Descrição das larvas das principais espécies de peixes utilizadas pela pesca, no Pantanal. Infoteca-e
NASCIMENTO, F. L.; LIMA, C. A. R. M. A..
Elaborou-se uma chave ilustrada, baseando-se na comparacao de caracteristicas morfologicas e morfometricas dos estadios iniciais, quando as larvas ainda sao encontradas no plancton, a deriva no rio. A chave possui a descricao das cinco principais especies utilizadas economicamente no Pantanal: pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus), curimbata (Prochilodus lineatus), dourado (Salminus maxillosus), piavucu (Leporinus macrocephalus).

Tome 1. Description des malaïgues. Moyens de lutte, recommandations ArchiMer
Hamon, Pierre-yves; Vercelli, Catherine; Pichot, Yves; Lagarde, Franck; Le Gall, Patrik; Oheix, Jocelyne.
The Thau Lagoon, from time to time is the area of crisis locally called « malaïgues ». The characteristics of these « malaïgues » are the lack of oxygen interesting all the water column and the white color of the waters during the phenomena. The result of this anoxy is the death of cultivated molluscs. From 1969 to 2000 nine « malaïgues » have been observed. They occur during the Summer period but in different locations. The surface of the areas concerned are very different according the year. Different means of struggle have been tried and are described.

Identification key for Pliocene and Quaternary Spiniferites taxa bearing intergonal processes based on observations from estuarine and coastal environments ArchiMer
Limoges, Audrey; Londeix, Laurent; Mertens, Kenneth; Rochon, Andre; Pospelova, Vera; Cuellar, Tomasa; De Vernal, Anne.
The use of dinoflagellate cyst assemblages as a tool for palaeo-environmental reconstructions strongly relies on the robustness of cyst identification and existing information on the distribution of the different species. To this purpose, we propose a functional key for the identification of Pliocene and Quaternary Spiniferites bearing intergonal processes and depict the range of morphological variation of the different species on the basis of new observations from estuarine and coastal regions. Accordingly, the description of Spiniferites mirabilis is emended to include the new subspecies Spiniferites mirabilis subsp. serratus. We also report the occasional presence of intergonal processes in Spiniferites bentorii and Spiniferites belerius. This key aims...

Cymothoa frontalis, a cymothoid isopod parasitizing the belonid fish Strongylura strongylura from the Malabar Coast (Kerala, India): redescription, description, prevalence and life cycle ArchiMer
Thamban, Aneesh Panakkool; Kappalli, Sudha; Kottarathil, Helna Ameri; Gopinathan, Anilkumar; Paul, Trilles Jean.
Background: Cymothoa frontalis Milne Edward, 1840 is a very poorly described cymothoid, notwithstanding the previous redescription of the female. Pertinently, to date, the host of C. frontalis has not been identified with adequate precision. Most of the descriptions of cymothoids carried out hitherto were based primarily on females, but practically ignoring other life cycle stages. The present paper redescribes the female and describes other life cycle stages of the species C. frontalis to get better precision in their identification. Results: The female phase of C. frontalis is redescribed according to type specimens extant in the NMNH, Paris, and also by the data obtained from live specimens collected during the present study. The general morphology and...

A standardized method of describing fossils, using Echinoidea as an example Naturalis
Lewis, D.N.; Donovan, S.K..
The main purpose of a research paper in palaeontology, or any scientific discipline, is to spread information within the field. In this paper, suggestions are made concerning the structure and organisation of systematic palaeontological papers, using the Echinoidea as an example. A comprehensive table of echinoid morphological features is presented. It is intended that authors following these guidelines will be facilitated in writing research papers that enable expeditious retrieval of information.

The atyid shrimps of Fiji with description of a new species Naturalis
Choy, S.C..
Fourteen species of shrimps belonging to four genera of the family Atyidae are reported from the Fiji Islands. Three genera are represented by only one species each: Antecaridina lauensis (Edmondson, 1935), Atyoida pilipes (Newport, 1847) and Atyopsis spinipes (Newport, 1847) while the fourth, Caridina is represented by eleven species (including one new, Caridina devaneyi spec. nov. which is described and illustrated). Keys are provided to separate the genera and species. Two species, Caridina japonica De Man, 1892 and C. longirostris H. Milne Edwards, 1837 are recorded from Fiji for the first time. C. devaneyi spec, nov., C. fijiana Choy, 1983 and C. nudirostris Choy, 1984 are so far known only from Fiji and may be endemic to the island of Viti Levu. All...

The present paper constitutes an introduction to taxonomic methodology. After an analysis of taxonomic practice, and a brief survey of kinds of attributes, the paper deals with observation, description, comparison, arrangement and classification, hypothesis construction, deduction, model, experiment, abstraction, and synthesis. The methodological aspects of the species-concept and of biological classification are dealt with in two final sections.

Description of Odontozona addaia spec. nov. (Crustacea: Decapoda: Stenopodidae) from a marine cave in the island of Minorca, western Mediterranean Naturalis
Pretus, J.L..
Odontozona addaia, a new species of stenopodid shrimp is described from a marine cave in the island of Minorca (Balearic Islands), being the first record of the genus for the western Mediterranean. One male and one ovigerous female were found during a systematic propspection of several Balearic caves during 1988. Sexual dimorphism is observed and described; the differences mainly concern a more developed third pereiopod in the male, and a distinct shape and armature of the pleonites and pleopods in both sexes. The distinction of this new taxon from the other known closely related species, O. minoica, is discussed.

A new genus of arboreal rat from West Java, Indonesia Naturalis
Musser, G.G..
Kadarsanomys nov. gen. is proposed for Rattus sodyi Bartels, 1937, and contrasted with Rattus and Lenothrix, two genera with which sodyi has been closely connected in the past. Kadarsanomys sodyi is an arboreal rat associated with bamboo on the forested volcanoes of West Java. Kadarsanomys has no close relatives and is the only murid genus endemic to a single island on the Sunda Shelf. Kadarsanomys, Pithecheir and Lenothrix comprise the only endemic genera of Sundaic murids.

Systematics, phylogeny and zoogeography of Bulimulinae (Mollusca) Naturalis
Breure, A.S.H..
In this publication a revision is given of the genera of the subfamily Bulimulinae (Gastropoda, Pulmonata, Bulimulidae). The morphological variation of the shell, radula, pallial organs and genitalia is analized and 21 character transition series are recognized. In the systematical part the following data are presented for each genus : description of shell and anatomy, distribution, ecology, bibliography and a list of taxa. The number of (sub) genera is reduced from 80 to 43 ( + two nomina inquirenda). A new synonymy is : Paracochlea Hylton Scott, 1967 = Eudioptus Albers, 1860. The following new species names are introduced : Bostryx sophieae, Drymaeus (Drymaeus) marcapatensis, Drymaeus (Drymaeus) sophieae, Drymaeus (Mesembrinus) pseudobesus. Berendtia...
