Ocorrência de Rachiplusia nu (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) em fumo (Nicotiana tabacum L.) no Rio Grande do Sul Neotropical Entomology
Specht,Alexandre; Guedes,Jerson V.C.; Sulzbach,Felipe; Vogt,Tatiane G..

Biological aspects of Autoplusia egena (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae, Plusiinae) Neotropical Entomology
Specht,Alexandre; Vogt,Tatiane G.; Corseuil,Elio.
Autoplusia egena (Guenée) is a moth distributed throughout the Western hemisphere. The larvae have already been found feeding on several different plant families, including important crops such soybeans and beans. To contribute to the knowledge of its biology in laboratory conditions, and considering the duration and the morphometry of each development stage, a laboratorial rearing was accomplished at 25 ± 1°C, 70 ± 10% RH and 14h photophase. The larvae were fed with black bean leaves and the adults were fed with a honey solution at 10%. The results, expressed by the mean (± SE), for the periods of each stage were: egg 3.0 ± 0.00 d; larva 15.7 ± 1.25 d; pre-pupa 1.9 ± 0.05 d; pupa 8.8 ± 0.09 d and adult: longevity 12.1 ± 0.95 d, pre-oviposition 5.4 ± 0.50...

Specht,Alexandre; Corseuil,Elio.

Interseasonal variation of Chrysodeixis includens (Walker, [1858]) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) populations in the Brazilian Savanna Rev. Bras. entomol.
Santos,Sabrina Raisa dos; Specht,Alexandre; Carneiro,Eduardo; Paula-Moraes,Silvana Vieira de; Casagrande,Mirna Martins.
Abstract Chrysodeixis includens (Walker, [1858]) is currently the main plusiine pest in the Americas, not only because of the damage caused to soybean, but also with several crop species in a broad geographical range. However, its population dynamics is still poorly understood, despite outbreak records that are common across different locations in the Americas. The current study aimed at identifying phenological patterns of C. includens emphasizing its differences among the three years of sampling effort in an intercropping area of the Brazilian Savanna. Thereafter, we tested whether the El Niño size effect, meteorological factors, or soybean, corn and wheat cycles, are better predictors of its monthly abundance. The insects were collected with a light...

ABSTRACT This study presents registers of Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) occurrence to assess its spatial and temporal distribution in Brazil. We used data from collections, especially from the Southern Region, systematic collections in Rio Grande do Sul, occasional collections of caterpillars and adults in different regions of Brazil, as well as literature registers. We conclude that the introduction of H. armigera in Brazil probably occurred before October 2008. We also register that in August 2012 H. armigera was already present from the extreme southern part (Rio Grande do Sul) to the extreme northern part (Amapá) of Brazil.

A new cecidogenous species of many-plumed moth (Alucitidae) associated with Cordiera A. Rich. ex DC. (Rubiaceae) in the Brazilian Cerrado Rev. Bras. Zool.
Moreira,Gilson R.P.; Pereira,Cristiano M.; Becker,Vitor O.; Specht,Alexandre; Gonçalves,Gislene L..
ABSTRACT Larvae of many-plumed moths (Alucitidae), especially in the world-wide genus Alucita Linnaeus, 1758 are known as borers or gall-inducers on flowers, fruits and shoots of a few dicotyledonous families, including Bignoniaceae, Caprifoliaceae and Rubiaceae. However, there is no study available on the biology of the monotypic, Neotropical genus Prymnotomis Meyrick, 1931 except for its original description that was based on a single male, the holotype of Prymnotomis crypsicroca Meyrick, 1931 from Espirito Santo, Brazil. We describe here a second species for this genus, Prymnotomis cecidicola sp. nov. whose larvae induce galls on Cordiera elliptica (Cham.) Kuntze (Rubiaceae), a dioecious plant with dimorphic inflorescences found in the Brazilian...
