The predator Coenosia Attenuata Stein (Diptera, Muscidae) on cultivated plants from Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
COURI,MÁRCIA S.; SOUSA,VIVIANE R. DE; LIMA,RAFAEL M.; DIAS-PINI,NIVIA S..
ABSTRACT Coenosia attenuata Stein (1903) is a predatory fly that is commonly found in greenhouses and open fields preying on whiteflies, leafminers, psocopterans and other insects. The species is widespread in the Old World and its distribution has expanded in recent times to Neotropical countries including Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Peru. We report here for the first time the presence of C. attenuata in Brazil, occurring in different sites in the State of Ceará (Northeastern Brazil). Expansion of the distribution range of this muscid to the eastern parts of South America opens up the possibility of applying the beneficial predator as a biological control agent for protected crops of the region.

New records of Tindariopsis (Pelecypoda, Protobranchia) from Brazil - Campos Basin (off Rio de Janeiro) Biota Neotropica
Benaim,Natalia Pereira; Absalão,Ricardo Silva.
As a part of the Environmental Characterization of the Campos Basin project, we obtained samples from the continental slope benthos. As a consequence, specimens of Tindariopsis aeolata (Dall, 1889) and Tindariopsis agathida (Dall, 1889) were found. These species show prodissoconch surface sculpture patterns that were never seen for species of Tindariopsis. The presence of this kind of sculpture in the type species of the genus, T. agathida, adds diagnostic characters to the genus. T. agathida and T. aeolata are typical from the Caribbean Realm (Guyana and Tobago). This is the first record of T. aeolata in the southernmost area of the Atlantic Ocean, and also the shallowest record (1000 m) for this species. With this finding of specimens from the Bacia de...

Dissemination of Aleurocanthus woglumi in citrus plants, its natural enemies and new host plants in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Ciência Rural
Alvim,Rodrigo Garcia; Aguiar-Menezes,Elen de Lima; Lima,Aurino Florencio de.
ABSTRACT: Aleurocanthus woglumi is an exotic pest, widely disseminated in Brazil, with a high preference for citrus plants, but with a polyphagous feeding habit. The contribution of the state of Rio de Janeiro in the Brazilian production of citrus fruits is small; however, there are still public policies that encourage citrus production in the state. In 2010, the appearance of this pest in Rio de Janeiro was confirmed in the municipality of Cachoeiras de Macacu. The objectives of this research were to evaluate the dissemination of A. woglumi in this state, conduct a survey of new species of host plants, identify and evaluate the population of natural enemies present at two orchards that grow 'Tahiti' limes ( Citrus latifolia ) infested by the pest in...

Aspectos atuais da distribuição geográfica de Anopheles (Kerteszia) cruzii Dyar & Knab, 1908 no estado do Espírito Santo, Brasil Entomología
Rezende,Helder Ricas; Cerutti Junior,Crispim; Santos,Claudiney Biral dos.
Anopheles cruzii was registered in Espírito Santo state both in 1957 and 1968. Our study provides additional evidence of its presence, including municipalities that were non mentioned before. Anopheles captures undertaken between 1998 and 2003 pointed out a distribution restricted to the forested outskirts of the mountains in the highland area of the state. Its epidemiological role is suggested by the simultaneous presence of malaria cases in the same municipalities.

Concentração geográfica de pivôs centrais no Brasil. Infoteca-e
LANDAU, E. C.; MOURA, L.; GUIMARAES, D. P.; HIRSCH, A.; PIMENTA, F. M..
A maior...
