Abiotic environmental conditions for germination and development of gametophytes of Cyathea phalerata Mart. (Cyatheaceae) Acta Botanica
Marcon,Catiuscia; Silveira,Tatieli; Schmitt,Jairo Lizandro; Droste,Annette.
ABSTRACT In order to successfully establish themselves in their natural environment, ferns need habitats with abiotic conditions that are suitable for spore germination and gametophyte development. The objective of this study was to assess the influence of abiotic factors on the initial development of Cyathea phalerata cultivated in vitro. Spore germination and gametophyte development were assessed under varying conditions of surface sterilization, pH, temperature and photoperiod. Exogenous contamination was eliminated by sterilizing spores with 2.5 % NaClO for 15 min and sowing them into a culture medium supplemented with nystatin. Spores germinated at all pHs tested. Gametophytic development was faster in acidic pHs. Cultures at 25 °C exhibited the...

Population dynamics and reproductive phenology of a harvestman in a tidal freshwater wetland Anais da ABC (AABC)
IGLESIAS,PATRICIA P.; PEREYRA,MARTÍN O..
Abstract There is a great amount of ecological information for terrestrial arthropods in several types of habitats, but few studies have focused on populations living in tidal freshwater wetlands. During a two-year field survey, we studied the temporal dynamics of the harvestman Discocyrtus prospicuus inhabiting a freshwater wetland exposed to predictable tides and unpredictable floods. We also explored the effects of temperature, precipitation, and tide level on the population dynamics and reproductive phenology. Our findings are markedly different from those reported in other harvestman species living in different habitats and also from conspecific populations living in the mainland. Adults, subadults, and juveniles remain active throughout the year,...

The influence of environmental variables in the reproductive performance of Macrobrachium amazonicum (Heller, 1862) (Caridea: Palaemonidae) females in a continental population Anais da ABC (AABC)
PANTALEÃO,JOÃO ALBERTO F.; CARVALHO-BATISTA,ABNER; TEODORO,SARAH S.A.; COSTA,ROGÉRIO C..
ABSTRACT Macrobrachium amazonicum is a commercially important freshwater prawn with a high degree of reproductive plasticity. The species is classified into two groups: coastal populations, with larger individuals exhibiting high fecundity and needing brackish water for larval development; and continental populations, with smaller specimens exhibiting low fecundities and completing metamorphosis in freshwater. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of environmental factors in the fecundity, egg size and volume, and reproductive output in females of M. amazonicum from a continental population during a two-year period. We also compared our results with those obtained for other continental and coastal populations. Reproductive parameters...

Spatial and temporal distribution and abundance of two species of Persephona (Decapoda: Brachyura: Leucosiidae) on the southern coast of the state of São Paulo, Brazil Biota Neotropica
Perroca,Júlia Fernandes; Herrera,Daphine Ramiro; Costa,Rogerio Caetano da.
Abstract: Crabs of the genus Persephona are intensely captured in shrimp fisheries as bycatch in the Cananéia region off the coast of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The analysis of the spatial and temporal distribution of Persephona punctata and Persephona mediterranea could provide information about variation in the abundance of these species, as well as the environmental variables affecting their distribution and the existence of a possible habitat partitioning. Using a shrimp fishery boat equipped with double-rig nets, crabs were monthly captured from July 2012 to June 2014 in seven sites: four in the coastal area adjacent to the Cananéia region and three in the Mar Pequeno estuarine area. The abundances of both species were compared according to...

Plasticity in the timing of activity in the Red-rumped Agouti, Dasyprocta leporina (Mammalia: Rodentia), in the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil Biota Neotropica
Magalhães,Laura Martins; Srbek-Araujo,Ana Carolina.
Abstract Timing of activity is a consequence of adaptations to daily and seasonal changes in the environment and examining these patterns is important to better understand the temporal niches of the species. Here we examine temporal activity in the Red-rumped Agouti (Dasyprocta leporina) in two fragments of Atlantic Forest and those factors that influence the circadian rhythm in the study areas. Camera traps were used to gather data in two protected areas (one montane and other coastal) in the state of Espírito Santo, southeastern Brazil. A total of 49 photos were taken in the mountains and 152 in the coastal area. Activity patterns were diurnal and bimodal, and animals were active for 14-15 hours each day. Activity peaked in the morning soon after sunrise...

Комплексы гетеротрофных микроорганизмов прибережного мелководья бухты Казачья (Чёрное море) IBSS Repository
Смирнова, Л. Л..
Aspergillus, Penicillium, Phoma, Mucor.

Evaluation of biomarkers in oyster larvae in natural and polluted conditions ArchiMer
Damiens, Gautier; His, Edouard; Gnassia Barelli, Mauricette; Quiniou, Francoise; Romeo, Michèle.
Crassostrea gigas D-shaped larvae were subjected to different conditions of temperature and salinity for 24 h and four biomarkers (acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) levels, glutathione S-transferase (GST) and catalase (CAT) activities) were measured. AChE activity decreased when salinity increased from 25 to 30 and 35 psu at 20 and 25 degreesC. Temperature did not seem to have an influence on AChE activity. TBARS levels increased as a function of salinity when the temperature was maintained at 20 degreesC, whereas at 25 degreesC no effect of salinity could be observed. Variations in GST and CAT activities were not significant with salinity and temperature except that catalase activity was higher at 25...

Endogenous versus exogenous factors: What matters for vent mussel communities? ArchiMer
Sarrazin, Jozee; Portail, Marie; Legrand, E.; Cathalot, Cecile; Laes, Agathe; Lahaye, Noe; Sarradin, Pierre-marie; Husson, Berengere.
The factors influencing the structure of hydrothermal communities are not necessarily similar across geographical regions and vent fields. In the present study, we explore the role of environmental conditions on vent community structure at local and regional spatial scales, focusing on the assemblages dominated by the engineer species Bathymodiolus azoricus. Their presence in several vent fields on the northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR) represents a unique opportunity to compare their associated fauna and to better understand large-scale biodiversity patterns. Two types of factors were considered: exogenous ones such as the presence of biogeographical barriers, depth, and distance between sites, and those linked to the intrinsic characteristics of each...
