| Structural characteristics (total in marked tillers of leaves (NFT), expanded leaves (NCE), green leaves (NFV) and dead leaves (NFS) and number of tillers per plant (NPP)) and morphogenic variables (tillering (TApPP) and rates of total leaf (TApFT), expanded leaf (TApFE) and live leaf (TApFV) appearance) were evaluated in four elephantgrass genotypes (Napier, Cameroon and Pioneiro cultivars and clone CNPGL 91 F27 05). | Cytogenetic studies were carried out on five accesses of interspecific hybrids of Pennisetum purpureum and Pennisetum glaucum and their parentals, which are part of the Forage Germplasm Bank of the "Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Gado de Leite" of EMBRAPA, Brazil. The mitotic cytogenetic analysis, performed using stain by Schiff reactive, confirmed the chromosome number of 2n = 14, 28 and 21 for the accesses of P. glaucum, P. purpureum and their hybrids, respectively. For each access, descriptions of the chromosome complement and idiograms are presented which allowed to establish the karyotypic relationships between the hybrids and their parentals. | ABSTRACT We aimed to evaluate the efficiency of six different horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands (HSSF-CWs), with different substrates (gravel and crushed PET bottles), which also varied in relation to the presence and arrangement of plant species (elephant grass and Tifton 85 bermudagrass) in the removal of pollutants from a bulk milk cooling tank (MTWW). Each bed was fed at a flow rate of 0.18 m3 d-1 and average organic load rate (OLR) of 318 kg ha-1 d-1 of BOD5, with hydraulic detention time (HRT) of 1.84 days in the gravel-filled HSSF-CWs (CWS-G) and 2.97 days in the PET-filled HSSF-CWs (CWs-P). | No estado do Acre, a cobertura vegetal predominante é a floresta tropical úmida, com elevada diversidade de espécies por hectare. Neste áreas, a principal atividade econômica, no último século, tem sido o extrativismo do látex da seringueira (Hevea brasiliense) e a coleta da castanha-do-brasil (Bertholletia excelsa). | Um experimento de campo foi efetuado em solo do tipo latosol amarelo textura muito pesada a fim de se estudar o comportamento de uma capineira de capim elefante (P. purpureum Schum) var. Porto Rico, em cinco (5) diferentes alturas de corte (5, 10, 15, 20 e 25 cm do solo). O delineamento usado foi com quatro (4) repetições. Em dois (2) anos de coleta de dados evidenciou-se a maior produtividade e duração de capineira, quando cortada as alturas de 20 e 25 cm do solo. As produções do 1o ano (em todos os tratamentos) foram superiores as do 2o ano e, comparando-se periodos "chuvosos" (7 meses) e "secos" (5 meses) observou-se que no periodo de chuvas obteve-se quase que o dobro de produção do período seco.
