| Metabolism of the isoflavones biochanin A, genistein, formononetin, daidzein, equol and prunetin, the lignans matairesinol, secoisolariciresinol, enterodiol and enterolactone and the coumestan coumestrol was investigated to study the metabolism of phytoestrogens in dairy cows, and the possibilities to influence the content in milk. Organic dairy milk production requires grazing of cows, which results in a feed ration that is pasture-based. The breed that is kept by far the most for dairy production in Europe is the Holstein Friesian cow, a high-yielding dairy cow. This cattle breed has been developed in North America and was selected for its high milk yield. | The aim of this work is to evaluate the impact of oil cake amendments (argan, neem, castor cake and ground castor) on control of Meloidogyne spp., soil fertility, and the growth and yield of cucumber grown under greenhouse in south-western Morocco. The results show that oil cakes induce a reduction in gall formation, soil nematodes density, root rot infestation, and an improvement of plant height and yield as compared to the control. Argan cake improved yield by 112% compared to the control. Generally, argan cake gave better results compared to the other treatments. | The EU legislation on organic farming was aimed at forcing the use of organic seeds in organic production. However, there are striking differences in its implementation across the EU and the use of organic seeds is still sparse. This study examines the use of organic seeds for sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) production in a pilot study for the Netherlands and Spain. In order to identify existing incentives and constraints, a supply chain analysis is applied, derogation requests for using non-organic seeds are analysed and interviews with stakeholders of the supply chain are conducted. Based on the findings, recommendations are given on how each stakeholder can participate in improving the implementation of the EU law, promoting the use of organic seeds. |
