations. COBRA is a European research project (CORE organic II) which aims to unleash the potential of plant genetic diversity for organic agriculture by linking up efforts on both pure line breeding and High genetic diversity (Hi-D) systems in grain legumes. COBRA focuses on four major arable crops: wheat, barley, pea and faba bean. International Experts from 16 different countries attended the COBRA Final Conference. Prüfung neuer pilzwiderstandsfähiger Rotweinrebsorten auf ihre Anbaueignung in Franken Organic Eprints

Five new fungus-tolerant grape varieties were tested from 2005 to 2010 in comparison to Merlot in Franconia/Germany. Crossings with Cabernet Sauvignon showed different ripening behavior, and aroma expression. Cabernet Carbon presented a full-bodied wine, whereas Cabernet Coral ranged sensorically near his cross parent Cabernet Sauvignon. Reberger as a very early ripening variety reached often plumy notes. All 5 varieties are not totally fungus resistant and need some plant protection depending on the yearly infection conditions. In specific years the tested Cabernet crossings had problems with stem dieback and bunch rot. Cabernet Carol and Cabernet Cortis reached the best results in relation to Merlot.

Højere udbytte i vårhvede og vårbyg Organic Eprints

Vårhvede og vårbyg er hver for sig velkendte arter i det økologiske sædskifte, hvor vårhvede normalt dyrkes til konsum og vårbyg i stor udstrækning til foder. I sortsafprøvningerne lykkes det ofte, at opnå udbytter på over 50 hkg/ha, hvorimod udbyttet ude på bedrifterne ligger noget lavere. Særligt vårhvede ligger i praksis langt under 50 hkg/ha. I praksis er det derfor kun en mindre del af sorternes fulde udbyttepotentiale der udnyttes, hvorfor det er interessant at undersøge hvilke praktiske tiltag der kan hæve udbytterne.

Nye vårbygsorter ser lovende ud Organic Eprints

Arealet med vårbyg blev i 2012 større end antaget, hvilket skyldes udvintring af vinterhvede og gulrust i triticale. Og da såsæden af andre vårsædsarter hurtigt blev udsolgt, måtte mange økologer nøjes med vårbyg. Generelt har vårbyg landet over givet gennemsnitlige udbytter og har således været det rigtige valg i forhold til en udvintret vinterhvede.
