Cecropiaceae a new family of the Urticales Naturalis
Berg, C.C..
The problem of the correct position of the Conocepbaloideae, a subfamily of the Moraceae in Engler's system, but transferred to the Urticaceae by Corner (1962), can be satisfactorily solved by assigning the rank of family to this taxon, to be named Cecropiaceae. Diagnoses of and a key to the six genera constituting this family (Cecropia, Coussapoa, Musanga, Myrianthus, Poikilospermum, and Pourouma) are given. The classification of the Urticales and the relationship between the Cecropiaceae and both Moraceae and Urticaceae are discussed. A key to the families of the Urticales is given.

Myosotis palustris en M. laxa in Nederland Naturalis
Berg, C.C.; Kaastra, R.C..
In members of Myosotis ser. Palustres Popov occurring in the Netherlands 3 distinct taxa can be distinguished on the basis of karyological, morphological and ecological studies: 1 M. palustris (L.) L. subsp. palustris, palustris, M. palustris subsp. nemorosa (Besser) C. C. Berg & Kaastra, stat. nov. et comb. nov., and M. laxa Lehmann subsp. cespitosa (C. F. Schultz) Hylander ex Nordhagen. Distribution maps and a key to these taxa are given. The chromosome numbers are: 2n = 22 and 44 (endoploid) for M. palustris subsp. nemorosa; 2n = 64 and 66 for M. palustris subsp. palustris; 2n = 88 for M. laxa subsp. cespitosa; 2n = 55 for a putative hybrid of M. palustris subsp. nemorosa and M. laxa subsp. cespitosa.

Moraceae: Ficeae Naturalis
Berg, C.C.; Corner, E.J.H..
A pantropical genus of terrestrial and hemi-epiphytic trees and shrubs or climbers with a unique inflorescence (syconium, fig). This forms the basis of a unique and complex pollination system requiring flowering phenologies that make mature inflorescences highly important as food source for forest animals. Large-scale economic value is confined to production of indoor and outdoor ornamental trees. The genus, the largest of the 37 genera of the family, comprises about 735 species worldwide and 367 currently recognised in the Malesian region. The introductory part consists of chapters on distribution, ecology, classification, morphology, pollen morphology (by J.M. Langeveld & R.W.J.M. van der Ham), microscopic characters of the leaf, wood anatomy (by...

Redefinition of Ficus schwarzii and two new species of Ficus (Moraceae) Naturalis
Berg, C.C..
Ficus schwarzii as defined by Corner proved to be too heterogeneous and has to be split up into at least two entities, the Sulawesi one still heterogeneous and the other widespread one to be described as a new species, F. rosulata. Re-examination of herbarium material led to the discovery of a new species: F. kalimantana.

Hollander, G. den; Berg, C.C..
During a study of the Podostemonaceae for the Flora of Suriname a specimen of Apinagia was found which could not be placed in one of the species recognized by van Royen (1951, 1953, 1954). The specimen forms part of a mixed collection mainly consisting of Mourera fluviatilis Aubl. but also containing a specimen of Apinagia longifolia (Tul.) van Royen (sub Irwin et al. 55346A in K and NY).

Some remarks on the classification and differentiation of Moraceae Naturalis
Berg, C.C..
With the appearance in 1889 of Engler’s treatment of the Urticales in “Die natürlichen Pflanzenfamilien” there came a pause in the interesting development of the classification of this group, which was defined, albeit somewhat vaguely, by A.L. de Jussieu in 1789 in his “Genera Plantarum” as the order Urticeae. Since the 1830’s, many, including Gaudichaud, Trécul, Miquel, Bureau, Eichler, Baillon, and Bentham, have contributed to the establishment of the Engler system which until recently has been generally accepted. An important moment in this history was the appearance of Trécul’s treatment of the then most problematical group, the “family” Artocarpeae. Trécul (1847) considered the “families” which at that time were distinguished within the “class”...
