Naturlig regulering af bestande i naturen foregår hele tiden. Derfor bliver langt fra alle potentielle skadedyr til virkelige skadedyr et givet år eller sted. Planteædende insekter reguleres bl.a. via fødekæden; nedefra gennem planten og oppefra ved deres naturlige fjender. Blandt skadedyrenes naturlige fjender er rovinsekter, edderkopper og rovmider, snyltehvepse (samlet kaldet nyttedyr) samt sygdomme af størst betydning for den naturlige regulering. Den intensive landbrugspraksis i det moderne jordbrug har dog reduceret effekten af disse fjender. Den manglende regulering medvirker til de skadedyrangreb, som opleves i forskellige afgrøder. Zur Regulierung des Kleinen Fruchtwicklers Grapholita lobarzewskii Ragonot Organic Eprints

Several products were tested for their efficacy in control of the apple seed moth (Grapholita lobarzewskii Ragonot). None of them had a good efficacy. With several treatments with Bacillus thuringiensis an efficacy about 50 % could be achieved. An early treatment before egg-laying seem to improve the results. Quassia extract (9 g Quassin/ha/m tree height) gave efficacy about 50-60 % even if treated only once. NeemAzal gave only moderate efficacy (about 40-50 %). Mating disruption method was effective if the populations were not too high when the treatements were started. With high populations there was no sufficient control in the first year of application.

Influence of different soil preparation techniques on organically grown strawberries Organic Eprints

From June 2005 till June 2007 different soil preparation techniques like chiselling and advance sowing of medicinal plants and green manuring were proofed for their influence on reducing plant losses of strawberries caused by root diseases like Phytophthora species and Verticillium dahliae. The variants were combined with potted plants and Frigos. The experiment took place on an organic fruit farm near Stuttgart, Germany, with the strawberry variety ´Elsanta´. Focused on root diseases, habit and yield chiselling combined with Frigos and green manuring combined with potted plants showed the best results. Organic plant raising has been investigated under two previous government funded projects (OF0109 & OF0144) (1, 2) and it was shown in this research that organic ‘transplants’ could be produced for a range of crop species (3, 4, 6, 7). At the LVWO Weinsberg in 1998 and 1999 different scab-protecting-strategies were tested at the variety Jonagold. Some examinations were done about fruit-setting depending on additives to sulphur like algae, vitamin E or Kaliumpermanganat. The conditions of the leaves (damage by scab, intensity of chlorophyll) had a great influence on the number of inflorescences in the following spring. Positive effects by Kaliumpermanganat and Vitamin E were found. In 1999 was the russetting of the fruits higher than in 1998, all combinations with cupper were more strongly russetted than the control, limesulphur was similiar to the control.

Effects of crop management factors and the environment on pest and disease incidence in vegetables Organic Eprints

The Nafferton Factorial Systems Comparison (NFSC) experiments are part of a long-term field trial that compares organic and conventional systems of crop rotation, crop protection and fertility management, in a factorial design. Pest and disease incidence in vegetables in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 season are reported. Cabbage root fly damage was always reduced under organic crop protection, but there were no consistent trends for the effects of fertility management on this pest. Sclerotinia in lettuce was consistently higher under conventional fertility management. Drahtwürmer zählen zu den wichtigsten Schädlingen im Biokartoffelbau. Sie sind ausdauernd und zäh und liessen sich bisher nur über indirekte Massnahmen bekämpfen. Im Video gibt Giselher Grabenweger von Agroscope einen Überblick über die Möglichkeiten wie Fruchtfolge und Bodenbearbeitung. Zudem erklärt er, weshalb stärkereiche Kartoffelsorten von den Drahtwürmern weniger befallen werden. Als Ergänzung zu den indirekten Massnahmen entwickelt Agroscope in Zusammenarbeit mit der HAFL, der Universität Göttingen und mit Unterstützung der Schweizer Kartoffelbranche und dem BLW biologische Bekämpfungsmöglichkeiten. Vergleich verschiedener direkten Regulierungsmöglichkeiten der Trauermücken in der biologischen Topfkräuterproduktion Organic Eprints

Sciarid flies (or fungus gnat, Bradysia sp.) are the most important pests in organic production of potted herbs. Our experiments show, that control with the nematode Steinernema feltiae is most successful, with an efficacy of 69-90 % at 24 °C air temperature. Azadirachtin (Neem-seed oil) could be an alternative under hot condition (> 28 °C). Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, however, showed only a minor effect (1- 54 % efficacy).

