| Objetivou-se avaliar o impacto da inclusão de informações genômicas nos ganhos em acurácia no momento da seleção e a associação dos valores genéticos na seleção com futuras predições de alta acurácia (rEBV). As características idade para atingir 110 kg (ID110), conversão alimentar (CA) e número de leitões viáveis ao quinto dia (LV5) foram estudadas nas raças Landrace (LA) e Large White (LW). As análises foram realizadas reproduzindo um período de avaliação genética semanal em que tanto o valor genético tradicional (EBV)quanto o valor genético genômico (GEBV)dos animais genotipados estivessem disponíveis . | Abstract: Umbilical hernia is one of the most frequent anatomical defects in pigs in which abdominal contents protrude through the umbilical ring. This condition is considered to have a multifactorial basis in which environmental, infectious and genetic factors play a role. However, a better understanding about the genetic components involved in the umbilical hernia development has not yet been achieved. Although a few studies have mapped QTL for umbilical hernia, just a few candidate genes were reported. | Abstract: Femoral head separation (FHS) is characterized by the detachment of growth plate (GP) and articular cartilage, occurring in tibia and femur. However, the molecular mechanisms involved with this condition are not completely understood. Therefore, genes and biological processes (BP) involved with FHS were identified in 21-day-old broilers through RNA sequencing of the femoral GP. 13,487 genes were expressed in the chicken femoral head transcriptome of normal and FHS-affected broilers. From those, 34 were differentially expressed (DE; FDR ≤0.05) between groups, where all of them were downregulated in FHS-affected broilers. | Abstract: In South America, the evolutionary history of influenza A virus (IAV) in swine has been obscured by historically low levels of surveillance, and this has hampered the assessment of the zoonotic risk of emerging viruses. The extensive genetic diversity of IAV in swine observed globally has been attributed mainly to bidirectional transmission between humans and pigs. We conducted surveillance in swine in Brazil during 2011?2020 and characterized 107 H1N1, H1N2, and H3N2 IAVs. | Os problemas locomotores estão entre os principais fatores que resultam em perdas econômicas para a suinocultura industrial (1,2). Entre os principais prejuízos, está a diminuição da produtividade (3) e a preocupação com bem-estar animal, já que esses animais sentem dor e muitas vezes não conseguem ter acesso à água e alimentação. Ademais, nas últimas décadas, houve um aumento na condenação de carcaças em abatedouros devido às artrites, sendo que se for considerada apenas as assépticas, a osteocondrose é a mais frequente (4).
