| The use, as an aquaculture technique, of the double bottom supporting a sediment layer has numerous advantages. As far as the sediment is concerned (essential in the case of the Penaeid shrimp), this technique alone allows the sediment to stay clean as it is constantly oxidized through the percolation it creates. | Based on all available seismic refraction data, the seismic structure of the Western Approaches to the English Channel and the South Armorican continental shelf has been established. The correlation of seismic velocities showed a three-fold structure, related to geological layers as follows: 1. High-velocity, deep sequence (4.4-6.6km/sec): metamorphic basement and Lower to Middle Palaeozoic. 2. Intermediate sequence (3.6-4.3km/sec): Permo-Triassic (and Jurassic?) and possibly also Lower Cretaceous on the margin of the Western Approaches. 3. | Sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax), turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) and gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) spawners were kept in 2 identical 40 m3 tanks, one outdoors (control) and one indoors (test) during a 5-year experiment. The control tank was under natural yearly photoperiod and the temperature cycles of western Brittany. The test tank was under similar variation for 3 years but with the cycles compressed into 10 months. The 3 species spawned naturally in these artificial conditions at various stages of the experiment. After 3 years, the fish in the test tank spawned an average 5 months ahead of the others. | .-Alkali metals prove to be very sensitive to alteration process even if this process is moderate. It is very difficult to use these elements to trace magmatic processes since their concentration may Vary within an homogeneous "unaltered" unit. From all the basaltic units investigated, a classification of "low partition coefficient" elements is presented (Sc, Ti, V, Y, Zr, Nb, La-Tb , Hf, Ta, Th) . The incompatible elements ratios (Y/Tb, Zr/Hf, Nb/Ta) are constant in the samples studied and are nearly equal to the same ratios in chondrites. | The anchovy seems to cruise around the Bay of Biscay with less regularity than the sardine. Sometimes abounding, it is rare, or at least adults do not cruise at the surface, some years. It results in some important variations in the catches with, for example in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, 736 570 kg caught in 1928 and less than 150 000 kg in 1929 and 1930. However, despite some poor years, the anchovy accounts for an important part of the fisheries statistics of the Bayonne area.
