Two new species of Scyllarid lobsters (Crustacea Decapoda, Palinuridea) from Australia and the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand Naturalis
Holthuis, L.B..
During the preparation of a revision of the family Scyllaridae, two species from Australian and New Zealand waters were received that proved to be new to science. One belongs to the genus Ibacus, the other to Scyllarus. In order to make the names available to other zoologists working with the species, their descriptions are provided herewith. I want to express my sincere thanks to Dr. A. J. Bruce, Director, Heron Island Research Station, Queensland, for the holotype and a paratype of Ibacus brucei new species, with which he provided me. Dr. D. J. G. Griffin, Director, Australian Museum, Sydney, not only allowed me to study the Scyllaridae of his Museum, but also provided me with information on and coloured photographs of additional material of Ibacus...

Notes on the occurrence of some poorly known decapoda (Crustacea) in the Southern North Sea Naturalis
Adema, J.P.H.M.; Creutzberg , F.; Noort, G.J. van.
INTRODUCTION Since April 1972 an ecological trawl-survey programme has been undertaken by the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), Texel, in the southern North Sea with the R. V. "Aurelia". The main object is to obtain information on distribution, density, biomass and fluctuations of crawling or swimming demersal (epibenthic) fauna such as small fishes, shrimps, prawns, crabs, asteroids, ophiuroids and some gastropods, for the evaluation of the role of these carnivores in the benthic ecosystem of the southern North Sea. Sedimentological aspects of the area are described by Creutzberg & Postma (1979). Within the context of the present paper the most important feature is the mesh of 5 x 5 mm2 of the cod end of the 51/2 m beam-trawl used and the...

New and supplementary records of marine Isopoda for the Netherlands and the Southern North Sea since 1956, with a note on Peltogaster paguri (Crustacea, Cirripedia) Naturalis
Adema, J.P.H.M.; Huwae, P.H.M..
INTRODUCTION Part XVI of the Fauna van Nederland, Isopoda & Tanaidacea (Holthuis, 1956), deals with 27 species of Isopoda occurring in salt and/or brackish water. According to Holthuis (1956) the occurrence in the Netherlands of two of these, Sphaeroma serratum (Fabricius, 1787) and Bopyrus squillarum Latreille, 1802, is very doubtful and will remain so, as the material on which the records were based is lost and no new records of these species have been published for the Netherlands. Since 1956 many new data were obtained for several of the remaining 25 species, while 12 species were found for the first time in Dutch waters or in the southern North Sea. The present paper deals with the more interesting finds. Part of the species mentioned here have...

Macrophthalmus (Macrophthalmus) ceratophorus Sakai, 1969 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Brachyura: Ocypodidae) recorded from the Amirante Islands, western Indian Ocean Naturalis
Fransen, C.H.J.M..
A note is presented on the crab Macrophthalmus (Macrophthalmus) ceratophorus Sakai, 1969, formerly only known from the holotype male specimen which was collected in Japanese waters. The species is redescribed on the basis of a large sample, collected from the Amirante Islands in the western Indian Ocean. All specimens were associated with the epizoic lepadid cirriped Octolasmis warwickii Gray, 1825, and an encrusting athecate hydroid.

A case of associated occurrence of the crab Lauridromia inter-media (Laurie, 1906) (Crustacea: Decapoda: Dromiidae) and the actinian Nemanthus annamensis Carlgren, 1943 (Anthozoa: Actiniaria: Nemanthidae) Naturalis
Lavaleye, M.S.S.; Hartog, J.C. den.
Members of the crab family Dromiidae tend to cover their carapace mostly with sponges or colonial tunicates. More rarely are used other objects or organisms such as solitary Tunicata, Zoantharia (= encrusting anemones), valves of Bivalvia, etc.; a review of these is presented. A new association of a dromiid crab Lauridromia intermedia (Laurie, 1906) and an actinian Nemanthus annamensis Carlgren, 1943, is described and discussed. Lauridromia intermedia is recorded for the first time from the continental shelf of East Africa.

A recapitulation of the Nearctic species of Centromerus Dahl (Araneida, Linyphiidae) with remarks on Tunagyna Debilis (Banks) Naturalis
Helsdingen, P.J. van.
In any new region the knowledge of the spider fauna, or of any other group of organisms, has to go through three successive stages. In the beginning there is a period of descriptive activity with many new species recorded and named, in the past usually by several authors independently. In the Nearotic Region this stage may have ended for New England, but this is hardly true for the Far West and the southeastern part. In particular the names of Emerton, McCook, Keyserling, Banks, Petrunkevitch, Crosby, Bishop, Chamberlin, and Ivie, not to mention many others, are forever associated with this period. By building up large collections and giving their finds to the world they have laid the foundations of New World Arachnology. The second stage I would call the...

