Near accidents with agricultural vehicles, machinery and equipment in Austria in the year 2013 CIGR Journal
Kogler, Robert.
Near accidents are in the lowest stage of the accident pyramid. A near accident is defined as an unplanned event, which includes a potential accident risk, but does not bring any injury or property damage with it. The consideration of near accident plays a very significant role in accident prevention. Near accident research provides an acceptable tool to determine safety deficiencies, potential risks and hidden dangers in various work areas early enough to avoid actual accidents. The aim of the study was to identify safety weaknesses of agricultural and forestry vehicles, machinery and equipment which almost led to an accident with workers in agriculture and forestry in Austria. Also to detect weaknesses and deficits in the design to derive improvements in...

Early Trends, Current Status and Future Prospects of Farm Mechanization in Asia CIGR Journal
Rehman, Tanzeel; Khan, Muhammad Usman.
During the last five decades Asia has made considerable development in the field of agricultural machinery. During the year 1960 the condition of mechanization was very poor and most of the farm operations were performed manually. A positive correlation between the farm power availability and the productivity was observed during past 3 decades for several Asian nations including China, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. The previous trends have shown that the Pakistan, India and Bangladesh have experienced only the selective farm mechanization which was found to be initially limited to the use of heavy tractors only. In addition to the full-scale tractors, China, India and Bangladesh have adopted the power tillers and small-scale tractors to co-op with the...

HEAT-APPLICATOR MACHINE FOR WEED CONTROL REA
Spagnolo,Roger T.; Custódio,Tiago V.; Morais,César S. de; Reis,Ângelo V. dos; Machado,Antônio L. T..
ABSTRACT Pesticide environmental risks and increased weed resistance have encouraged studies for alternatives to herbicides. Among these are weed thermal control methods by controlled heat application machines. Thus, this study aimed to test a prototype of heat-applicator machine as a function of changes in gas pressure, travel speed, and tire traffic effect on plants. Then, three experimental factors were tested: gas pressure (98, 196, and 245 kPa), travel speed (0.56, 0.78, and 1.17 m s−1), and tire traffic effect on plants (with and without traffic). The results showed that tire traffic effect on plants and subsequent heat application had no effect on control rate. Weed control rates reached levels considered satisfactory using a heat application speed...

SHIFTS AND HARVESTING SYSTEMS ON QUALITY OF IMPURITIES SAMPLES IN SUGARCANE REA
Alcantara,Aline S.; Ormond,Antonio T. S.; Sousa Júnior,Paulo R. de; Silva,Rouverson P. da; Kazama,Elizabeth H..
ABSTRACT Semi-mechanical and mechanical harvesting methods may influence the content of impurities in harvested sugarcane. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of three mechanical methods of sugarcane harvesting: one semi-mechanical, and two mechanical ones - self-performed and outsourced, during three working shifts. As quality indicators, both mineral and vegetal impurities were accounted. About 50 random samples were collected in the studied area during 35 harvest days and in three working shifts, for each harvesting method. Mineral impurities showed similar behavior for both self-performed and outsourced mechanical harvesting, thus displaying a low variability. On the other hand, vegetal impurities showed to be unstable for all three shifts....
