A population of the brown alga Padina pavonica has been studied in the locality of Cap Zebib (North of Tunisia) between September 2000 and August 2001. Abiotic factors (temperature ,salinity , oxygen ) and biotic ones (weight, height, diameter, biomass, and fertility) were carried out . The results showed that temperature varied between 12°C (February) and 24.5 °C (July). Salinity has recorded a little variation during the year .Oxygen ranged between 4.4 mg/l( March) and 10mg/l (November).Padina pavonica changed monthly . The weight ranged between 0.39g (February) and 18.8 g (August) . Minimum and maximum height were recorded respectively in January (2.07 cm) and September (7.3 cm) . Diameter varied between 1.32 cm (December) and 8.9 cm (August) .... |

In order to study the benthic ecology of the “Messioua banc” (30 NM east off Zarzis, Southern Tunisia), a traditional Tunisian sponge fishing ground, four marine campaigns were conducted with the R/V “Hannibal” from October 2000 to August 2001. The objectives of three of these campaigns were field validation, focusing on the sampling of the Posidonia oceanica meadow and of the sponge population. However the goal of the fourth one, with the use of a multi-beam sonar SEABAT 9001 (Reson Co.), was the mapping of bottom of the surveyed area and the scanning of the Posidonia meadow and its sponge population. The field work allowed the study of sixteen stations covered by a dense meadow extending from 21 to 33 m depth, which present the highest density of... |

A new osseous part, the opercula bone, is used to estimate the age of 2099 round sardine Sardinella aurita, Valenciennes, 1847 captured in the Cap Bon area. The period of sampling, with a monthly rhythm, is spread out June 1994 at December 1995 and from June to September 1996. The relation between the length of fish (LF) and the ray of opercula (RT) is LF = 22,25 RT 0,994. The validation of the age estimate method is carried out directly by the monthly follow-up of average marginal lengthening and the percentage of individuals with marginal hyaline zone. This study showed that the round sardine has a double cycle of growth per year. The analysis of the key age-length shows that the females dominate in the majority of the age groups. The parameters of... |

Several marine campaigns aiming to collect marine demosponges for specific research projects on their taxonomy and biogeography and to study the phenology and distribution of Posidonia oceanica a long the Tunisian coasts were conducted these last 10 years. They allowed a scuba diving prospecting of the infra and circalittoral zones of 555 marine stations. This field work was an occasion to describe some bottom’s associations, to highlight the general state of the main communities, specially the Posidonia and the coralligenous formations, and to draw up a list of their mega benthic species. In general, both biota are well preserved along the Tunisian coasts. except for some black spots, mainly the one of the gulf of Gabes, where detailed analysis showed... |

Monthly variability of zooplankton and ichthyoplankton abundance and composition were studied in 6 stations in the Gulf of Tunis between February 2003 and January 2004. Plankton trawls were horizontal, in surface and at night. Study area seems to be influenced by climatic conditions and the outflow of Majreda River that affect the surface temperature and salinity. Copepods, with many abundance picks in the year, formed the most abundant group (84%) followed by cladocerans (8%) and chaetognaths (3%). The swarms of appendicularians, cladocerans and medusas then for zoe are in spring. The highest fish spawning periods was in summer then the highest larva abundance was in winter and summer. |
