This study was realized to evaluate the monthly production, composition and quality of milk (total and defatted dry extract, lactose, fat and protein) and their relation to somatic cell count (SCC) and total bacterial count (TBC) using multivariate statistical analyses. The data are from a dairy farm for the period of two years (from January 2015 to December 2016). The SCC and TBC variables were transformed to somatic cell score (SCS) and log10 (LogTBC). Factor analysis, discriminant analysis and cluster analysis were used. Through factor analysis, it was found two factors that together explained 69.5% of the total data variation. The first factor represented the inverse relationship between lactose versus fat and protein content, while the second factor... |

The objective was to create, validate and apply a measurement scale on environmental practices for teachers of various educational areas (exact sciences, humanities, natural sciences and Portuguese), from six public high schools in the city of Patos, Paraíba. To that end, it was created a questionnaire related to the topic, consisting of 24 items in the Likert scale model, being statistically validated as its consistency and reliability by factor analysis and by the α-Cronbach’s test. The assessed measurement scale has been validated (n = 34) with the exclusion of five items, getting excellent α-Cronbach’s coefficient (0.95). In the application of the questionnaire (n = 68), most teachers had social and environmental practices little consistent with... |

ABSTRACT In the present study it is hypothesized that the germplasm of popcorn of tropical regions shows resistance to FAW, and the multivariate analysis can characterize the main traits of this resistance. Thus, the aim of this study was to identify key traits used to select fall armyworm resistance in popcorn by using factor and cluster analyses. Sixteen biological traits were evaluated at larval and pupae stages: total number of armyworm, time larval period, final mass of caterpillars, total mass of caterpillars, mean mass of caterpillars, pupae period, mass of pupae and some indices used to evaluate the food consumed by the caterpillars. Multicollinearity diagnosis, factor and canonical analysis, and the genetic divergence among the genotypes were... |

Premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) seem to form a severity continuum with no clear-cut boundary. However, since the American Psychiatric Association proposed the research criteria for PMDD in 1994, there has been no agreement about the symptomatic constellation that constitutes this syndrome. The objective of the present study was to establish the core latent structure of PMDD symptoms in a non-clinical sample. Data concerning PMDD symptoms were obtained from 632 regularly menstruating college students (mean age 24.4 years, SD 5.9, range 17 to 49). For the first random half (N = 316), we performed principal component analysis (PCA) and for the remaining half (N = 316), we tested three theory-derived competing models of PMDD by... |

ABSTRACT Without effective actions to improve environmental management, water resources tend to become scarce. Thus, this study aimed to understand the processes influencing the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the water due to land uses and occupation in the Ipê stream basin, in Ilha Solteira - SP (Brazil), regarding the dependence of the analyzed variables. Monitoring of chemical, physical, and biological water quality was performed from 2006 to 2011, and the records of land use and occupation in 2011. A factorial multivariate analysis allowed us to understand that the processes in densely populated areas increased degradation of water by the input of organic loads, yet those of farming areas enhanced the degradation of the chemical and... |

The long-term variations of two coastal benthic communities (Eastern English Channel, France) were studied between 1979 and 1994 by means of factor correspondence analysis (FCA), trophic structure and rank-frequency diagrams (RFD). FCA identified periods of relative homogeneity and periods of strong variation in the structure of the two communities. The first community, established on heterogeneous sand, showed a multi-annual cycle Linked to grain-size variations in the sediment. As passive supplies of organic matter were not important and suspension feeders could hardly live in these conditions, the community remained poor and stable and was dominated by deposit-feeders and carnivores. The other one, a rich and diverse mussel (Mytilus edulis) bed, showed... |

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the consistency of the methods of Annicchiarico, Lin & Binns, Wricke, and factor analysis in identifying eucalyptus clones with stability, adaptability, and high productive potential. Eight-four clones, with three years of age, from the genetic breeding program of the company CMPC Celulose Riograndense were used. Three field experiments were carried out in a randomized complete block design, in an 84x3 factorial arragement, with 20 replicates of one plant per plot. The clones were evaluated as to diameter at breast height, plant height, and volume of wood. The methods of Annicchiarico and Lin & Binns are highly correlated with each other, and their use together with the method of Wricke is a... |

The objectives of this paper are to examine consumers' perceptions of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) beef on the basis of a survey of consumers and buyers of beef. The paper identifies a profile of PDO beef consumers, examines their behaviour and perceptions on PDO beef, derives the dimensions of perceptions of PDO beef, and establishes segments based upon those dimensions. The results reveal that PDO consumers are representative of all geographical regions, age and profession groups, are lighter consumers of beef and shop for food mainly in the butchers. Consumers' perceptions on PDO beef emphasises quality, safety, and control. However, underlying those perceptions are six main dimensions and it is possible to identify three segments of PDO beef... |

The recent surge in food prices around the world may reverse the gains of reducing hunger and poverty in the recent years. This paper employs factor and sequential typology analysis using data for 175 countries to identify groups of countries categorized according to four measures of food security: utilization, availability, accessibility and stability. Nine indicators are used for this study: calories intake, protein intake, fat intake, food production, the ratio of total exports to food imports, soil fertility, length of growing period, coefficient of variation of length of growing period and urbanization. The analysis first identifies 5 distinct food security groups characterized by food intake then further split these groups based on similarities and... |

In view of the present situation of measuring a green residence just by energy saving and environmental protection, we propose that we should build the rural residence more from the farmer’s view and set up an evaluation system based on farmers satisfaction. A total of 16 factors affecting the farmers’ satisfaction degree of green energy saving rebuilding of rural residence are selected. Questionnaire survey on 110 peasant households is carried out under different situations in Guanzhong region in Shaanxi Province, so as to obtain the importance score of evaluation index. During constructing the evaluation system for farmers’ satisfaction degree, Factor Analysis Method is used to classify the related influencing factors. Subjective analysis of Analytic... |