Biological results of the snellius expedition XXIII. The genus Macrophthalmus (Crustacea, Brachyura) Naturalis
Barnes, R.S.K..
This paper records the species of Macrophthalmus (Ocypodidae, Macrophthalminae) collected by the Snellius Expedition during its exploration of the eastern region of the Malay Archipelago in the years 1929 and 1930. In addition, further material from this area in the collections of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie, Leiden, is included. Full descriptions, figures and synonymies are given for those species recorded below which have not previously been covered by this author in his survey of Macrophthalmus (see Barnes, 1966a; 1966b; 1967; 1968a; 1970). To facilitate this, material of these species has also been examined from the collections of the National Museum, Singapore, the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris, and the British Museum...

Ledoyer, M..
This study deals with Caridean fauna living between the leaves of New-Caledonian seagrassmeadows (Cymodocea sp. principally) from zero to about eight meters and sampled during day and night. Twenty species (all figured) were caught (excluding Alpheidae). All are known. Nevertheless, in some cases, small variations have been observed by comparison with the same species from other areas. Presently, 70 species are recognized from New-Caledonian marine waters, including the 17 species reported in this papier for the first time from that region. Comparison with Caridean fauna of seagrass-meadows of other areas (Australia, Japan, Madagascar) shows a very important resemblance between them.

Some synonymies in old world spiders Naturalis
Helsdingen, P.J. van.
Some species described by Grube and O. Pickard-Cambridge from Siberia and by Thorell from The Netherlands are discussed and partly revised. The following synonymies and new combinations are discussed: Linyphia sagittata Grube = Helophora insignis (Blackwall) ; Linyphia (Bolyphantes) sibirica Grube = Stemonyphantes lineatus (L.) ; Zilla mordax Thorell = Enoplognatha mordax (Thorell) (= Enoplognatha crucifera (Thorell), junior synonym) ; Erigone tarsalis Thorell = Oedothorax fuscus (Blackwall) ; Theridium hasseltii Thorell = Theridion blackwalli O. Pickard-Cambridge; Linyphia taczanowskii O. Pickard-Cambridge = Lepthyphantes trucidans (L. Koch). Lepthyphantes dybowskii (O. Pickard-Cambridge) is redescribed.

Caridean Shrimps found in Land-Locked Saltwater Pools at four Indo-West Pacific Localities (Sinai Peninsula, Funafuti Atoll, Maui and Hawaii Islands), with the description of one new genus and four new species Naturalis
Holthuis, L.B..
At several occasions red coloured caridean shrimps have been reported from tropical land-locked saltwater pools. These pools are situated at some distance from the sea, but, because the level of the water rises and falls with the tides, must have subterranean connections with the sea. The shrimps belong to species that so far have not been found outside this special type of habitat, although some have a rather extensive geographical distribution. Apart from the peculiar habitat in which they are found and apart from their red coloration, there is very little that these species have in common. The 11 species so far found exclusively in these pools belong to 9 different genera and to 5 different families (see also Holthuis, 1963; Chace & Manning, 1972)....

Results of the reexamination of the type specimens of some species belonging to the subfamilies Pontoniinae and Palaemoninae (Crustacea Decapoda Macrura) Naturalis
Holthuis, L.B..
A visit paid in June 1956 to the British Museum (Natural History), London, and to the University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge, England, enabled me to study the types of several species of Pontonid and Palaemonid prawns, the identity of which thusfar was not known with certainty. In the present paper some of the results of these reexaminations are given. I wish to express here my sincere thanks to Dr. Isabella Gordon of the Crustacea Section of the British Museum, and to Dr. C. B. Goodhart of the University Museum of Zoology at Cambridge for the permission to study this valuable material and for their most cordial assistance.

The Isopoda and Tanaidacea of the Netherlands, including the description of a new species of Limnoria Naturalis
Holthuis, L.B..
The Isopod and Tanaidacean Crustacea of the Netherlands have not been treated as a whole since 1889, when Hoek published the second part of his Crustacea Neerlandica dealing with the Isopoda and Amphipoda. Hoek in this paper mentioned 25 species of Isopoda, 9 of which are marine forms, 1 a freshwater form and 15 terrestrial, no Dutch Tanaidacea were known to Hoek. At present we know 49 species of Dutch Isopoda, of which 20 are marine, 2 are freshwater forms and 27 are terrestrial, furthermore three species of Tanaidacea are known from this country. The present paper is an enumeration of all Dutch species of the two above mentioned groups, with their distribution within our country and, if necessary, with remarks on their synonymy and ecology. A volume on...
