Abstract Fruits and derivatives, such as juices, are complex mixtures of chemicals, some of which may have mutagenic and/or carcinogenic potential, while others may have antimutagenic and/or anticancer activities. The modulating effects of honey-sweetened cashew apple nectar (HSCAN), on somatic mutation and recombination induced by ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) and mitomycin C (MMC) were evaluated with the wing spot test in Drosophila melanogaster using co- and post-treatment protocols. Additionally, the antimutagenic activity of two HSCAN components, cashew apple pulp and honey, in MMC-induced DNA damage was also investigated. HSCAN reduced the mutagenic activity of both EMS and MMC in the co-treatment protocol, but had a co-mutagenic effect when... |

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the potential of honey, propolis, and bee pollen for the reversal of lipid peroxidation induced by tebuconazole (TEB) in South American catfish (Rhamdia quelen), in which the concentration of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), the activity of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione-S-transferase (GST) and the concentrations of non-enzymatic antioxidants, reduced glutathione (GSH), ascorbic acid, and non-protein thiols were assessed. Honey (0.125 g L-1) and bee pollen (0.05 g L-1) added to the water reverse the production of TBARS induced by TEB, while propolis demonstrated a pro-oxidant effect, inducing an increase in TBARS production. The data presented herein suggest that the addition of water to honey and... |

Beekeeping is an activity of great socioeconomic importance in Mexico, since 80% of beekeepers are resource-poor farmers; it is among the top three of the livestock subsector and is a source of foreign exchange activity, over the 80% of the production from 59.00 tons approximately, is exported. Mexican Honey is widely known for its high quality, however, due to improper use of certain medications such as antibiotics and sulfa drugs, used to control bee diseases, may become contaminated resulting in quality problems that limit international marketing, leading to the rejection of shipments of honey. International quality standards are becoming more demanding with regard to the residual concentration of these compounds in high-quality honey. The aim of this... |

This research describes and analyzes the commercial actions being conducted in six groups of producers bee located on the periphery of the state capital of Puebla, Mexico. We study the guidelines that have developed around the marketing as a discipline dedicated to analysis and implications of commercial actions, taking as a hub consumer preferences. There is some use of marketing tools in selling practices carried out by small groups of producers of honey, with the implementation of factor analysis. We found that the actions that develop commercial producers and honey producers are limited to continue with their daily practice of selling what they produce rather than mainstream approach mercadológico to produce what consumers are willing to buy and pay.... |
