The wide spectra of colonizing microorganism, likewise Burkholderia pseudomallei, has been found in different habitats, and presenting distinct activity, as exerting physiological functions among plants, or as a pathogen for man, animals and also as a phytopathogen. A common disease of men and animals caused by B. pseudomallei, melioidosis, is a severe morbidity that usually culminates in the host death. Soil samples from different areas in the Amapá state, in northern Brazil, were screened for environmental microorganisms to assess potential antimicrobial activity aiming at biotechnological applications. Among the prospected microorganisms, B. pseudomallei was isolated from high humidity soils, mangrove, which is rich in organic materials, produced by the... |

The high values of SMRP indicate reduction of soil water infiltration and high levels of soil erosion. Integrated CLS include forest and pastures. The SMRP of soils managed with CLS can be affected by cattle trampling (Fontaneli et al., 2010). However, by taking advantage of the fertilizers residues applied in annual crops, pastures cropped in these systems have greater vegetative growth and root, which may favor the mitigation effect of trampling. The forest dry leaves and living roots can increase the SOM of these systems, improving soil structure. |

aBSTRACT: Several chemicals occur together in the environment as a result of different sources. However, in the great majority of risk assessments only a single chemical is considered. Diflubenzuron (DFB), the most used compound to combat parasites in aquaculture, can be toxic for non-target species. When degraded, it generates p-chloroaniline (PCA), a potentially carcinogenic and mutagenic compound. This study analyzed the activity of the enzymes: Catalase (CAT), acid and alkaline Phosphatase (ACP/ALP) of the gills of the Tilapia fish (Oreochromis niloticus) exposed to different concentrations of the mixture of DFB and PCA in the presence and absence of soil. |

The effect of different methods of soil preparation on soil moisture loss, weed growth and soil resistance to penetration has been quantified for the Latosols of Bebedouro experiment station of CPATSA-EMBRAPA, Petrolina,PE, Brazil. The methods studied are manual preparation, preparation by animal drawn wheeled tool carrier and tractorized implements. The drying characteristics of three fields with different soil physical properties were studied prior to conducting the experiment. The different methods of soil preparation caused the soil moisture loss differently. The plot prepared by animal drawn tool carrier retained more moisture for longer time even at deeper layers. The soil resistance to penetration on the surface increased with time with little... |