Softpest Multitrap. Management of strawberry blossom weevil and European tarnished plant bug in organic strawberry and raspberry using semiochemical traps Organic Eprints

The strawberry blossom weevil (Anthonomus rubi) and the European tarnished plant bug (Lygus rugulipennis) cause large (10 - >80%) losses in yield and quality in organically grown strawberry. A consortium with 6 European countries has been created to work on the management of those pests. The pheromones of A. rubi and L. rugulipennis have been characterized in England by NRI/EMR. For the attraction of A. rubi the importance of host plant volatiles in combination with the pheromones has also been documented. The natural semiochemical mechanisms of sexual attraction and host plant finding of A. rubi and L. rugulipennis will be further studied and exploited to develop effective semiochemical traps for their management through mass trapping. Saatgutübertragbare Krankheiten wie Flugbrand (Ustilago nuda) und Streifenkrankheit (Pyrenophora graminea) bei Wintergerste (Hordeum vulgare) stellen ein großes Problem für den ökologischen Landbau und die ökologische Saatgutvermehrung dar. Die 'Forschung & Züchtung Dottenfelderhof' (FZD) führt seit mehreren Jahren Evaluierungen von Wintergerste-Sorten und Zuchtstämmen in zwei separaten Versuchen auf Resistenz gegenüber beiden Krankheiten durch. Insgesamt wurden sechs eigene Zuchtstämme mit Resistenz gegenüber Flugbrand und einer geringen Anfälligkeit gegenüber Streifenkrankheit gefunden. Ein Zuchtstamm war resistent gegenüber beiden Krankheiten.

Im ökologischen Gemüsebau ist der Falsche Mehltau ein bedeutendes Problem und führt in vielen Kulturarten zu hohen Ertragsverlusten. Zur Zeit sind weder genügend wirksame Resistenzen bekannt, noch geeignete Anbautechniken vorhanden, die einen ausreichenden Schutz gegen Mehltaupilze bieten würden. Der Einsatz von Pflanzenstärkungsmitteln mit einer effektiven Wirkung gegen Falschen Mehltau wäre eine mögliche Lösung des Problems. Allerdings gibt es bisher kaum Untersuchungen, in denen die Wirksamkeit der Stärkungsmittel unter standardisierten Bedingungen geprüft wurde. In diesem Forschungsprojekt wurden alle im Handel verfügbaren Winterweizensorten der Qualitätsgruppen E, A und B hinsichtlich ihrer Anfälligkeit gegenüber Weizenflugbrand (Ustilago tritici) evaluiert. Apple scab control with grapefruit seed extract: no alternative to chemical fungicides Organic Eprints

The growth inhibiting effect of four commercially available grapefruit seed extracts on the causal organism of apple scab Venturia inaequalis was tested. Germination of the conidia of Venturia inaequalis was pronouncedly inhibited by all tested extracts. The commercial products were analyzed by high pressure liquid chromatography and thin layer chromatography. All samples contained at least one preserving agent. These substances were identified as either benzethonium chloride, benzalkonium chloride, methyl parabene or propyl parabene. Freshly prepared extracts from seeds of grapefruits (Citrus paradisi) did not inhibit the germination of Venturia inaequalis. Results of a Research Project about the influence of pruning intensity on cost of thinning by hand with the Variety ’Elstar’ in 2004 and 2005 Organic Eprints

This trial took place in an organic fruit growing farm located near Lake Constance with the variety ‘Elstar’ planted in 1995. In 2004 and 2005 one variant (control) was pruned normally during the winter, the other variant was pruned more intensively to reduce the amount of flower buds. In 2004 at both variants the number of apples was reduced to 165 apples/tree at the end of May. Time for thinning by hand was cut down significantly in the intensively pruned variant. In addition at harvest the number of apples with bigger diameters, especially 75-80 mm, increased. Moreover the number of flower buds for the next season rose by 20 %. Therefore in 2005 the yield per tree at the intensively pruned variant increased about 15 %, but also the working hours...

The objectives of the present study were the determination of treatment threshold values for control of common bunt of wheat (Tilletia tritici) and evaluation of alternative seed treatments. Wheat seed inoculated with the fungus was sown in fields at three sites in Germany from 2002–2004.
