Les parasites d'Arnoglossus laterna (Walbaum, 1792), Bothidae, dans le golfe du Lion (cote francaise de la Mediterranee) et leur influence sur les formules leucocytaires des poissons hotes ArchiMer
Douellou, L; Bastide-guillaume, C; Romestand, B; Trilles, J.
Arnoglossus laterna is only infested by intestinal parasites. Each parasite distribution is independent of the distribution of other parasites and also independent of the sex of host. When a fish is infested by a great number of the two helminths Acanthocephaloides and Bothriocephalus clavibothrium , the proportion of lymphocytes tends to decrease and the proportion of neutrophils tends to increase (inflammatory response). Important infestation by Scolex pleuronectis induces an increase of the thrombocyte count for 100 counted leucocytes. After infestation by the nematode Thynnascaris sp. alone or with another parasite, even by small number, the proportion of lymphocytes decreases and the proportion of neutrophils increases.

Influence d'un parasite haemarophagen: Lernalocera bronchialis (L., 1767) (Crustacea, Copepoda, (Pennellidae), sur les constances erythrocytaires de son hote Merluccius merluccius (L., 1758) ArchiMer
Bastide-guillaume, C; Douellou, L; Romestand, B; Trilles, J.
A hematological study of erythrocytic constants of a teleost fish, the European hake Merluccius merluccius has been undertaken to evaluate the effect of infestation by the branchial parasitic copepode: Lernaeocera branchialis . As the levels of parasitic infestation increased: a normocytic, normochromic anaemia when fish had one adult female parasite present, a microcytic anaemia when between 2 and 4 adult females were found and a macrocytic anaemia when at least 5 adult females were present. There was no significant difference in body condition or the coefficient of spleen to body weight between the control sample and samples of individuals infested by Lernaeocera branchialis.

The use of antivenom reverses hematological and osmotic fragility changes of erythrocytes caused by indian red scorpion Mesobuthus tamulus concanesis POCOCK in experimental envenoming J. Venom. Anim. Toxins
RADHA KRISHNA MURTHY,K.; ABBAS ZARE,M..
Acute myocarditis was induced in experimental dogs by subcutaneous (SC) injection of 3mg/kg of scorpion venom from Mesobuthus tamulus concanesis POCOCK (earlier called Buthus tamulus). An increase in hemoglobin (Hb), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), packed cell volume (PCV), plasma hemoglobin (Plasma Hb) levels, and increased osmotic fragility of erythrocytes in vivo was observed after envenoming. An increase in osmotic fragility of red blood cells (RBC) was also observed when the blood in vitro was incubated with different concentrations of scorpion venom. Species- specific scorpion antivenom (SAV) was administered to different groups of animals at different time intervals following scorpion envenoming. This resulted in a decrease in Hb,...

Carvalho,FR; Vassão,RC; Nicoletti,MA; Maria,DA.
The aim of the present work was to study the effect of the crude extract of Curcuma zedoaria on peripheral blood cells and tumor progression in C57Bl/6J mice injected with B16F10 murine melanoma cells. The intraperitoneal therapy showed a significant increase in total white and red blood cell counts, a decrease in peritoneal cell number and tumor volume reduction, whereas the oral administration revealed a noteworthy augmentation only in total leukocyte count. These results contribute to evaluate the importance of alternative treatments that employ phytotherapic compounds against tumor progression and its possible immunomodulation.

Systemic effects induced by intralesional injection of ω-conotoxin MVIIC after spinal cord injury in rats J. Venom. Anim. Toxins incl. Trop. Dis.
Oliveira,Karen M; Silva,Carla Maria O; Lavor,Mário Sérgio L; Rosado,Isabel R; Fukushima,Fabíola B; Assumpção,Anna Luiza FV; Neves,Saira MN; Motta,Guilherme R; Garcia,Fernanda F; Gomez,Marcus Vinícius; Melo,Marília M; Melo,Eliane G.
Background:Calcium channel blockers such as conotoxins have shown a great potential to reduce brain and spinal cord injury. MVIIC neuroprotective effects analyzed in in vitromodels of brain and spinal cord ischemia suggest a potential role of this toxin in preventing injury after spinal cord trauma. However, previous clinical studies with MVIIC demonstrated that clinical side effects might limit the usefulness of this drug and there is no research on its systemic effects. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the potential toxic effects of MVIIC on organs and to evaluate clinical and blood profiles of rats submitted to spinal cord injury and treated with this marine toxin. Rats were treated with placebo or MVIIC (at doses of 15, 30, 60 or 120...

Trypanosoma evansi : A quantitative approach to the understanding of the morphometry-hematology relationship throughout experimental murine infections OAK
Tejero, F; Roschman-González, Antonio; Perrone Carmona, Trina Mercedes; Aso, P. M..
The morphometric characteristics of three Venezuelan isolates of Trypanosoma evansi, and the basic hematological features as well as host’s body weight were registered throughout experimental murine infections. The phenomena, trypomastigote morphometry dynamics, mouse hematological change and mice body variation, are related in statistical terms. In addition, the changeable morphometric characteristics of the hemoflagellate, and the host’s mutable hematological attributes, and the variable host’s body eight produced three different mathematical models generated by Multiple Linear Regressions that could explain the heterogeneous behavior of this eclectic parasite. Even more, supplementary mathematical models provided by Correspondence Analysis emphasize...

Hematological and biochemical features of postpartum fever in the heavy draft mare OAK
AOKI, Takahiro; KIMURA, Yuki; OYA, Anna; CHIBA, Akiko; ISHII, Mitsuo; NAMBO, Yasuo.
Heavy draft mares potentially have a higher risk of suffering from postpartum fever (PF) than light breed mares. The purpose of this study was to compare hematological and biochemical features between clinically healthy mares (n=40) and PF-affected mares (n=16). Mares were classified as having PF when their rectal temperature rose to >38.5°C within 96 hr of foaling. The numbers of leukocytes, lymphocytes, and neutrophils and the serum magnesium level were significantly lower in PF-affected mares. The serum SAA and NEFA levels were significantly higher in PF-affected mares. Strong inflammation responses, fat mobilization associated with negative energy balance and possibly endotoxin participate in hematological and biochemical features of PF in heavy...

Freitas Neto,OC; Arroyave,W; Alessi,AC; Fagliari,JJ; Berchieri,A.
This study aimed at evaluating the susceptibility of commercial laying hens to Salmonella Gallinarum (SG). Two experiments were carried using a mutant strain of Salmonella Gallinarum resistant to nalidix acid (SGNALr). In the first trial, the resistance of birds was evaluated based on clinical signs, faecal shedding, and mortality. It was carried out with six lines of commercial layers being three light white layers, considered to be resistant to SG (W1, W2, W3), and three semi-heavy brown varieties (B1, B2, B3), considered susceptible to SG. Each group contained 15 one-day-old birds. Hens were inoculated in the crop at 5 days of age with 0.2 mL of SGNALr neat culture. In addition, to each brown variety, a new group of 15 birds was challenged with 0.2mL of...
