| The aim of this paper is to compare three different methods for counting white blood cells [WBC] (Natt and Herrick method, estimation with 1,000 and 2,000 erythrocytes) and three methods for counting total thrombocytes [TT] (Wojtaszek method, estimation with 1,000 and 2,000 erythrocytes) in a South American freshwater turtle species, Podocnemis expansa, Schweigger 1812 (Reptilia, Pelomedusidae). Direct WBC counts using the Natt and Herrick method showed limitations, which are discussed here. The WBC and TT counts using 1,000 erythrocytes from blood smears are not recommended for Amazon turtles nor other reptilian species, since wide variation in counts can be observed. | The aim of this study was not only to determine the red blood cells parameters, thrombocyte and leukocyte counts in farmed Brycon amazonicus (matrinxã), to compare these parameters among Bryconinae species from literature, and also to investigate the presence of special granulocytic cells in these fish. The results of the blood cells parameters here established for farmed B. amazonicus, a species of great economic importance in Brazilian aquaculture, could help a better understanding of the blood features in natural populations of this Amazon species. | Avaliou-se o comportamento, as respostas sanguíneas de animais confinados recebendo dieta com produto à base de própolis (LLOS). Os tratamentos foram: controle (CON) e dois produtos à base de própolis (LLOSC1) e (LLOSC1+). Mediram-se os comportamentos: comendo (COM), bebendo água (BEB), andando (AND), ruminando em pé (RUEMP), ruminando deitado (RUDET), em pé (EMP) e deitado (DET). Maior tempo em COM, BEB, AND, RUEMP e EMP ocorreu de manhã (MA) e à tarde (TA), e em RUDET e DET à noite (NO) e madrugada (MD). Animais no Lado 1 do confinamento permaneceram mais tempo andando na MA e à NO, sem diferenças para MD, e mais tempo EMP para os do Lado 1 na MA, T e MD, e igual à NO. | This study was conducted to evaluate changes in hematological biomarkers of Nellore cows at different reproductive stages. Fifteen multiparous cows with 4 ± 1 years of age and live weight of 400 ± 50 kg were used at different stages (non-pregnant, in the initial, middle and late pregnancy, at birth, one day postpartum, 30 and 60 days postpartum). | Um experimento foi conduzido, objetivando-se avaliar o efeito do balanço eletrolítico (BER) e a redução da proteína bruta (PB) da ração sobre a frequência respiratória, temperatura cloacal, concentrações de Na+, K+, Cl- e ácido úrico em frangos de corte. Foram utilizados 800 pintos de corte, machos da linhagem Cobb, alojados em 20 boxes, distribuídos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro tratamentos, cinco repetições e 40 aves por unidade experimental. | The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of dietary supplementation with propolis on hematology and number and area of melanomacrophage centers in spleen and kidney of tilapia. | Abstract: This study investigated the physiological effects of a pesticide based on Bacillus thuringiensis (Dipel-WP®) added in the water and diet of Piaractus mesopotamicus during 24 and 48 h. | ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to determine the effect of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, multienzyme composition supplementation on milk yield, quality, blood biochemical parameters of Lithuanian-Black-and-White cows. For this reason 28 cows were divided into four groups (three experimental and one control) each with seven cows fed balanced ration (control group) and following experimental groups: addition of 40g supplement of live yeast with organic selenium (group A); 40g supplement of live yeast with aromatic additives (group B); and 0.2g supplement of multienzyme composition (group C) during a 90 days period. | ABSTRACT Tambaqui,Colossoma macropomum is a fish of primary importance in Brazilian aquaculture and in the Amazon region in particular. The aim of this work is to analyze the combined effects of physical training and levels of dietary cassava (Manihot esculenta) on the hematological parameters, food intake, conversion efficiency, growth ratio and swimming performance of this fish. A diet for tambaqui consisting of 30% cassava caused decreases in weight gain and specific growth rate compared with the control group. | This study evaluates the effects of an acute treatment with a Centella asiatica (CA) extract on the biodistribution of the radiopharmaceutical Na99mTcO4 and on the fixation of technetium-99m on blood constituents. Wistar rats were treated with CA extract and, 1 hour after, Na99mTcO4 was administered; organs/tissues were withdrawn and weighted.
