Multicomponent training with different frequencies on body composition and physical fitness in obese children Anais da ABC (AABC)
ALVES,ANA SOFIA R.; VENÂNCIO,TELMA L.; HONÓRIO,SAMUEL ALEXANDRE A.; MARTINS,JÚLIO MANUEL C..
Abstract: Introduction: The aim of the study was to compare the effects of ten-week multicomponent training with different exercise frequencies on body composition (BC) and physical fitness (PF) in overweight and obese young children. Methods: 40 children, aged 12-15 (14.77±1.49), were randomly selected and assigned to experimental groups to train three times/week (EG1) or two times/week (EG2) for 10 weeks and a CG group (no training program). Results: It was shown that experimental groups (EG1 and EG2) improved similarly aerobic capacity (3.8% and 3.5%, respectively), muscular strength (29.7% and 25.2%), flexibility (6.1% and 9.9%), body mass index (5.0% and 4.6%), and body fat (6.4% and 5.6%) from pre- to post-training. CG group showed no significant...

Spray-dried porcine plasma added to diets contaminated with aflatoxins and fumonisins shows beneficial effects to piglet health Anais da ABC (AABC)
MÜLLER,LUCIELI K.F.; PAIANO,DIOVANI; BOTTARI,NATHIELI B.; SANTURIO,JANIO M.; ZAMPAR,ALINE; SCHETINGER,MARIA R.C.; ZANETTE,RÉGIS A.; MENDES,RICARDO E.; GLORIA,EDUARDO M.; BALDISSERA,MATHEUS D.; SILVA,ALEKSANDRO S. DA.
Abstract This study was aimed to analyze the effects of spray-dried porcine plasma (SDPP) on the health of post weaning piglets challenged with diets contaminated with aflatoxins and fumonisins. Fifty-six male piglets (7.15 ± 0.61 kg) were allocated in four groups: CTL group received a regular diet; SDPP group received a regular diet and 6% SDPP; MYC group received a diet containing 300 µg/kg aflatoxins and 8,000 µg/kg fumonisins; group MYC+SDPP received 300 µg/kg aflatoxins, 8,000 µg/kg fumonisins and 6% SDPP. The animals that received the experimental diet containing mycotoxins (MYC group) had lower weight gain at the end of the experiment compared to the other treatments. Animals receiving SDPP showed decreased urea levels throughout the experiment...

Oregano essential oil (Origanum vulgare) to feed laying hens and its effects on animal health Anais da ABC (AABC)
MIGLIORINI,MARCOS J.; BOIAGO,MARCEL M.; ROZA,LENILSON F.; BARRETA,MAURICIO; ARNO,ALESSANDRA; ROBAZZA,WEBER S.; GALVÃO,ALESSANDRO C.; GALLI,GABRIELA M.; MACHADO,GUSTAVO; BALDISSERA,MATHEUS D.; WAGNER,ROGER; STEFANI,LENITA C.M.; SILVA,ALEKSANDRO S. DA.
Abstract Abstract: This study evaluated the effect of oregano essential oil added to the feed of commercial laying hens. This research was focused on the analysis of biochemical changes linked to hepatic function, and protein and lipid metabolism. It was used 240 laying hens (59 weeks-old) distributed in a completely randomized design of six treatments (five repetitions with eight birds each). The experiments were constituted by a control treatment (CT) with the inclusion of zinc bacitracin and five treatments of oregano essential oil (OEO: 0, 50, 100, 150, and 200 mg.kg-1), respectively. After 28 days of feeding, an increase on serum levels of total proteins and globulins was observed on groups T150 and T200, as well as an increase on albumin levels on...

Mineral supplementation stimulates the immune system and antioxidant responses of dairy cows and reduces somatic cell counts in milk Anais da ABC (AABC)
WARKEN,AMANDA C.; LOPES,LEANDRO S.; BOTTARI,NATHIELI B.; GLOMBOWSKY,PATRÍCIA; GALLI,GABRIELA M.; MORSCH,VERA M.; SCHETINGER,MARIA ROSA C.; SILVA,ALEKSANDRO S. DA.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the use of subcutaneous mineral supplementation would affect metabolic parameters, immunological response, milk quality and composition of dairy cows in the postpartum period. Twelve pregnant primiparous Holstein cows, were divided into two groups: six animals supplemented with the mineral complex (magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, selenium and copper), and six animals used as controls. Milk samples were collected every two other weeks postpartum up to sixty days of lactation to analyze composition and quality. Blood samples were collected, and the levels of ketone bodies, total proteins, glucose, albumin, and globulin were measured. The catalase and superoxide enzymes, reactive oxygen species, tumor...

Investigation of mad honey use as an alternative treatment in patients admitted to the pulmonary clinic: Ordu, Turkey example BABT
Ugur,Hacer Gok; Sıralı,Recep; Tekgul,Ahmet Talha; Efe,Burcin.
Abstract This study assessed mad honey use in alternative treatments. The universe of this descriptive study was patients admitted to the pulmonary disease clinic located in the Ordu province of the Black Sea region between 15 December 2014 and 15 February 2015. We did not use a sampling method and patients who agreed to participate were included in the study (n=353). In order to collect the data, we used a questionnaire prepared by the researchers. In this study, 77% of the participants stated that mad honey was beneficial to health, 44.5% used mad honey, and 53.5% consumed it daily. Furthermore, 28.7% used mad honey for asthma, 6.4% for cough, 12.1% for gastrointestinal diseases, and 3.2% for hypertension. There was a significant relationship between the...

Occurrence and molecular characterization of different virulence-associated genes of Cronobacter sakazakii isolates from some foods and dust samples Ciência Rural
Demirci,Ülkü; Tekiner,İsmail Hakkı; Çakmak,Burcu; Özpınar,Haydar.
ABSTRACT: Among the Cronobacter genus, Cronobacter sakazakii is the most common species posing a severe health risk for newborns, infants and children. Some infant formulas, cereal-based foods, and food production environments may be the potential reservoirs of C. sakazakii. This pathogen possesses different virulence factors encoded by different virulence genes. Therefore, characterizing these genes is important for distinguishing pathogenic strains from nonpathogenic ones. The objective of this study was to characterize some virulence genes [OmpA, OmpX, zpx, and Cpa] by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in C. sakazakii isolates from a total of 120 samples (20 each of milk powder, starch, rice flour, semolina, infant formula and dust samples from...

Drying process of Lentinula edodes: Influence of temperature on β-glucan content and adjustment of mathematical models Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Timm,Thaynã Gonçalves; Pasko,Rafaely Zenni; Campos,Ceci Sales da Gama; Helm,Cristiane Vieira; Tavares,Lorena Benathar Ballod.
ABSTRACT The importance of the functional properties of edible mushrooms as a food product has been increasing and several studies have emerged to address this issue. However, the application of a conservation process is required since this is a product with a high moisture level. The aim of this study was to investigate the drying kinetics of shiitake Lentinula edodes mushrooms by means of the construction of drying curves, the mathematical modeling of the drying curves, and correlating the data obtained with the β-glucan content in order to observe the influence of temperature on its content. The drying temperatures of 35 ºC, 45 ºC and 55 ºC were applied to construct the drying curves and the β-glucan contents of the samples were quantified. Mathematical...
