Naturalis
Nieuwenhuijsen, H.; Reemer, M.; Peeters, T.; Smit, J.; Eck, A. van.

The butterflies of Sulawesi: annotated checklist for a critical island fauna Naturalis
Vane-Wright, R.I.; Jong, R. de.
All species and subspecies of butterflies recorded from Sulawesi and neighbouring islands (the Sulawesi Region) are listed. Notes are added on their general distribution and hostplants. References are given to key works dealing with particular genera or higher taxa, and to descriptions and illustrations of early stages. As a first step to help with identification, coloured pictures are given of exemplar adults of almost all genera. General information is given on geological and ecological features of the area. Combined with the distributional information in the list and the little phylogenetic information available, endemicity, links with surrounding areas and the evolution of the butterfly fauna are discussed.

De hooiwagen Nelima gothica nieuw voor Nederland (Opiliones) Naturalis
Noordijk, J.; Wijnhoven, H.; Bink, J..

Smit, J.T.; Reemer, M.; Renema, W..
Five new species of the hoverfly genus Cheilosia for the Netherlands (Diptera: Syrphidae) Five species of the hoverfly genus Cheilosia are reported here for the first time for the fauna of the Netherlands. Keys are provided for the identification of the northwestern European species of the canicularis and proxima complexes. Cheilosia aerea Dufour, 1848 was only found in Zuid-Limburg, the most southeastern part of the Netherlands. Except for one specimen from 1943, all 14 specimens were collected in the 1990s. Cheilosia himantopus (Panzer, 1798) occurs in Zuid-Limburg and around Winterswijk in the east of the Netherlands. The species has the same distribution as C. canicularis (Panzer, 1801), with which it had been confused for a long time. Cheilosia...

Termitophilous Scarabs of the Tribe Corythoderini: A taxonomic review (Coleoptera: Aphodiidae) Naturalis
Tangelder, I.R.M.; Krikken, J..
The scarab tribe Corythoderini is reviewed. All its members appear associated with termites, probably in a symphilous way; the host records all pertain to Odontotermes species. The known range of the Corythoderini falls within the range of the host genus : Africa to Burma. The phylogeny of the corythoderine genera is discussed. Comparative remarks on other termitophilous scarabs are added. The closest known relatives of the Corythoderini are the Termitoderini, trib. nov. The tribe Corythoderini is diagnosed, inter alia, by means of a key to the subfamilies and tribes of the Aphodiidae. The corythoderine genera are diagnosed and keyed. All the species are keyed, and the new species are described. The characters of the genera and of the species of the two...

Provisional checklist of the astigmatic mites of the Netherlands (Acari: Oribatida: Astigmatina) Naturalis
Siepel, H.; Cremers, H.J.W.M.; Vierbergen, G..
Astigmatic mites probably form the most diverse cohort of mites. At present the former order of Astigmatina is ranked within the suborder Oribatida or moss mites. However astigmatic mites occupy a much wider range of habitats than other oribatid mites: from marine coasts to stored food, plant bulbs and houses. The vast majority live as commensals or parasites on a variety of hosts, ranging from insects to birds and mammals, inhabiting the fur, feathers, skin and even lungs and stomach. This first checklist for the Netherlands contains 262 species, but many more are to be expected. Brief data on occurrence and nomenclature are provided for each species.

Grutters, M.A.J.; Versijde, R.; Bakker, W.H.; Groenendijk, D.; Bouwman, J.H..

The exotic jellyfish Blackfordia virginica introduced into the Netherlands (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa) Naturalis
Faasse, M.A.; Melchers, M..
In August 2014 the exotic jellyfish Blackfordia virginica was captured in the harbour of Amsterdam. This is the first confirmed record of this species in the Netherlands, although in October 2013 a possible specimen was filmed and released. This indicates that the species might be established in the Amsterdam area, although repeated introduction with ballast water cannot be ruled out. In September 2014 hydrozoan polyp colonies closely resembling those of B. virginica were collected near IJmuiden in the Noordzeekanaal, a canal connecting Amsterdam with the North Sea at IJmuiden.

Fig wasps from Israeli ficus Sycomorus and related East African species (Hymenoptera, Chalcidoidea) 2. Agaonidae (concluded) and Sycophagini Naturalis
Wiebes, J.T..
The study of many new samples of fig wasps collected in Africa by Dr. J. Galil of Tel-Aviv University, Israel, revealed the unexpected fact that Ceratosolen arabicus Mayr and C. galili Wiebes develop together in the same receptacles of Ficus sycomorus L. Dr. Galil made experiments on the host relations of these species and other inhabitants of the Sycomore receptacles, the results of which will be published by him. The identification of the Agaonidae and the Torymidae Sycophagini from Dr. Galil's catches, and some notes on their distribution, are given in the present paper. Unless otherwise indicated, all samples here recorded were reared from Ficus sycomorus L. (det. Galil). The insect material is preserved in the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie...

Schut, D.; Niemeijer, I..
