| The principal objective of the work carried out in the deep waters adjoining the island shelf around Martinique between July 1991 and april 1992 was to establish an initial inventory of potentially exploitable deep benthic resources.The cylindrical lobster pot used during fishing experiments allowed the catch of a varied carcinological marine organisms of which six species at least have economic interest : 5 species of shrimp all belonging to the sub-order of Caridea of the Pandalidae family : Plesionika edwardsi, P. (macropoda) polyacanthomerus, P.laevis, Heterocarpus ensifer and H.laevigatus, and one species of prawn of the Nephropidae family : Eunephrops cadenasi. | From 1986 to 1988 assays have been achieved in Noirmoutier IFREMER station aiming at increasing yield of grow-out of P. japonicus under semi-intensive conditions in earth ponds. Rearing methods were similar to those used in tropical areas, for other peneid species, and in Japan for this species. Yields of 130 to 270g/sq.m. were obtained, with final average weight of 15g. Marginal costs have been lower than marginal production in assays achieved in 4000sq.m. ponds. Pumps and aerators were necessary to achieve this increase in yield. | This study is an attempt to produce an assessment of the impact of shrimp aquaculture in the Mekong Delta (Viet Nam) on mangrove ecosystems. For this exercise we selected two sub-areas (Ca Mau and Tra Vinh provinces) encompassing a variety of land uses and ecological conditions. Twenty stations in Tra Vinh and 15 stations in Ca Mau have been surveyed several times from September 2000 to March 2002. Field investigations included mangrove soils studies, measurements of pH and salinity of the water, analysis of mangrove flora, and density and structure of the vegetation. | Aquaculture of penaeid shrimps holds a major place in productions of animals. New Caledonia takes part to these productions by developing the breeding of Pacific blue shrimp Litopenaeus stylirostris. Nowadays, penaeid larviculture can’t be undertaken unless antibiotics are used. Experiments in the Caledonian Aquacultural Laboratory (LAC IFREMER Saint-Vincent) put across to the development of two antibiotic prophylaxis plans for substitution of erythromycine, one plan with oxytetracycline (hydrochloride), the other plan with trimethoprime-sulfadiazine association. | Haemocytes are the key elements of a complex defence system on which crustacean immunity is largely based. We report here for the first time in a crustacean that haemocytes are involved in the synthesis of antimicrobial peptides similar to those described in other arthropod classes. These molecules isolated from the penaeid shrimp Penaeus vannamei are members of an homogeneous farnily which differ from the antimicrobial peptides previously described in that they combine in a single molecule a proline-rich arninoterminal domain, and a cyclic carboxy-terminal domain containing three intramolecular disulphide bridges. | For several years the fishermen of the West Indies have directed their activities towards new fishing grounds, notably the bathyales zones adjacent to island plateaux up to approximately 1000 metres in depth.
