Storck, Lindolfo; Departamento de Fitotecnia, Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, RS; Lúcio, Alessandro Dal’Col; Universidade Federal de Santa Maria; Krause, Willian; Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso; Araújo, Dejânia Vieira de; Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso; Silva, Celice Alexandre; Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso.
There is a demand for research on yellow passion fruit plants (Passiflora edulis Sims) used for juice production. Thus, the present study aimed to determine the number of plants per experimental plot and the number of plots per genotype for different properties of passion fruit. The data used were obtained from an experiment (Tangará da Serra, Mato Grosso State, Brazil) that assessed 13 fruit properties in eight genotypes of yellow passion fruit plants, with 10 replicates and 10 plants per plot. For each of the 80 experimental plots, the optimum plot size (Xo) was estimated by the method of maximum curvature of the coefficient of variation model. The number of replicates for each genotype and the means were estimated through the use of 10 plants per plot,...

The 15N isotope to evaluate fertilizer nitrogen absorption efficiency by the coffee plant Anais da ABC (AABC)
Fenilli,Tatiele A.B.; Reichart,Klaus; Bacchi,Osny O.S.; Trivelin,Paulo C.O.; Dourado-Neto,Durval.
The use of the 15N label for agronomic research involving nitrogen (N) cycling and the fate of fertilizer-N is well established, however, in the case of long term experimentation with perennial crops like citrus, coffee and rubber tree, there are still shortcomings mainly due to large plant size, sampling procedures, detection levels and interferences on the system. This report tries to contribute methodologically to the design and development of 15N labeled fertilizer experiments, using as an example a coffee crop fertilized with 15N labeled ammonium sulfate, which was followed for two years. The N of the plant derived from the fertilizer was studied in the different parts of the coffee plant in order to evaluate its distribution within the plant and the...

Use of the correlation coefficient in agricultural sciences: problems, pitfalls and how to deal with them Anais da ABC (AABC)
Kozak,Marcin; Krzanowski,Wojtek; Tartanus,MaŁgorzata.
This paper discusses a number of aspects concerning the analysis, interpretation and reporting of correlations in agricultural sciences. Various problems that one might encounter with these aspects are identified, and suggestions of how to overcome these problems are proposed. Some of the examples presented show how mistaken and even misleading the interpretation of correlation can be when one ignores simple rules of analysis.

Variability, plot size and border effect in lettuce trials in protected environment Bragantia
Santos,Daniel; Lúcio,Alessandro Dal’Col; Cargnelutti Filho,Alberto; Lopes,Sidinei José; Olivoto,Tiago.
ABSTRACT The variability within rows of cultivation may reduce the accuracy of experiments conducted in a complete randomized block design if the rows are considered as blocks, however, little is known about this variability in protected environments. Thus, our aim was to study the variability of the fresh mass in lettuce shoot, growing in protected environment, and to verify the border effect and size of the experimental unit in minimizing the productive variability. Data from two uniformity trials carried out in a greenhouse in autumn and spring growing seasons were used. In the statistical analyses, it was considered the existence of parallel cultivation rows the lateral openings of the greenhouse and of columns perpendicular to these openings....

Extraction of red cabbage anthocyanins: optimization of the operation conditions of the column process BABT
Xavier,Marcelo Fonseca; Lopes,Toni Jefferson; Quadri,Mara Gabriela Novy; Quadri,Marintho Bastos.
The aim of this work was to extract anthocyanins from the red cabbage. Batch studies under several extraction conditions indicated that acetic acid in aqueous solution (10% V/V) was the best solvent, used in the proportion of 0.25 g of red cabbage mL-1. At this condition, column assays were carried out to evaluate the influence of the ionic force, pH, solvent flow rate, recirculated volume of red cabbage juice and the mass of red cabbage. Results showed that the pH, recirculation and mass of red cabbage had statistically significant effects, where the optimum operation conditions found for the process were pH 2.3, recirculation volume of the solvent 0.83 L and mass of red cabbage 50 g.

Assessment of oxidation of leaves of Ilex paraguariensis (St. Hil) BABT
Molin,Rochele Fernanda; Valduga,Alice Teresa; Di Luccio,Marco; Dartora,Nessana; Cichoski,Alexandre José; Pistore,Mônica; Rigo,Elisandra.
This work aimed to study the oxidation of leaves of Ilex paraguariensis St. Hil, in a process similar to the oxidation of Camellia sinensis, with the purpose of developing new products based on yerba maté. So far, no previous systematic study about the oxidation of yerba maté has been found elsewhere. A Plackett-Burman experimental design was used for the screening of the significant parameters that affected the oxidation. The oxidation was indirectly quantified by following the changes in the product color, water activity, and pH with the time of processing. The factors that most influenced the process were the age of the leaves and the relative humidity of the oxidation chamber. The differences between the treatments were more evident after 3, 6 12 and...

Vieira,Gabriela A.L.; Magrini,Mariana Juventina; Bonugli-Santos,Rafaella C.; Rodrigues,Marili V.N.; Sette,Lara D..
ABSTRACT Pyrene and benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) are high molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) recalcitrant to microbial attack. Although studies related to the microbial degradation of PAHs have been carried out in the last decades, little is known about degradation of these environmental pollutants by fungi from marine origin. Therefore, this study aimed to select one PAHs degrader among three marine-derived basidiomycete fungi and to study its pyrene detoxification/degradation. Marasmiellus sp. CBMAI 1062 showed higher levels of pyrene and BaP degradation and was subjected to studies related to pyrene degradation optimization using experimental design, acute toxicity, organic carbon removal (TOC), and metabolite evaluation. The experimental...

Papp,Lajos Attila; Gyéresi,Árpád; Hancu,Gabriel; Mircia,Eleonora; Kelemen,Hajnal.
A generic capillary zone electrophoresis method was developed for the analysis of four proton pump inhibitors: omeprazole, pantoprazole, lansoprazole and rabeprazole. During preliminary analysis screening of phosphate buffers at different pH levels was performed, in order to determine the optimum pH domain suitable for the simultaneous determination of all studied compounds. A face centered central composite design was employed for the optimization of separation conditions. The effect of buffer concentration, pH and applied voltage was studied; resolution between peaks and migration time of the last compound were considered as responses. Other factors as system temperature, injection parameters, capillary length, were held constant during the optimization...
