Checklist de Gastrotricha do Estado do Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil Iheringia, Sér. Zool.

RESUMO Neste estudo é apresentada uma lista atualizada das espécies de Gastrotricha que ocorrem nos corpos de água do estado de Mato Grosso do Sul. A grande maioria das espécies de Gastrotricha pertence a Chaetonotidae (quatro gêneros, nove espécies), seguida por Dasydytidae (três gêneros, três espécies) e Neogosseidae (um gênero, uma espécie). Como apenas um estudo foi realizado até hoje no estado do Mato Grosso do Sul, é mais do que evidente que o conhecimento da biodiversidade dos Gastrotricha está totalmente subestimado neste estado.

Composição e variabilidade espaço-temporal da meiofauna de uma praia arenosa na região amazônica (Ajuruteua, Pará) Iheringia, Sér. Zool.

Este trabalho avalia a variabilidade espaço-temporal da meiofauna do médiolitoral na praia de Ajuruteua, Estado do Pará. As coletas foram realizadas a cada dois meses, entre abril de 2003 a fevereiro de 2004 durante as marés de sizígia, em diferentes zonas da praia. As amostras foram retiradas com um amostrador cilíndrico de 3,14 cm² e fixadas em formalina salina a 5%. Em laboratório, as amostras foram passadas em malha de 0,063 mm de abertura e os organismos retidos identificados em nível de grandes grupos taxonômicos, contados e fixados em álcool etílico a 70%. ABSTRACT Batillipes specimens collected in the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean, on the Brazilian Coast (Campos Basin and Potiguar Basin) with a bifurcated caudal appendage similar to B. dicrocercus Pollock, 1970 were assigned to B. potiguarensis Santos, da Rocha, Gomes Jr & Fontoura, 2017. Four dominant nematode species and various copepods from an intertidal mudflat in Marennes-Oleron Bay were analyzed for delta C-13 and delta N-15 ratios together with their potential food source, the microphytobenthos. It was shown that microphytobenthic C is passed to nematodes either by grazing or predation on herbivorous meiofauna by other nematodes. Diatoms of different sizes exhibited different C-13 content, which can be reflected in herbivorous meiofauna, such as the nematodes Daptonema oxycerca and Metachromadora remanei and the bulk of copepods, indicating they can select different sizes of diatoms. Four new species of Kinorhyncha from the Gulf of California, eastern Pacific Ocean ArchiMer

Several meiofaunal samples from the central and lower Gulf of California were studied. Four new species of kinorhynchs, Cristaphyes fortis sp. nov., Higginsium mazatlanensis sp. nov., Cephalorhyncha teresae sp. nov. and Echinoderes xalkutaat sp. nov., are described herein. Trophic role of large benthic sulfur bacteria in mangrove sediment ArchiMer

Large filamentous sulfur-oxidizing bacteria belonging to the Beggiatoacae family can cover large portions of shallow marine sediments surrounding mangroves in Guadeloupe (French West Indies). In order to assess the importance of Beggiatoa mats as an infaunal food source, observations were conducted of the area within mats and at increasing distances from mats. We used natural isotopic compositions and a C-13 enrichment study. Bioindicators assess the mangroves ecological state according to the types of pressures but they differ with the ecosystem’s specificities. We investigated benthic meiofauna diversity and structure within the low human-impacted mangroves in French Guiana (South America) in response to sediment variables with various distances to the main city. Chemical and Biological evolution of sediments in closed circuit : II. Effect of soluble organic matter input on meiofauna in poly­trophic systems. The effect on meiofauna of the input of soluble organic matter in clo­sed circuit sand filters was followed during two years for an oligotrophic, a mesotrophic and an eutrophic tank, and during one year for an atrophic tank. In the case of no input, the density, biomass and species richness of nematodes decreases even if equitability remains constant. Oligotrophy main­tains the stability and diversity. Mesotrophy changes the community composition by species succession. Eutrophy allows biomass increase, due to one dominant species.

Open sandy beaches support key ecological functions and a distinctive biodiversity, but are threatened by an increasing anthropogenic pressure. Among these threats is the occurrence of green tides of Ulva spp., expression of the eutrophication phenomenon. Our study aimed at determining the impact of green macroalgal accumulations on benthic meiofauna inhabiting two macrotidal sandy beaches of Brittany: Saint Nic (impacted) and Anse de Dinan (unimpacted). Cold seep areas are extremely reduced habitats with spatiotemporal variation of hydrocarbon-rich fluid seepage, low oxygen levels, and great habitat heterogeneity. Cold seeps can create circular to ellipsoid shallow depressions on the seafloor called pockmarks. This paper described Xylocythere sarrazinae sp. nov. (Ostracoda: Cytheroidea: Cytheruridae: Eucytherurinae), collected at 2196 m depth from the Grotto hydrothermal edifice (Main Endeavor Field, Juan de Fuca Ridge) in the northeastern Pacific Ocean. Meiofauna and sedimentary organic matter off Central Chile: response to changes caused by the 1997-1998 El Nino ArchiMer

Quantitative surveys of metazoan meiofauna were carried out in an upwelling region off Central Chile (36 degreesS). During May 1997 and May 1998, coinciding with the onset and end of Fl Nino, five benthic stations (respectively 27, 34, 64, 88, and 120 m depth), from the middle of Concepcion Bay to the edge of the adjacent continental shelf, were sampled. The sedimentary organic matter biopolymeric fraction (proteins, carbohydrates and lipids) and chloroplastic pigments were also assessed. Variation in structure and biomass of the benthic communities at three contrasting sites in the tropical Northeast Atlantic ArchiMer

Three major size classes of the benthic metazoan communities (megafauna, macrofauna and meiofauna) were investigated simultaneously at 3 sites in the tropical Northeast Atlantic. The sites varied in their level of surface primary productivity (eutrophic, mesotrophic and oligotrophic). Results for 3 cruises in 3 seasons (Eumeli 2, winter 1991; Eumeli 3, autumn 1991; Eumeli 4, spring 1992) are given for each size class in terms of taxonomic composition, density and biomass. The benthic communities did not exhibit evidence of seasonal variation, but there were substantial differences in the quantitative structure of the metazoan communities between the 3 sites. Seasonal dependence on seagrass detritus and trophic niche partitioning in four copepod eco-morphotypes ArchiMer

Benthic copepods dominate meiofaunal communities from marine phytodetritus, both in terms of numerical abundance and species diversity. Nevertheless, ecological factors driving copepod co-existence and population dynamics are still largely unknown. Here, we aimed to explore feeding habits of four copepod species commonly found in Mediterranean seagrass detritus accumulations, representing distinct eco-morphotypes (planktonic, phytal, epibenthic and mesopsammic). Joint use of fatty acid and stable isotope trophic markers showed that co-occurring harpacticoid copepods have diversified diets.
